“Definitely not 5 star!”
Reviewed 26 January 2014 via mobile

We only stayed for one night as we were away for weekend and had to move from The Yacht due to noise and the Grand said they had a suite available at £250 for the night and they did advise that there was a wedding on but we would not hear anything. Staff were pleasant but not to the standard that you would get in 5 star hotels to which we stay a lot and the suite - room 100 was spacious but had a funny smell to it and was not very clean, hairs in the bathroom and in fact bathroom could do with updating as it still has shower curtains which are very unhygienic in my mind. Cocktail lounge was nice and lunch there was good but the breakfast in the morning was a buffet style, even had to make your own toast and this is not what you expect in 5 star hotels, it should be cooked fresh to your order. There was this option on the menu but no one came to take our order. All in all a moderate 4 star but not 5 star and definitely needs a bit of TLC to bring it up to scratch! Think I will stick to The Atlantic which is a 4 star but service is impeccable and standards very high!!

Used a quids inn voucher for a buffer Sunday lunch. Service was good food was disappointing. Starter was reasonable. Main course was below average - no green vegetables and the beef tasted poached rather than roasted. Puddings were okay. I would have preferred to have spent the money on a decent carvery at a pub.

My sister lives in Jersey so have Visited many times over the years, during this years Xmas visit we decided to try the Grand. Started well we arrived at 10am and reception let us check in early, originally booked park view room but when we went up to our room it appears we had been upgraded as we were in a sea view room which was lovely. The room was nice, bathroom very tired and old looking but the worst thing of all is the creaky floorboards everywhere, esp the room above us, we were woken up at 5.30am every morning when the guests above us sounded as though they were dancing around there room it was creaking so much - not the relaxing sleep we had hoped for. I imagine it was a Lovely hotel in its day but it seems very tired and not up to 5 star standard, we have travelled a lot and stayed in other 5 star properties, It just seemed to be lacking something, it also did not feel particularly Christmassy, and on Xmas morning breakfast was in a different room which had no music or atmosphere. The actual food was of a great standard though, lots of choice and fresh. Also parking was bit of a pain has a small car park which was often full

Dear guest,

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Grand Jersey. I am pleased that we were able to offer you an upgrade - this is a gesture we do like to offer our guests when we have availability. I take on board your point regarding the bathrooms - we are in fact refurbishing all of our sea-facing bathrooms in 2014. We have also just completed a redesign of our terrace, and refurbishment of our pool area is currently under-way. I am sure you can appreciate that due to the age and style of the building this can be extremely challenging.

I hope that you will decide to return to Grand Jersey in the future, and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Kind regards,

Eamonn

As a previous visitor to this fantastic hotel I can honestly say that their standards never drop they only get better. My husband had an accident three weeks before Christmas and has to wear a moon boot for six weeks, concerned that he could not use a shower over a bath I contacted the hotel and they immediately changed our allocated room to one with a walk in shower. We loved the fruit in our room and Jersey chocolate. We ate in the champagne lounge one evening and the food was superb. We were so looking forward to the New Years Eve dinner in the Victoria's restaurant and were not disappointed, it was a brilliant night with great food and as I did not have a dance partner the staff were only to willing to step in. One of the things I love about this hotel is that when ever you go through the reception area, either to go out or into a restaurant the staff on duty always say hello, smile and ask if they can help you in any way or just want to know if you are having a nice day. As designated driver this year I was only to pleased to let the concierge park the car, just drive up to the front door they park it and then when we wanted to go out it was there, brilliant idea. So looking forward to a return visit!

Room Tip: We have only ever had sea view rooms, they have all been excellent

This is our third consecutive stay at The Grand for New Year, and once again it lived up to all expectations. We stayed for a week bed and breakfast from Boxing Day and were greeted with a mince pie and a glass of mulled wine. The restaurant staff are exceptionally accommodating and attentive, without being intrusive. The rooms are clean and cosy, with a super comfortable bed. Despite the horrible weather the rooms were lovely and warm. The Spa is a relaxing haven, and provides the perfect environment for either a gentle swim or a powerful workout in the gym. I will certainly be booking again, as I cannot fault this hotel. The General Manager, Eamon made himself available and genuinely wanted his guests to have a pleasant stay. See you all next year!

Room Tip: Room 237 sea view, room 205 park view very spacious

I would just like to thank you on behalf of my family for the lovely stay at your hotel For our 30Th wedding Anniversary and my wife's 50th birthday. In spite of the stormy weather going on outside your staff made it a real pleasurable experience. The rooms were lovely and we did enjoy the bowl of fruit and hand made chocolates on arrival courtesy of the hotel in respect of our celebrations. Yes some say the rooms are a little dated, but the layout and super comfy beds more than make up for a swirly patterned carpet. The front of house staff as always are friendly and courteous and soon sorted out our little problem with New Year's Eve. We would like to make a special mention of Paul and Gabriel, two waiting staff who went above and beyond their duties to keep us happy and helping in finding a nice corner for us to sit 6 for breakfast and to decorate the area on two mornings of our stay. With both on hand at the New Year's Eve Gala dinner making our Anniversary go with a swing, and having a couple of dances with us, perfect thank you!!
So again a lovely stay thank you from us all.

Room Tip: We had rooms,215, 221 and 211 all sea facing and just lovely to sit and watch the stormy scenes goin...

We spent three nights here in December and it was fantastic. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is very attentive. We stayed in a Park view double room, which was spacious, clean and modern. The location of the hotel is perfect.
Breakfast is served as a buffet. It would have been nice if there were vegetarian sausages at the hot breakfast section and better quality bread. Other than that, it was a good selection.
During our stay we enjoyed a Jersey cream tea and on another day cocktails in the champagne bar, which has nice views over the sea. The fresh scones tasted delicious and the selection of cocktails is great.
I would also highly recommend a visit to Tassili. We had a seven course taster menu there and the food was excellent and the staff is wonderful. A tiny criticism would be that it lacked a little bit in atmosphere.
If you are looking for a place to stay in Jersey, this is the place to stay.
