“Georgian Gem in St Helier”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

Saved from decay in the last few years, perfect Georgian house, with friendly, knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Tour starts with 'cook' in the restored kitchen, telling interesting anecdotes and offering tasty foods whilst a joint roasts slowly on the spit, filling the house with aromas of wood smoke and roast! Information sheets for each of the 3 floors, also additional informative video in restored Victorian clubroom and further information/videos on top floor. Excellent shop with unusual gifts , many of the period. National Trust members get in free with reciprical arrangement with Jersey National Trust, but you're sure to want to make a donation anyway, to help with the upkeep of this and other special places in the Island!

“Flashback in time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

My 10 year old daughter says

I think the house was well restored and full of information. It was not big enough and finished too quickly. I would have liked to see more people in costume other than the cook. My fav was the kitchen as the cook was showing me how to use the kitchen and told me lots of information about that time period.

I would highly recommend this.

From dad's point of view there were loads of original features and artefacts and the staff were fantastic.

“Quaint”

Lovely little house and interesting history. When we visited the staff were in costume and had done some cooking of the time, which you get to sample. Not a long visit but worth a detour.

“Magnificent transformation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

You must view the video of the history of the house. The very neglected state and damage looked like it would be impossible to bring back to its former glory but it has been.
The house is true to the period with authentic wallpaper, paint colours and carpet.
Talk to the volunteers as their knowledge of the history is very good
