“First time at the Mayfair, best stay in Jersey yet.”
Reviewed 22 October 2011

I've been to Jersey twice before and greatly impressed with all the hotels I've stayed in but chose the Mayfair this time as it is closer to the town centre yet offers great facilities. Room was ready when we arrived at 11.30 and reception team very friendly. Everything in the hotel is very clean and well organised. You can book trips with the reception staff. Rooms were quiet even though the hotel is on a fairly busy road. The health suite is open from early in the morning to late evening if you want a swim or steam and there is also a gym, all free to guests. There is also a sun patio for basking.Breakfast is a pleasant relaxed meal with plenty of choices and there is a half board option if you wish it. There is also an excellent room service menu at reasonable prices, hot food till 8pm, cold food available 24hrs. There was live entertainment every night of our stay, some of excellent standard. There is also the cocktail bar for relaxing and maybe watching TV if you don't want to listen to the band. This hotel has lots of special offers at different times of the year and themed breaks, all at very good value for money. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel. It is at least comparable standard to other 3star hotels in the area but has the added attraction of being within 5 minutes walk of the indoor market and main shopping streets. 10-15 minutes walk to the seafront.

We were taking last minute break coach holiday & thought the Mayfair Hotel was excellent value for 3 star. Our room was clean, comfortable beds, bathroom small but very up to date fittings. All meals were good, with excellent service. We found staff were polite & extremely helpful. The lounge area was spacious, we didn't have time to use pool or gym, but looked very good facility. The hotel is ideally placed as it is a short walk from St.Helier with good connections to all Jersey' attractions.

On our arrival we were greeted by the warm and friendly smile from Monika, who was absolutely brilliant, closely followed by Caroline. In fact all the reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Our room, on the third floor, was a good size and spotless. Our only criticism was the temperature of the room. This was a freak 10 days in September and the room was very hot. Some nights the street noise would not allow us to open the window. The 'en-suite' was faultless and spotless. very good!
My wife and I are used to dining out in good restaurants. This is were the hotel fell down. We used the hotel restaurant on our first night. We sampled the 5 course meal, good value if you're not used to top quality food. The Jersey potatoes were out of a tin and the soup out of a packet! My wife ordered lamb and ended up with pork, which apparently was very nice.
The breakfast was very good, apart from, they didn't seem to understand when told that the tinned grapefruit had gone off!
There are stacks of good restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. We would recommend
'Ima's Caribean Cafe' - near the market. and the 'Latin Taste'- in Bath Street. food with a difference!!
The pool and gym were very good, both were used. The outside 'sun' bathing area was good and again was well used.
The coffee bar lacked atmosphere and, to my taste, the coffee was weak and so was the service in this area. Most of the staff in this hotel are from Eastern Europe, hence there is a morose attitude from certain members! But that's Eastern Europe, nothing to do with the hotel.
St Helier itself is brilliant! People rave about the war tunnels. Very good, but too many
tunnels. We took a trip over to Sark. Interesting and different. Take a ride with a horse and cart. It's worth it.
My best tip! Leave your car at home!! Parking is difficult, (The Mayfair has it's own adequate
car park). The buses and fun-train on the promenade are your best option. Also a coach trip around the island which can be very interesting depending on the driver.

Room Tip: Plenty of lifts, so choose a higher floor to avoid street noise.

I would have given this hotel an excellent rating except for the comfort level in the bedroom. The hotel is squeaky clean from top to bottom, the meals are excellent - as is the waiter service. The waiters are courteous, well trained and efficient. Breakfast is either a buffet continental style (croissants, ham, cheese, fruit etc) or English style (cereals, full English, kippers, porridge, scrambled egg on toast etc). I guess if you wish you could have both!! The evening meal is 5 course with at least 4 choices of main course. Reception staff are very helpful - from booking in, to which bus?, or how do I get there?, to storing your suitcase securely while you wait for the coach back home. The bedrooms are clean, spacious and comfortable BUT, and this is a BIG BUT, the bedrooms on the 4th floor can get very, very hot. The hotel has a flat roof, so any sunshine immediately heats the rooms. Also heat coming upwards from the floors below reaches your bedroom EVERY day - despite the temperature outside. We stayed the first week of October - cool outside but very warm in the bedroom, even with the window left fully open every day and night. Quite a number of people complain to reception or ask for fans, so the hotel management are fully aware of what I consider is a design fault in the hotel. It makes sleeping difficult for the first 2 or 3 days until the body acclimatises.
As far as amenities: entertainment every evening was good except for a 'magician' who performed kids party magic, whilst telling adult jokes. I walked out after the 3rd 'trick'. The health suite is good with top notch exercise equipment. I didn't use the pool so I can't rate it. There is a rooftop area where you can sit outside, sheltered from any breeze. The hotel is just a few minutes walk away from a good range of shops (including BHS, Boots, Waterstones etc), the bus station and the waterfront. Bus fare is just £1.70 each way to the main Jersey attractions and the buses run very much on time. Tip: Try the Petit Train (£7.50 return) which follows the promenade to St Aubin, giving you a wealth of information about the area during the 30 minute each way trip.

Room Tip: If you are offered a 4th floor room, reject it. The rooms are very hot even on a cold day.

It is a lovely clean hotel, reception staff were very friendly. However, it clearly is a great attraction to the older traveller, who hanker over 'Bingo'. I was in a suite, it was superbly clean, but very, very basic. They could do with some 'Do not disturb' signs for the door, lest the chamber maid walks in whenever. Restaurant staff lack personality and professionalism, clearly are not happy in their work. They ask you if you want a morning paper, but it's left at the reception desk and they insist you pay for it there and then, prior to handing it over to you, apparently they can't possibly put it on your room account. I wouldn't recommend to young people, young being anyone under 60.

Lovely clean hotel. Nice reception area with free internet access. Location not too pretty but very close to town centre. Brilliant hospitality tray - no biscuits but Cadbury's hot chocolate every day! We opted for the 4 meals for £50.00 offer which provided a five course dinner served by a very efficient, friendly waiter. The coffee shop served nice, reasonably priced snacks. The pool was a little on the small side. Unfortunately, the walls were rather thin and we could hear things we would have preferred not to hear! But for a three star hotel it is very, very good.

The Mayfair hotel is a lovely clean, and i mean clean hotel. You could almost see your reflection in the tiles at the reception. good helpful friendly reception staff, free internet access & excellent waiting staff at the restaurant and a good choice of food and very good it is as well. Good indoor pool, gym and a nice coffee snack bar, even a small sun terrace. Everyone there very professional and friendly. 10 mins at most walk to town and when you get your bearings an easy stretch of the legs to the front, on quite a busy road but you get used to it. Nice large airy rooms which are kept spotless with an endless supply of tea coffee n hot chocolate. Would def stay there again.
