“great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

just had a 5 night break at the Royal Yacht and had a great time. The breakfast was excellent every day, no queuing for hot food, coffee & toast was served really quickly and the egg chef was really friendly. all the hotel staff we came across were really helpful. The hotel is very central in St. Helier and well located for bus station, shops, bars etc. Having read other reviews before arriving, I was a little worried about the noise problem and yes, it was rather noisy on Friday and Saturday night as our room was directly above the Zephyr bar but its a lively and happening place so you have to accept that. The spa facility was brilliant, very calming & relaxing. All in all - a top hotel. (St. Helier itself needs to raise its game though - was expecting more up-market shops!!)

Room Tip: the higher you go - the less noise you'll hear - or choose a back / side room

Excellent in every aspect - food, accom, service, facilities and location. Why choose anywhere else in Jersey. We throughly enjoyed their special wine tasting evening with a selection of dishes from the restaurant. Never realised Port tasted that good, a wonderfull evening that we will always remember. Thanks to Marco for educating us on Wines and especially Port.

Room Tip: If you can afford it upgrade to get a balcony. The extra space is worth it.

Just returned from a 5 night break at the Royal Yacht. Would highly recommend this hotel. We paid extra to upgrade to a gold double deluxe room - well worth the extra. We had a large room with all the facilities including plush robes. The balcony was large with rattan table and chairs and a sun lounger which we used regularly. The spa is lovely with a pool, steam room, sauna, relaxation room and even a foot spa. The hotel bars are all excellent although very busy. We didn't eat in any of the restaurants so can't comment on them. We would recommend Wildfire restaurant opposite hotel both for the steaks and Fajitas and Little Italy for Italian. Food in both was excellent.

Room Tip: Don't stay in basic silver room in old part of hotel, pay to upgrade to the gold double deluxe w...

Myself and my husband stayed here in October 2013. I am writing the review now as I have been in hospital. We booked a Silver Double room which was room number 425.The room was lovely and the facilities were good. The reason for our stay was a belated honeymoon. Jersey is a special place for myself and my husband.

We had both had gastroenteritis before travelling and were both still not 100%. We had been up since 4am on the Saturday morning to enable us to travel to the airport. Upon arrival at the Royal Yacht we checked in and I was a bit disappointed when we got to the room as the hotel knew it was our honeymoon and there was nothing special in the room.

We were not expecting anything major but maybe something romantic like rose petals on the bed. We got engaged in a hotel and were provided with chocolates, champagne and complimentary cocktails, married in a hotel and received champagne, a fruit platter and rose petals on the bed.

We went for a walk around St Helier and decided to have an early night due to being up so early and not feeling too good. We were in bed by 6pm but did not get to sleep until 4.30am. This was due to the extremely loud noise outside on the street. The room was also uncomfortably hot and we contacted reception before we went for a walk. We were told that they would sort the air conditioning out for us.

When we returned the room was no different and still uncomfortably hot. We opened the windows in the room but it did not make much of a difference. Our room overlooked the road and a burger bar and kebab shop plus a bar. The smell coming from the road was not too good and all we could smell was grease and kebabs.

One of the hotel bars was also situated below our room as well and the smell of cigarette smoke wafting up to our room was disgusting. The noise was also awful. The constant thud thud thud of loud music, motorcycles whizzing up and down the road, car horns, people screaming and shouting. The room also overlooked a cash point as well.

The level of the noise was that bad it felt like the people making it were in the room with us. I turned the TV up volume level 50 but it did nothing to drown out the noise and we were unable to hear the TV anyway. I personally feel that perhaps hotel management should spend a night in the room to see why people complain about the noise levels.

After being awake for 24 hours all I wanted to do was sleep. When we did eventually get to sleep it was only for 2 hours as we were woken up by the road sweeper driving up and down the road at 6.30am on a sunday morning !!!!!!

At the end of the corridor on the floor we were on was a seating area but we were not able to sit in it as the chairs were piled high with towels, disposable gloves were scattered over the table, bottles of water were all over the floor and there was a strange smell of bleach. The staff also played loud music as they cleaned the rooms. Our room was quite dusty on arrival and there were also several hairs in the bath.

The hotel could do with providing more information about where breakfast is served and what time it is served.

As a surprise my husband had upgraded our room to the penthouse suite foe the last 2 night of our stay. I didnt agree with the policy of having to check out of our room at 12.00 and not being able to check into the penthouse until 2pm. That left us with no room for 2 hours which is not on as we had payed for a 4 day stay.

When we got into the Penthouse Suite which was called Mooncatcher, we ordered room service. My husband ordered strawberries and cream but he was told that the strawberries didnt look very good so they were unable to carry out the order.

On sunday night I went to make a coffee but all the milk in the room was off and i had to throw it all away. The following day i was going to buy some from the shop but did not see why I should as the milk would be replaced that day and it would be fresh. When i got back to the room on Monday I gain went to make a coffee and yet again all the milk was off.

Attention to detail would make this hotel fantastic. We were provided with nothing in the penthouse suite for our honeymoon either. The Penthouse had a large outdoor area with sun-loungers and 6 chairs, a large swivel chair and a hot tub.

