“Tired Hotel”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

Stayed for 10 days at the Mount View room 46, must be the worst room available, bathroom very small and poor layout, heating didn't work and shower was a pathetic dribble that either scalded or chilled. Door lock on the room had been poorly repaired and the main entrance to the hotel left open to the public at all hours day and night. Internet access only in the foyer area near reception.
Stayed in many hotels so know what to expect ... will not use again

Probably the first time that TripAdvisor lets me down: everybody else on here seems enthusiastic about the Mountview, but sorry: I wouldn't recommend it much.

- Maybe I'm a bit of a neat freak, but the level of cleanliness of my room was... let's say challenging: the carpet was stained all over and darkened by the dirt (walking barefoot was out of the question); the wall lamp had a layer of dust on it half an inch thick; the extractor fan in the bathroom too was completely clogged up with dust and so totally ineffective; the armchair had an unidentified black piece of something stuck between the seat and the back, worryingly similar to some sort of organic waste; the bathroom was passable, but with mould developing and the shower glass that remained covered in limescale for the duration of my stay; one day the 'clean' towels came in rolled up as usual, but with a knot of someone's hair inside.

- Staff: I've met more welcoming hosts in the past. Maybe they didn't like my face or the fact that I sometimes stammer, but I can't say that I felt all that welcome or well looked-after. It's small things, like serving you toasts at breakfast without asking first if you prefer white or brown bread, or keeping the replies to your enquiries as short and smile-free as possible, what gave me this impression (note: if there is a polite, respectful customer that never complains, that is me).

- Breakfast: on this one at least I agree with the majority: plenty of choice and well-prepared food.

I don't know... maybe I got the only room in the hotel that was filthy, but next time that I am in Jersey, I'll be happy to spend a few quid more and try some other place first.

We have just returned from a week at the Mountview, and my first impressions were proved wrong, it was a lovely stay, although we had car parking issues on our first night we soon learnt to get back to the hotel early enough to baggsy a space. (4x spaces but 6x cars can park)

the room (room 33 on 2nd floor) was spacious, clean but very dark.

breakfast was great, set you up for the day as other reviewers had full english, choice of cereals, juice, with tea and toast, the manager marie and Faria were brilliant very friendly, and Bailey the poodle was just awesome.

We ventured to the sister hotel across town, but glad we picked the Mountview Hotel despite not having a pool its much better.

Was only a 10 min walk to st aubins beach, and you're in town within 5 minutes, recommend.

We stayed during Jersey live so alot of noisey neighbours descended on us for the weekend, but management did all they could to keep them under control.

the hotel could do with modernising alot of potential there.

Room Tip: There is a lift, corridors are narrow and windy, floor 2 is perfect :)

If you buy a 15 year old S Type Jaguar for £800, you know that you're driving around in what was once a magnificent car worth over £40,000 with all the extra's and luxury that come with it. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite work the same way with this hotel. I imagine that once upon a time it was luxurious and grand, but now it is run down and tired.

The welcome is warm and the staff are nice and friendly. Our room was a reasonable size, with a clean carpet and nice wooden cabinets, though the dust around the skirtings and windows was quite thick. We had a nice veranda, looking out towards the bay which was a pleasant surprise. The bathroom is tiny, smells a little stale, has a rusty old "ladies bin", and a shower which dribbles and had run out of hot water by 9.30am - I don't like cold showers in any hotel, whether it's a two star or a five star.

Sleep quality here is dreadful. The walls are so thin that we could hear TV's from at least two other rooms along with their occupant's conversations. Everytime someone in the room above us moved, all the floorboards creaked and groaned - and when they flushed their toilet, it was like a tsunami was washing over the side of the hotel and through every room.

The saving graces? Breakfast was outstanding, it almost made up for the poor night's sleep, and the location is good. Only a 15 minute walk to The Mansell Collection in one direction, or the town centre in the other. There are good restaurants just five minutes walk away.

Just returned from a 5 day break staying at the Mountview. Hotel is clean and comfortable, staff exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was superb, choice of fruit, cooked breakfast and cereals, cooked breakfast, tea or coffee and toast all served with a smile. Lovely patio area for chilling out during the day, bar not staffed all the time but someone always around to open it up for drinks, very reasonable prices. Room serviced daily, tea, coffee and milk topped up. Would definately stay again, very good value for money. A little way out of town uphill but the taxis are only about £5-£6 per trip from the seafront.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor. If you are a smoker there are rooms on the first floor which had a d...
