“Good for 1 night”

A good 1 night trip to Jersey was made comfortable by the Metropole. Situated relatively centrally, within walking distance of most of central St. Hellier. The hotel was clean and tidy, the beds rock hard??? Not sure why.
The staff really helpful giving tips about travel, eating out and local events.
Breakfast was good there was a slight delay with the food, but nice all the same.

We went to a birthday party here a few weeks ago and decided to take advantage of the overnight stay rate for functions - it was excellent - great night had by all - the room was very spacious and the breakfast was lovely - would definitely do this again

We flew to Jersey by BA and the experience was good. We arrived at the hotel at about 09.15 and left our bags in a safe area because our room was not yet ready. Fair enough we were very early. The hotel gave us a voucher to obtain a complimentary coffee in their coffee bar which opened at 10.00. When we got to the coffee bar at 10 we were told that reception had left a message to say our room was now ready for us. That is really good service in my book.

The room was large clean and well decorated with ample cupboard and wardrobe space. There was a bath as well as a shower. The beds were comfortable.

We had only booked bed and breakfast but we ate in the hotel restaurant every evening. We were offered a four course meal (starter, soup, main and desert) plus coffee all for £16.50 each. Good value and quality food. The waiter, Fernando, was very busy but attentive and generous with the portions.

The ladies on reception were courteous, friendly and helpful. When we left they ordered a taxi for us. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Wifi and computers free and available near to reception.

The hotel is ideally situated for the beach and is also very near the main shopping area. It is set in a quiet area. The grounds are well cared for and full of flowers.

We had a great time there. Thanks Metropole.

A well located hotel, easy to walk to both St Helier centre and the beach and a great location for a morning seafront run. Part of the (perhaps ironically named) Modern Hotels group, the hotel is very clean and tidy, but has very dated decor and facilities. Some staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, most notably the lovely porter, waiter and cleaners - others sadly not so. The indoor pool is great with small children as it's only 4' deep. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but there are some things worth considering before you decide to stay here.

The general population is either retired or families with young children - we are the latter. At your peril, allow your well behaved children to approach the breakfast buffet table by themselves - after standing in the orderly queue for several minutes, they will be tutted at by the attendant for trying to reach over the juice to reach the pain au chocolat - this would be easily fixed by not standing it above the juice (the child in question wasn't mine by the way)! This is fairly typical of the somewhat over complicated nature of this hotel - why have breakfast on several low level tables when you can stack it all up so nobody can reach?! There is also a peculiar seating plan for breakfast, where you are allocated a table for the duration of your stay.

If you want internet access - good luck. There is free WiFi but only in the main hotel and not the rooms, and I often found I couldn't keep the connection to download my emails.

There is insufficient parking for the number of rooms and this leads to double parking, and bumps and scratches - our car was badly damaged and whoever did it didn't own up. The hotel has no cameras in the car park - damage waivers are essential!

The family room we had was quite noisy - if you are easily disturbed at night, this would wake you up. Not a problem for us, but definitely would be if we were used to peaceful nights! If you can work out what the buzzing sound is at 11pm please let us know. Also the double bed had sheets and blankets instead of a duvet - really horrible.

On balance a nice place to stay, but a bit odd!

I have stayed at this hotel on a couple of occasions and it is the perfect base for visiting the island: on the doorstep of the beach; near to town; there is a Costcutter and late-night chemist at the end of the street; restaurants are a stone's throwaway; you can book trips with travel companies that pick you up from the hotel. Yes, some of the amenities could do with updating, but they just add to its charm. The staff are brilliant; patient, helpful and accommodating. I have stayed at its sister hotel, The Mayfair and both are similar, but the Metropole has better pools! You can stump up more money to stay at grander hotels, but you are there to see and experience Jersey, not the 4 walls of a hotel room, so this hotel is very suffice.

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs: ground floor; if you want a good view: pool-side view.

Have recently returned home after a stay of four nights. We are family of four - 2 children aged 7 and 4. We chose this hotel for its proximity to town centre and the beach. Our basic requirements were for comfortable beds, clean room and decent breakfast. The hotel surpassed all our expectations. The room was extremely roomy, the kids loved their single beds (they went to sleep instantly!), the staff were all courteous and friendly - especially, Fernando our waiter (who the kids loved!). Breakfast time can get busy at times but, with a bit of patience, we always got plenty to eat. The town centre is a short walk away and the Bus Station in St.Helier provides excellent links to all corners of the island. The beach is a 5-minute walk from the hotel in opposite direction. We also made good use of the indoor swimming pool (for the kids) and the Jacuzzi and Steam Room (for the wife and I). We would heartily recommend this hotel to any similar families looking to travel to Jersey, and we would seriously consider going back there again next year. We asked our kids to help with this review and our 7-year old daughter had one word - "Brilliant"!

Booked in to stay over the busy August half term. Very pleased with the room. It is very clean with a big bathroom. The bed is slightly small but adequate. The breakfast unfortunately was a let down. The cereal table was a mess and not refilled so we opted straight for the 'hot' breakfast. The only thing was, it wasn't hot! The eggs and hash browns were cold and the beans were only slightly warm. Very disappointed.
