Ok, but had somehow expected a little more

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Nov 2017
This hotel is in a good location if your want to explore St Helier, as everywhere is within walking distance. The car park appeared very small, but we did not have to use it.
The staff were very pleasant, and our room was very comfortable. Wash basin in the bathroom was very low - obviously designed for appearances rather than practical usage. The continental breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice and very fresh croissants and Danish pastries included. We did not use the spa facilities. My only gripe is that there was a function on in the hotel on the Friday evening, and I could hear a group of 'smokers' who had gathered outside until after 1am.

We visited here recently for the second time, our first visit a year ago couldn’t be faulted but this visit was disappointing, our room was supposed to be large enough for 4 people with a sitting area, (we were travelling with a teenager) it just had enough space for one extra camp bed with a chair in the entrance, clearly moved to make space for the camp bed, causing a few stubbed toes, this we presume was meant to be the ‘sitting area’ cannot imagine where the bed for the fourth person would go? we were in room 221 which we discovered after going to bed on the Friday night was directly above the function room & was not remotely soundproof, so we had loud music blaring each night, even drowning out the tv, my daughter eventually managed to get to sleep with earphones in & a pillow over her head! On the Saturday upon returning from a day out we discovered a do not disturb sign on the door, which had not been there when left & certainly had not been put there by us so therefore the room had not been serviced, although the extra pillows we had asked for had been thrown on the unmade bed, had the sign actually been on the door then perhaps the housekeeper wouldn’t have walked in on us without any warning that morning, Just not a great stay, not the cheapest hotel so you really expect a better experience than this, think we will look elsewhere next time

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of the Jersey Michelin Experience.

The hotel isn't in the finest part of St. Helier, just off the Green Street multi-storey car park and doesn't have wonderful views but we knew this before we visited.

I think it is in a very good location - the town itself is only a couple of minutes walk, whether you go down Green Street towards the main shops or go through the tunnel to Liberation Square.

The rooms were clean and quite modern although the pillows were far too soft. There isn't an iron or ironing board in the rooms, however if you ask at reception they will bring one to you so no real loss - they have pretty much everything else you would expect, tea, coffee, mini bar, hair dryer, bath robes, umbrella, toiletries and each night a turn down service including a bottle of water each and home made shortbread (very sweet but very nice).

Breakfast is continental and self serve and there was more than sufficient for us to enjoy and start the day well.

During our stay we had a spa treatment which included a discount for being guests and I have to say it was excellent - Rasul mud experience followed by a full body massage.

The spa itself isn't that spectacular with a small pool and limited seating around it but we had the use of the room besides the pool as we were having a treatment and this was very nice with your own bed, cold/hot drinks and nibbles (all healthy of course).

Staff were always very friendly and accommodating but overall I didn't get the impression the hotel warranted a 5* rating as we have stayed in many 4* which I think are above here - maybe my expectations were a little high? - I would go back and would recommend staying here none the less.

The hotel is nice, but everything is very tired looking or broken.

The lights in the wardrobes don't work, the shower has to be at a certain pressure to actually keep the temperature, the radio volume switch didn't work in the bathroom. The robes in the room are very thin and worn and the bathroom was generally a bit tatty.

The sinks in the bathrooms are very low and probably not suitable for some people as they would have to bend down so far to use them.

The pool is absolutely freezing, there is no jacuzzi and the steam rooms do not work particularly well, plus the whole room is very dark and slippery.

The lift is hopeless. It takes ages and makes all sorts of noises when using it.

All sorts of charges are added at the end of your stay which end up being 'mistakes' when queried.

Its a nice hotel for a short stay, but the quality and service is certainly not worth the high price you are forced to pay. We also do not think the star rating has been awarded correctly either, especially when compared to other hotels with the same star rating.

If breakfast is included in your booking fee, we would not expect to have to pay around £10 extra for some cooked breakfast. Only cereal, fruit, toast and croissants are included in the extra price you pay when booking.

Well situated close to heart of St Helier. Picked as seened most suitable at the time on last minute and flight inc. However, if I went again I would pick coastal hotel - no good scenery from this hotel. Michelin star restaurant food was an absolute treat and delight - we had the 'lucky dip' - service here impeccable. However, not so good the following night in the Bar restaurant - very slow and waiter somewhat surly and seemed somewhat incompetent in stark contract to previous evening. Clean and room adequate but not special.

Sold as a 5 star property on Lastminute.com but service and facilities did not meet expectation set by that rating or the price paid.

Indoor pool was ingested and freezing cold. Housekeeping was inconsistent and poor. Dirty glasses in the bathroom, which too 3 hours to replace when reported. Removed all towels and didn’t replace them when room was serviced. No complimentary water in room on second day and on first day was only put in room after turndown.

It’s all small things, but I expect better for the price and the rating. Will not be going back.
