“An excellent Hotel with great staff”
Reviewed 1 July 2012

I stayed here last week with my wife for one week. On arrival at the hotel we received a warm welcome from the receptionist and our first impressions were very good. However the reception area did look a little dated. We booked a double seaview room and found the room to be of a good size with an average size bathroom. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel breakfasts were delicious with a wide variety available, the staff in the restaurant were most helpful and attentive. The view from the restaurant looking out to sea was some of the best views we have ever seen. During the day we went exploring around the island, the island bus service is very good with frequent services on all routes. During the afternoon we often used the hotel swimming pool which was of a good size and also very clean. We could not find any fault with hotel, apart from the TV in our room was rather poor with only 4 channels! The service throughout the hotel was second to none and we must mention Mr Phillip Herron as he was very polite and runs a very professional hotel. We cannot wait to return next year.

we first visited the Fort d'Auvergne Hotel when our family were little(30years ago). After they all married and fled the nest we returned. we have been returning now for about 10 years and have seen quiet a few changes to the hotel. the welcome we receive today is second to none, its like returning home to an extended family. the 1st words we hear are WELCOME BACK lovely to see you again. everybodys so friendly and cannot do enough to make our holiday a success. its only a short walk into town (not thru the tunnel)and the bus system in Jersey is wonderfull, on time and very cheap, it amazes us that after all these years we still manage to do something different. well done Philip and staff keep up the good work and we will see you next year. best wishes from Lynda and Kevin Mason

Thank you for returning to the Fort d'Auvergne over such a long period of time. We are a family business and have been in the same family ownership for the entire span of your stays and your comments are very much appreciated.

We are a very traditional hotel and our location, right on the sea front, is a key selling point for the fort d'Auvergne as we are directly by the beach / sea. Our indoor swimming pool directly overlooks the sea and this has been a wonderful addition to the hotel in recent years.

Once again thank you for your loyal custom. We are pleased that you have been so happy staying with us at the Fort d'Auvergne.

Stayed here with friends for a week, and although it is a bit old fashioned it was very good.

Room Tip: We had a side sea view room, which was good as you has the road and people to watch, and to wake up...

My Dad and I stayed at Fort d'Auvergne from 22/05/12 until 29/05/12. We had a lovely sea view room (21) that was both comfortable and spacious. The hotel is spotless, and the staff are lovely. The breakfast is plentiful and varied and cooked to perfection. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff on reception, especially the assistant manager who helped me tune the TV in, and was so amicable. The location of the hotel is great, and the ebbs and flows of the tides is a sight to behold. I have no negative comments about the Fort d'Auvergne only, I hope the next time I stay there I hope they have updated the TV's. No big deal really as we were out most of the time exploring the wonderful island of Jersey, a true gem in the Atlantic. Thanks to everyone for enabling us to have a memorable stay. Loved it!

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a seaview, it's worth it!

I was looking forward to my stay at the Fort D'auvergne because of the good reviews it had received on Trip Advisor. However I was so disappointed! First of all it's location. Yes, it's on the seafront but it was smelly and overlooks the gasworks so I wasn't too upset to be given a room overlooking the road. The outside of the hotel is very old-fashioned and this doesn't improve on entering - dated, tired decor and carpets and a musty smell in the lounge. My room was a good size but about 30 years out of date - really old fashioned furniture and a TV that was a joke. I was woken early every morning by creaking floor boards which were extremely loud (I am not a light sleeper). We had a heatweave at the time but the radiator in my room was on and I was unable to switch it off. Opening the window meant that I swapped the heat for traffice noise and fumes.
The dining room was nice (although again very hot and therefore unpleasant at times) and the food served was of a good quality. I found Service in the hotel to be average. This was my first and last visit to Jersey. There are much nicer islands to visit and better hotels to stay in than this one.

The hotel overlooks the sea. We had room 24, which had a spacious balcony. The room itself was a very good size, with a well laid out ensuite. The only criticism was the woeful little TV in the corner, which gave very limited reception. We stayed b&b, and were not enthusiastic about the totally self-service breakfast. We just do not enjoy mashing teabags and watching pieces of toast slowly roll round a very slow toaster. We did not try the set dinner. To be fair to the hotel, the food offered was very much geared to the majority of the clientelle, who were even older than us. Nothing to frighten lovers of a nice roast and veg. The swimming pool was beautiful. Around the hotel are superb restaurants offering several types of great food. From our bedroom we had a beautiful view straight ahead. To the right was the box shape of the incinerator, and to the left we could listen to the sounds of cans rattling down to the rocks, followed by smashed glass, as yobs threw bottles from the nearby swimming pool. It was surprisingly quiet outside at night. We may have been lucky.
Over thr road was the Sovereign car hire company who charged us £11 a day for petrol. It would be very interesting to see an itinery that includes sufficient mileage on the Isle of Jersey to use £11 worth of petrol in a small Peugeot. They also added a £4 fee per night for parking in their own car park.
The helpfulness of the hotel staff was first class, and we enjoyed the overall experience very much. .

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you really enjoyed the Fort d'Auvergne. We are a traditional hotel and seek to make your stay comfortable.

Jersey enjoys very low rates of crime. It is not usual to hear of bad behaviour from young people outside of the hotel at night. We will monitor the area, of course, and will contact the local police should this occur again. But this is not a frequent comment from guests that stay with us.

Once again, thank you for your kind feedback.
