“Overpriced, noisy and outdated shower and toilet systems”
Reviewed 28 August 2007

We stayed at the Revere for the bank hol weekend. Having paid £140per night we were expecting much more than what we actually got. Granted the downstairs of the hotel was quiant and the staff were helpful and friendly but once upstairs it was a different story! The room looked like something from the 70's. The room faced the side street and every night we were woken by drunken people walking down the street shouting, music playing from cars and then the lorries that arrived to unload to all the restaurants at 6.30am! Oh and plus the rubbish men too which we didnt expect on a bank holiday weekend. We`are a young couple and like to go out and have fun like everyone else but even by our standards this was noisy! Then when we got up and tried to use the shower it involved standing in the bath for 10 mins trying to get the right temperature. it seemed like the water was either scorching hot or freezing cold and it required a real knack to get right and flushing the toilet required 3 or 4 attempts as the systems are so out of date. it was very frustrating to say the least.

On a posituve note the Doran restaurant was fantastic food and friendly staff. Jersey is a lovely place to visit but there is no way i would return to this hotel again.

Although we did not actually stay at The Revere (but definately will next time we visit Jersey) we did eat at the Candlelight Restaurant on two evenings and found the food, wine and service to be absolutely excellent.
We were staying at another hotel and were disappointed with the food and service and ambience (see Pomme D'or review) so decided to try the Revere on the advice of another tourist. We were very pleased with the olde worlde faded charm of this quaint and historical hotel and the pleasant, helpful staff.
I can thoroughly recommend the Chateaubriand steak, which did take 40 minutes to cook (the waiter warned us of this prior to ordering) but was so delicious and well worth the wait. The wine choice was varied and good value and the setting romantic and charming. Next to the restaurant is a lounge bar with interesting little nooks and crannies where a very good live pianist played classical, jazz, swing and easy listening music and chatted away to the guests with friendly ease.
This hotel is probably not for someone who likes modern fixtures and large "chain style" hotels but if you want history, good food and quaint charm then the Revere will not disappoint.

My family & I have just returned from a week in St Helier, staying at the Revere Hotel. It is certainly charming and quaint inside, but suffers from a poor location. Its entrance is on a back street and it has no decent views. There is no car park, so you have to use the multi-storey one down the street & charges apply from 8am to 5pm. We had a family room on the ground floor with a small courtyard outside the window but unfortunately this was used as a smoking area by staff & guests. We found the beds very hard & some of the furniture in the room was quite worn, although we may have been given a poor room as we booked at a discounted rate through [--]. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful, and overall I think we got reasonable value for money.

I was looking for somewhere central and level to take my mother for a short break. The location was excellent and the restaurants in the hotel offered a good choice of fresh local food, as did all the restaurants we visited in Jersey. The staff were very friendly and helpful - the only negative point was that there was no lift, so a lot of steps to climb to your room. Overall a good choice.

Lovely old fashioned hotel with comfortable lobby/reception area and great reception staff. As we ascended to our room (No.44) however, it did get a little too old for my liking and in parts looked ready for some re-decoration. And so it was in our room which had a four poster bed that was so noisey I couldn't turn over without waking and a bathroom that needed a new bath panel and a lick of paint. The room itself however did have all the creature comforts you would expect - hair drier, trouser press,tea/coffee making facilities and I would not let my slight dissapointment deter anyone from visiting the Revere as I do confess to liking the more modern hotel. The food and wine in the hotel's restaraunts was exceptionally good, the staff excellent and a great relaxed feeling contributed to a great short holiday.
Good car parking facilities in the multi storey a few doors away and some good alternative eating houses including Italian and
Indian along the same road. Five minutes walk into town and about the same onto the prom.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Revere two weeks ago on a short break to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday. The Hotel Revere has great old world charm and is located in a side street just off the Esplanade in St Helier. The hotel is in an excellent central location for a walk on the beach along St Aubin's Bay, a walk into the city centre or a walk to the bus station connecting you to the rest of the island. We'd booked a double room with a four poster bed which was of good size (by European standards) with a neat clean bathroom. I'd told the front-office staff prior to our arrival about my wife's birthday and true to form they remembered and sent her a note and some chocolates on the day. All the staff we encountered were exceptionally polite and always willing to help or advise about places to see and suggestions for eating out. Breakfast in the Candlelight restaurant each morning was excellent. For one of our evening meals we chose to try the Harbour Room at the Pomme d'Or Hotel not far from the Hotel Revere which also served a great buffet dinner which we recommend. We also recommend the new Islander Explorer buses where you can hop on & drop off at will as a great way of seeing the island at your own pace (if you haven't rented a car). Also recommended is Plemont Beach which is off the beaten track but which has to be the island's most spectacular beach. All round we'd recommend a visit to Jersey and a stay at the Hotel Revere where the staff make your visit just that little bit more special.
