My wife and I just returned from 5 night stay at the Monterey. Staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. Though the room was fine and beds comfortable the stay was spoilt by the fact that the room was too hot. There is no air conditioning or ceiling fan and the slide up window only opened 20 cm. Heat in building and room trapped and temperature did not drop below 24 degrees at night - up to 28 in day. Did not have dinner, buffet breakfasts were good but a sandwich lunch in bar on arrival was poor and tasteless. Buses into town centre practically non-existent in morning and evening when most tourists would want to use one. This not fault of hotel but it's a 20 minute walk to the bus station and many restaurants.

Room Tip: Avoid room that has sun beating in all day.

Visited with my mother, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From check in until departure the staff were wonderful, friendly, helpful always with a smile. Staff in dinning room were exceptional, attentive but not interfering. Witnessed on several occasions that they went the extra mile for guests that needed that little extra help. Food on half board rate had a good varied menu and was good valueTwin room spacious, clean, beds comfortable. Only complaint was that our room was over some sort of machinery that gave a humming noise , there was no air conditioning so having an open window was noisy at night. Would I go back ...Yes

Room Tip: Sleep only marked down due to lack of air con, and noise if window was open. check out that room is not on main road as it canbe busy

what made our stay at the hotel was the service from the staff nothing was too much trouble for them the breakfast and dinner staff were like a well oiled machine friendly attentive helpful with the deal we had it was worth every penny the only comment I would make is the set menu repeated after 1 week but so do other hotels the reception helped with any questions and advice the rooms were cleaned every day mostly while we were at breakfast.the only down side for us the car parking spaces were a bit on the small side but again it appeared to be normal for the island hotels. The only fault was please supply a secure place to leave bicycles.keep up the good work We will visit the monterey again many thanks.
for st helier put signs up for the port further out of the centre please as your one way system is a nightmare for visitors.and please cut the vegetation around the cycle way signs as a lot of them are hard to find on some of the back roads, its a good job we can read a map

Just returned from staying in the Monterey. The staff were friendly and helpful the rooms clean and beds comfy.
We booked our first evenings meal there as it was Sunday and Jersey is 'closed ' on Sundays ! The menu looked good and we had the cod loin wrapped in ham, it was ruined. It must have been cooked at lunch time and kept in the warming tray for hours, the veg choice didn't go with the meal and the service was dire. We didn't chance a meal there again but did ask for a sandwich, bacon and brie lovely filling but stuck between two slices of the thinnest cheapest sliced bread you would find in Asda, yuk!
However, the breakfast selection was very good though the service was painfully slow as you helped yourself to the hot and cold buffet no problem, but if you wanted a cup of tea or coffee and toast you were likely to have finished your Cereal, fruit juice and full English before it arrived.
It's a shame because with a decent restaurant manager and better staff training it could have been so much better.

Thoroughly enjoyed a short stay at this hotel. The staff were all lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The food, both breakfast and evening meal were well above a three star rating. My basic double was very spacious and airy and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom had a super power shower and bath. Ample parking and only a ten minute stroll into town. The pools (inside and out) were clean and well maintained. Fabulous place and I would not be surprised if it rises to 4 star very soon!

Room Tip: Room 421 overlooks the pool and is a quiet room. Room 200 has a dual aspect and overlooks the front of the hotel.
