Just a bit more entertainment is needed .A big thanks to all the staff

Room Tip: a ppol side room would be best Our room overlooked the road as was noisey

Just been back for our fifth consecutive year! We feel like part of the Monterey family and are always made to feel welcome. The hotel is spotless, and staff are always willing to help, nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast is a big hit with our family and the facilities are perfect for a family getaway.

Thank you Monterey for another cracking holiday, see you again next year!

The Monterey is a typical Jersey hotel; supposedly a tax haven and island full of wealth Jersey is short on swanky glass covered hotels. Step forward the Monterey, three stars and elements still stuck in the 1980's this hotel blends in with the architechture while managing to be modern in parts and throws in good service from the efficient staff.
A ten minute walk from the town centre if you cut through the millenium park the location is good and quiet; there is sufficint and free parking for that Jersey essential - the rental car - a must for this island. Check in was swift and polite, a non fussy explanation of the facilities and mealtimes and you are done. The room was clean and well made up for a three star; tea and coffee facilities available to.
The outdoor pool is not heated so a little chilly, the indoor pool is adequate for families; there is also steam room and jacuzzi. The gym is below par to be frank, so often in hotels of this type they buy some ex-gym equipment ready for the knackers yard and shove it in a corner so they can advertise a gym; The Monterey is no different here.
Breakfast are reasonable with a fair selection of cerals, pastry and cooked full english; one suggestion for the hotel would be to use a larger container for the fruit juices - forever running out, the staff are constanty topping up while you wait - a small point but occured on each of the four mornings we were there.
The decor could do with a refresh; rooms are clean and functional but some of the corridors, carpets and window frames belong to another era.

I read somewhere tourism in Jersey is falling by 6% per year for the past few years; I am not surprised. Jersey has clearly gone for the big money inticing banks and lawyers into town; unless the weather is fantastic there is little to do and St Helier itself does not feel like a holiday place anymore. Most of the attractions pinpointed on the guide maps are no more than shops, Jersey Pearl and Catherine Best are typical of this warranting no more than half an hour of time. The War Tunnels are better but have also changed; gone are the numerous manequin displays set out in the rooms with sound effects, now it's a rather long walk through a tunnel. There are many boards to read and pictures to see but the wow factor is gone. It was like being given a book in a history lesson and being told to read and learn for a test; the old tunnels were a practical chemistry lesson with bangs, smells and colour all explained by a whacky teacher in white coat - so much better.

St Aubin and Gorey are better for a meal out in the evening than St Helier which is full of pubs but no class for food; if the sun is out your days are filled on the many great beaches which are practically empty most of the time. Jersey must try harder otherwise it will be relegated to the grey hair coach tour brigade, nothing wrong with that but you won't see anyone else for a holiday anytime soon.

Room Tip: Overlook the pool for a better outlook but if you want a lie in and families are wround it can be no...

Thank you for your kind comments on our Monterey Hotel. These are appreciated.

We are an AA three Star hotel with on-site parking situated close to the new St. Helier Millennium Town Park.

Our indoor pool is professionally serviced as is our gym equipment which was purchased new and is maintained by a local supplier and has been serviced in recent weeks.

We believe that Jersey is an authentic destination to visit where tourism remains important. St Helier has a number of Michelin starred and also more affordable restaurants and we are happy to recommend such restaurants within walking distance of the hotel if this is required. Our sister hotel, the BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, is within close walking distance of the Monterey and also has an AA Rosette restaurant which we are happy to recommend and book for you from our own reception.

Thank you once again for your views and feedback. Your custom is appreciated.

Stayed here for two nights and was very impressed! Better than some 4 * hotels! Great location, rooms comfortable and well equipped! Really nice buffet breakfast with helpful staff! No air con and slightly old fashioned BUT a very impressive hotel! Good stay for anyone! Am fussy but this impressed me :)

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in July 2014. The receptionist welcomed us and gave us relevant information complete with a welcome pack. We were also invited to welcome drinks with the Manageress later in the day which was a nice touch. The standard room was of a very good size and was spotless and It was cleaned daily. The hair dryer was the kind that had to be continually pressed to work, but I saw a normal dryer being taken to a room for a guest so think you could ask for one if required. There wasn't a room safe, but we took our valuables to reception each day. We asked asked for an iron/board for the next day and it was sent up. Breakfast was excellent - a choice of juices, fresh fruit, diced fruit, croissants, Danish pastries, full English breakfast, tea and coffee. There was also a menu with kippers, porridge etc. the restaurant meals were good, although the menu did not change too much. There was also a bar menu with scampi, fries, sandwiches etc. the sandwiches were enjoyable and well presented. I noticed that other reviewers complained about the pool not being cleared of leaves etc, but I saw the staff doing that job on a daily basis. We swam in both pools, the outside pool being the larger. We didn't use the spar facilities. The changing rooms had 2 showers in each, lockers, toilet and a hair dryer all in good and clean order. The bus terminal is in the town centre (approx 20 minutes walk away) or you can catch a bus outside the hotel to it (and to other destinations). We went on a coastal tour with the Red bus and took a map with us so we could mark the areas where we would like to go and spend more time in, then got a two-day bus pass. This turned out to be a good idea for us. On the coastal tour we went to Jersey Pearl and stayed for a little while, but on our return visit, we walked over the road to visit an underground bunker which was interesting for us. If you go to Le Moulin De Lecq restaurant, St Ouen, opposite the Romany Cafe, they offer lovely food and a warm welcome with clean toilets. Also, the Dolphin Restaurant in Gorey offers a lovely seafood menu. Both are very reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Although our standard room was of a very good size and standard, other guests preferred a superior r...

We spent 8 days at this hotel on the28 June. The hotel, staff & food were fantastic. The staff could not do enough for us. I would recommend any body going to Jersey to think about this hotel. Also the bus stop is outside of the hotel.
