We stayed at the Grand Jersey two weeks ago for our anniversary. We knew that we didn't have a sea view because there where none left when we booked and that we would be at the rear of the hotel. The room was small but very clean and totally acceptable. Checking in was great, the girls are very efficient. The boys at the front door are great and watching them park the cars into the tight spaces was very entertaining. The terrace bar at the front is a lovely place to have a drink before you go out but we thought that the christmas album that was background music one night was a bit strange when it was really hot weather. And we had a glass of champagne in the champagne bar. We ate in Victoria's one night and the food was lovely especially the chocolate and coconut mousse with pistachio ice cream. It was very good value. Breakfast was very good and the waiting staff couldn't have done more. It was a great three days away!

Room Tip: ook early and get a sea facing room. The view of Elizabeth Castle is lovely.

We booked an executive seaview room and the position overlooking the bay was excellent. We were warmly welcomed by name and efficiently checked in. The location, just near enough the town centre and overlooking the castle, was fabulous, the room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean, the breakfast was fresh and tasty with good variety, and the hotel buildings, though much refurbished, still have hints of their victorian origins and art deco adaptations. To make an excellent experience even more perfect, the staff could make more effort to get to know the guests, the standard coffee could be better (but good coffee is available on request at no extra charge) and the wifi and television signals need to be stronger, but still five stars. Looking forward to returning.

Room Tip: Definitely pay the little extra for a sea view. The back of the building has been severely hemmed in...

We have stayed in many different rated hotels over the years, this is far from a 5 star rated hotel, Our room although of a good standard had frosted glass windows, on opening the windows our view from the 5 inch gap was of the bins, air conditioning units, and the back of a very shabby looking hotel. I had written to the hotel explaining this was our Wedding Anniversary, so would appreciate a room with a nice view, We were told on check in this would happen if one became available. I checked over the week for availability and rooms where advertised as available, but we weren't offered one. We also had bad experiences with the bar staff, on two occasions functions were being held on the terrace, leaving only a couple of tables for hotel guests, the outside bar manager was so obnoxious, we decided to go elsewhere. On another evening we came back to the hotel at 9.30pm, to find the outside bar already closed, so we used the inside bar, unfortunately it had as much appeal as a wet fish on a sunny afternoon, no atmosphere warmth or charm. On our last evening I found two rings in the Ladies toilet, one a Tiffany & Co wedding band, I took them to reception and gave them to the receptionist, who never even asked for my name. Had they been mine, and handed in I would have at least expected to have been able to thank someone. Our Television didn't work and wasn't sorted out although it was reported on the second evening, and on our checkout the receptionist never even bothered to ask if we had enjoyed our stay.

Second time we've stayed here. First time was all-round good, second time was disappointing due to ill-mannered bar staff. One night there was a function so the bar area outside was crammed with people, not a problem so we stayed in the indoor bar. Hardly more than 10 people in there but took 15 minutes to get served. When we were finally served the barman told us he'd ran out of the beer I asked for, yet when we went outside it was the first beer I was offered. Lazy attitude was the opinion of one of the managers. Not a big problem but for the money you pay it's disappointing. On the day we left it got worse. I overheard a woman telling the bar manager her champagne tasted strange, so the bar manager replaced it as expected, but when I went to him to pay the bill, I said 'can I order one more drink and pay the bill please'. To which he responded 'that's the way it normally works, you order a drink and pay the bill.' I took his stinking attitude with a pinch of salt as I didn't have more time to complain as we were leaving. If I was the manger and read this, I'd make sure I did something to correct this unacceptable attitude towards paying customers. Jersey beautiful as ever, maybe Radisson Blu next time.

We knew that our rate was a good rate for a 5 star hotel but our view and smell of the bins was not what we expected. We told the reception staff and the only other room offered was one overlooking the air conditioning and kitchen extraction units. The room itself is pleasant and comfortable but nothing special. Disappointed.

This is supposed to be a five star hotel right? If it is, it is hanging onto its rating by the skin of its teeth. The impression I get is that it is trying very hard to be something it possibly was but no longer is. It is shabby, there is evidence of extensive damp where the flat roof extension adjoins the main building, and food and drink are expensive
It's comfortable and clean, but way overrated. We won't be coming back.

I spent 3 days at the The Grand with my children and arrived concerned by a few negative reviews I'd seen on here. We had a lovely time. The location is great -opposite Elizabeth Castle ands few minutes walk into the centre of St Helier. The terrace is beautiful to have drinks overlooking the sea and the good was good. It is quite expensive. We experienced half the terrace being closed for daily functions but could always sit on the other half. It would be very frustrating if you couldn't sit here as in the sun, as it is the only outside space. We had a Deluxe park view room which was beautiful although I was surprised and disappointed there was no bath. Beds extremely comfy though.
The concierge, especially Jose, were a huge help and recommended great restaurants and where to go and what to do. Breakfast was fine but I would agree with other reviews wasn't 5 star and service was only average. A few staff struggled with their English and got our orders wrong. The pool and spa is absolutely beautiful but underground and lot very darkly so on a hot sunny day you can't see daylight. It also felt a bit grown up to have children there (they loved it though)
The traffic around is loud but given it is in the centre of st helier, that didn't bother us at all. For a St Helier based hotel opposite the beach, we would absolutely go back. We had a lovely time.
