“Good value for money - with a few reservations”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2011

Having just spent five nights at this hotel I agree wth various points made by previous reviews. We had room 4 and the floorboards of the room above do creak a lot especially if the resident has to make frequent visits to the toilet during the night. Also, deliveries start at about 6.30 am and the noise is disturbing if you are not a deep sleeper. However, the room is adequate; the bathroom is very clean, the shower works well and generally the hotel is neatly kept. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the manager Fernando keeps everything and everyone under control. We were on a dinner/bed and breakfast package and I would say that on the whole the food was of a reasonable quality. The restaurant staff are mostly Eastern Europeans and inexperienced but again were helpful and tried to do their best. On the whole, for a two star hotel and the price we paid for our holiday, my husband and I felt we had good value for money.

We are pleased that you found the hotel to be very good overall and good value for money.

Our 101 bedroom hotel is situated on a large site and bedroom locations do differ considerably, as with any larger hotel. Quieter bedrooms may be easily requested when booking, if this is a consideration.

Early morning deliveries are not allowed adjacent to the bedroom area that you mention and as a result of your comment our milk and bakery supplier has again been contacted and advised to use a more remote early delivery entrance which is further from guest accommodation. This arrangement was already in place but our request was not being complied with by the external supplier. Thank you for your comment as this is helpful to us and the matter is resolved.

Our staff, including restaurant team, are from a range of countries throughout Europe including the UK. The hotel has a Bronze Investor in People Award and we do value our staff very highly at the hotel.

We are delighted to inform guests that the AA has, in the past week, awarded the hotel a 3 Star grading following an unannounced overnight stay. The AA commented specifically on the high level of service delivery within our restaurant and the hotel generally. We do, of course, note your own comments made, which will be fully discussed with the team at the hotel.

Thank you once again reviewing the Norfolk Lodge as all comments made are given our full attention.

Well pleased with our stay; rooms well presented, very clean and loads of hot water. Meals made the holiday; breakfast as expected, evening meals great, beautifully cooked and served by friendly and efficient staff, deserves more than two stars on meals alone. There was no overcharging at the bar, which oftern happens in hotels, prices were as most pubs.
At least 15 minutes walk to town centre, marinas and bus terminus but if that is OK for you then easy to get around Jersey on a "tourist friendly" bus service, go anywhere for a fixed price of £1.70, marvellous.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were exceptionally friendly. The rooms were very clean. The food was good value for money, especially the breakfast. We plan to stay at the Norfolk Lodge Hotel again. We booked half-board this time, but next time we will probably book B&B, because after the first night we discovered that the bar menu was very extensive. Not to say we wouldn't eat in the restaurant again, we would probably alternate the bar meals and the restaurant meals.
St Helier is a great base, and this hotel is on the 'posher side' of town, not far from the Police HQ, the General Hospital, and the Ambulance HQ. Walking distant to the main shops and Liberation Square about 10 minutes.

I'd selected this hotel based on the reviews here. We were going to travel independently as foot passengers with Condor but then saw that they had their own holiday website which included this hotel. This made quite a saving and included taking the car. Total cost was £394 for the two of us for four nights B&B which I thought was excellent value, esp. as it was the week before Easter.
The hotel only has 2 stars under the AA scheme but I think that really understates the place. Staff were excellent from the moment we checked in with the very helpful Beatrice. Fernando appears to be the general manager and he was superb at making sure everything was as it should be. Plenty of staff at breakfast which ensured you didn't have to wait long for coffee.
Breakfast was very good, wide selection of bacon, eggs, sausages etc, as well as cereals, toast, croissants etc.
Our room was large with a really powerful shower (this may have been one of the updated rooms).
There is a medium sized swimming pool which looked quite new, it was nicely furnished.
There is a large carpark which was a huge benefit as most street parking in St Helier is by pay cards.
I'd certainly recomend this place.

Spent a long weekend at this hotel.
Did not eat there at night so cannot comment on evening meals but everyting else was fantastic.
Great location with car parking, breakfast buffet fantastic.
Staff and bar also good.
Would go back.

My brother and I have not long returned home from another wonderful holiday at the Norfolk Lodge Hotel in Jersey and I thought I would share our experience here for others to benefit. I have travelled to Jersey on holiday countless times in the last 25 years and stayed in many hotels; but we only discovered the Norfolk Lodge Hotel in 2007; when we stayed for 4 days. The experience was so good that first time; that we returned again in 2008 and 2009 for a week and this year for 12 days. And we are intending to return again next year; probably twice. The hotel is offically rated as a 2 star; but the exemplary standard of service, impeccable housekeeping and cleanliness and the excellent quality and variety of food on offer; would put many 4 star-rated hotels to shame. My brother and I are very fastidious by nature and have a philosophy of never staying anywhere unless the standards are the same or better than one would have in our own houses. Can I just say here that right from the very first time in 2007; we have never once encountered dust in this establishment. The place is scrupulously clean and I'm confident in saying that you could eat your dinner off of the floor!! We are very particular about what and where we eat; and we have absolutely no concerns about this place! The head chef is very much hands-on and the food is carved and served in full view of the diners; so NO nasties here! We had 12 delicious breakfasts and 12 outstanding 3 course dinners; and the portions are plentiful. The hotel is truly run like a swiss watch by General Manager Mr De Castro and his assistant Beatrice; and nothing is too much trouble for them. I cannot praise them and their very hard-working staff enough and I would ( and I have!) thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Jersey. You won't be disappointed!!

I assume that, as with other town hotels, this hotel suffers from traffic noise, being located on a busy roundabout. This is a pity as in all other respects this hotel is very good. The staff of the hotel - especially the Hotel Manager and his Deputy - go all out to meet their guests' needs. The evening entertainment is a tad old-fashioned, but seems to cater to its audience. If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel within walking distance of the town centre, where you will find a very helpful and friendly staff, the Norfolk Lodge will not be found wanting.