If you get in the hot tub you can be seen by people on the roof top terrace of the hotel, this also applies if you are sat in the living room area with the curtains open. You can view the harbour from the penthouse and there was no noise at all unlike our first nights stay.

In the living area there is a large sofa, coffee table, table and chairs, tv, fridge, mini bar, docking station and coffee machine.

In the bedroom there is a 4 poster bed and tv but make sure that the curtains are closed when leaving the bathroom as you can be seen.
In the bathroom there were 2 sinks, large shower, bath, Tv, separate toilet.

The staff at the hotel provide excellent service and can not be faulted.

Breakfast provides an excellent choice. There are cereals, breakfast bars, actimels, fruit, yoghurts, pastries, cheese and meats, fresh juices. Coffee/tea is bought to your table along with toast. There is a good selection of jams and marmalade's on your table as well. Full English consists of sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, bacon, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, plumed tomatoes, baked beans, scrambled eggs and the chef will cook your eggs however you want them. Fresh salmon is also available.

The youghurt selection on our 2nd day was not as good as the 1st day. Also in the penthouse the livingroom carpets are not flat and there are ridges in them. There was also only one remote control for the televisions in the living room and the bedroom, so it was a bit of a pain when watching different programmes.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for my husband's birthday in March and were extremely impressed. As our flight was delayed, we didn't arrive at the hotel until 9pm. We were concerned about being able to have dinner but the staff had very considerately already booked us into the main restaurant for the dinner which was part of our package. This helpful attitude was maintained throughout our stay.
Everything about the hotel exceeded expectations, the meal and breakfasts were very good, the Gold level room (in the original part of the hotel)was very nice and had its own balcony and the spa facilities were surprisingly comprehensive for a small complex; almost as good as the facilities experienced on a previous spa break.
The hotel is conveniently located close to the main town but this has the disadvantage that the hotel does not have its own car park. Airport car rental staff had provided full information about the necessary public car parking but it would have been helpful if this had been covered on the hotel website. However, this would be my only negative comment!
Many thanks for a very pleasant stay.

Great stay at the royal yacht!
Fantastic location, really impressed with the staff, the room and the spa facilities. Only criticism is the jacuzzi could have been quiet a bit hotter- everything else outstanding!
Would recommend for business or pleasure.

The hotel is in an excellent location in St Helier, close to the waterfront and the main shopping area. The bus station is also close by, from where you can catch a bus to most parts of Jersey and is very easy to use, with many tourist attractions along the bus routes. If you prefer to hire a car and drive yourself, this may not be the best hotel as there is no car park and parking in St Helier does not seem that cheap or easy.

The hotel is very modern, although the original hotel remains to the side, the bulk is a modern addition and has clearly had a significant amount of money spent on it, with a variety eating options, bars, spa, function rooms, etc. We stayed in a Premium Deluxe room, which was completed to a high specification, with balcony overlooking the harbour, equipped with a table and two chairs, with cushions and single sun bed, the balcony was at the front of the hotel and although initially we felt rather exposed to passersby, we did actually use it more than anticipated, sheltered both from the rain and wind we encountered during our stay!

The hotel has an amazing spa facility with a good sized pool, steam rooms, sauna and even a relaxation room with heated beds. It was slightly annoying that during our three day stay there was no availability for any of the treatments, apart from our morning of departure, which I guess we should have booked before arriving, but we did not want to commit to something until we knew how our time was working, so unfortunately I cannot comment on those. The hotel also request that you change in your room and come down in the bathrobe and slippers provided due to limited space in the spa changing rooms. This we and other guest dutifully did, all looking rather embarrassed, although after a while we got use to it. However on all three occasions I used the spa, I never saw anyone in the changing room, which was of a reasonable size and specification, but can only assume it does at peak times cause a problem, hence the request.

All the staff we encountered were very friendly and the general level of service was very good. The restaurant where breakfast was served was busy each morning, but the supply of food for the breakfast buffet was well stocked and of good quality.

There are a variety of options for eating and drinking, but none tempted us and we chose to eat out, so cannot comment on those. There is also a nightclub on the ground floor, and although the immediate area around the hotel did seem to attract some of the younger residents, the club never seemed busy and there was no issue with noise, that you might expect.

Couple of points of criticism. Despite the very high end finish of the hotel, the bed was very disappointing, the mattress was extremely soft, not very comfortable and the slightest movement created a ripple across the bed, which we found made for a difficult nights sleep. This was combined with a common fault of many hotel rooms, the aircon only going down to 18C. We prefer cooler, so the only option was to open the door to the patio, but the hotel has a large outdoor seating area on the ground floor for one of its restaurants, which combined with neighbouring cafes / bars outdoor seating, created significant noise levels until the early hours, which at times could be heard even with the doors shut and aircon on, but not to a level which was problematic. However trying to sleep with the doors open was simply not an option, so the room was warmer than we would have liked.

Overall, if you have decided you want to stay in central St Helier, I would recommend this hotel, the pros definitely outweigh the cons.
