My friend and I have just spent an enjoyable week at the Royal .it was clean ,comfortable, with good food and friendly service. The only criticism We have was the time we waited between courses some evenings in the dining room. The staff were extremely helpful and went out if there way to help us when we changed rooms .If you need a comfortable ,clean, and friendly hotel go to the Royal

Our 12 night stay was very comfortable once we rejected the room we were originally offered (room 203 - small and dark with only a tiny window) and took an up-grade to a suite (225). It only overlooks the car park and the 1st floor terrace, but it gets the sun all day and has a lovely balcony with chairs. I should say at this point that this is a town hotel and none of the rooms has much of a view so I think we got the very best.
Without exception, the staff were very friendly, helpful and obliging. The room was kept very clean and well stocked with tea, coffee etc.
Breakfasts were excellent if you wanted full English but the continental choice was rather limited which, being popular with French and Germans, surprised us - maybe they prefer eggs & bacon when they're not at home!
The restaurant offers a very good choice for dinner, and everything we tried was beautifully cooked. I'm a bit of a gannet so I thought the portions could have been a bit bigger - my wife says they were fine.
The location was perfect for us - just a ten minute, gently sloping walk to the harbour, shops and museums (you MUST visit the Maritime Museum - it's brilliant) and far enough out of the busy town centre that driving the hire car wasn't a worry.

Room Tip: 225 (a suite) has neighbours to only one side so very quiet. Plus it has all day sun on its balcony.

We spent a week staying at the Best Western as we explored the island. The rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was awesome. There is a pub next door which is also handy. Our room had wifi but was a bit patchy at times. Our room opened onto the deck which was handy when our son needed to stretch his legs.

“Thank you for your kind review. We are delighted that you found our breakfast was ‘awesome’. Our team are always delighted that when we exceed expectations.

In respect of our free WiFi arrangements, we have now identified that two WiFi fixed wire cables serving this a part of the hotel were faulty, one with an intermittent break. This caused some service disruption to a part of the hotel. We have a professional system throughout the hotel with full reporting and work has been done to rectify and improve the service. Thank you.

We do occupy a large town centre site with substantial internal roof terrace area. We are pleased that this was a valued amenity for you.

Thank you for your feedback.”

We have just come back from a 4 night stay at the West Western Royal, following a Bank Holiday break.
The location of the hotel is about a 10min walk inland from the main shopping streets and although the hotel faces out onto a fairly busy road noise was not an issue.
From the moment we entered the hotel every member of staff were exceptional, courteous, and friendly. We arrived around 20:30 on the first day and were asked if we wanted to go straight to dinner as we had booked Half Board and dinner finished at 21:00. Not unexpectedly, we felt a little rushed but the food was fine and the friendliness of the waiters etc. set the tone for the weekend.
The hotel décor is fairly 'traditional' rather than modern, but again we did not have any issues with that and was kept clean and tidy.
The room (144) we had was quite a walk along several corridors with a few stairs/steps to negotiate which could be a problem for anyone with mobility problems, although I assume if requested a room nearer the dining/reception would be made available. The room itself was a suite which meant that we had a separate lounge area and a TV in both this and the bedroom. It made the overall room feel very spacious compared with a normal room. The room was quiet with no noise either from outside or adjacent rooms.
The hotel promotes the fact that free Wi-Fi is available in all bedrooms. Unfortunately for us this proved not to be the case. Having several devices such as phones and tablets it proved impossible to get a reliable connection from our room. There are a number of 'hotspots' to choose from both secure and Open (password provided for the secure connection) but when we tried to log onto the network there was either a very weak (unusable)signal or constant "trying to obtain an IP Address" message. For any techies reading this I was registering a signal of around -65db or worse, and time of day etc. did not make any difference. We did manage to connect when in the reception area so presume the problem was the remote location of our room. In today's world where keeping in contact through social media, email or just browsing the internet has become a priority, Wi-Fi Access can be a deal breaker so it is important that if the service is offered that it works.
Apparently the hotel has a mini Gym, but in our short stay we did not make use of this, and likewise I understand that guests have use of a nearby hotel which has a swimming pool etc, but again we did not use this.
We were fortunate to get a deal when booking which meant Half Board for around £20 for the full stay. This proved to be exceptional value. We had previously decided that because it was so cheap that we would eat in the hotel on the first night then probably go out into town for the other nights. Whether the food hits the formal criteria for 'Fine Dining' I am not sure, but it was certainly far above average compared with previous experiences in similar hotels. We ended up eating in the hotel every night and have no regrets about that at all. The remarkable value on the evening dining was offset slightly by the nightly £20 bottle of Marlborough (I do hate the restaurant rip off/mark up on wine prices) , but I guess that would have been the case wherever we ate. For anyone not on the Half Board tariff I believe the three course menu comes in at just under £24.00 which is still good value given the quality of the food.
Breakfast was also very good offering the normal fare, i.e. cereal, continental and full English. Worth mentioning though that things like the mushrooms, scrambled egg and bacon tasted a lot better than I have often had in other hotels. Only disappointment, was the ghastly half fat milk for the cereal, in a land renowned for its delicious full fat milk.
Throughout our stay we were served well, but special mentions go to Head Waiter Sorin, who was an all round great guy, to Ollie who was great fun getting into a conversation with, and the very special Maria who was an absolute delight.
The Hotel Bar is set out like a Pub and is called Bar 27. It has some good beers and a nice Pub atmosphere. On our last night we went in and found a guy playing live music (12 string acoustic and Electric guitar) who was excellent (if you like Eagles and that genre which I do).
This was our first trip to Jersey and so cannot compare the Best Western Royal with other Island hotels. What I can say is that we very much enjoyed our stay at the hotel, it's in a pretty reasonable location, very good value, the food was better than average and the friendliness of the staff means that we would certainly look very favourably returning to this hotel on any future trip to Jersey.

Room Tip: Rooms at the far end of the hotel likely to have poor Wi-Fi reception.

Booked this via Condor Ferries, 4 nights for the price of 3. Included the cost of our car, which was a great bonus.
The hotel is in easy walking distance of St. Hellier's shops & restaurants. We ate at the hotel on two of our four nights.
The hotel has a superb a la carte restaurant, and Bar meals @ 2 courses for £12.50 (Try the Mussels to start with Rib Eye steak as a main) My mouth is watering as I write this, from the memory of the meals we ate there. Staff were very helpful and courteous, free secure on site parking on a first come first served basis, about a dozen spaces. Found the WiFi in the room very temperamental, fine in the Bar & Lobby.
We had room 315, en-suite bath/shower, very comfortable bed, slight noise from the kitchen extract duct outside the bathroom. The breakfast is buffet style, with scrambled, on display and fried, poached, boiled etc prepared to your liking.
All in all a great place to stay. We will be using this hotel again.

Room Tip: Due to slight noise from kitchen extract avoid room 315

The hotel was great the only negative comment is if you have a problem walking ask for a room near the front and on the 1st floor. Our room was on the 2nd floor towards the back of the hotel and after using the lift was quiet a walk to it.
