Very dour greeting from a unfriendly owner. Shown to our room - what a shock. the furniture came from a jumble sale and was very unstable. The TV did not work as the socket was broken. They were unable to mend it. Shown to a new room which was better. this one had a leaking shower. We had no hot water in the morning. No shower mat or lock on the door.In adequate heating in bathroom. Breakfast was adequate until we found a long dark hair in the jam. The whole place was dirty dark and dingy. Shall not be returning.

Didn't know what to expect after reading other reviews but I was pleasantly surprised with The Havelock.
My room was booked at the last minute for a 5 night stay and was adequte for my needs. It was cleaned daily and though smelling a bit musty, a common problem with older basement rooms, was comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful but some of the ingredients, especially the sausages and beans were cheap and tasteless. On the second morning I changed the order to meet my needs and all was OK with the world!
The owner was quiet but efficient and did not see anything of him apart from breakfast. I would stay here again mainly due to the cost and its position on the sea front.

Room Tip: Only tried one room therefore unable to comment

For the price it was excellent that means alot to two Senior Ladies but also very clean and plenty of food to eat both hot and cold with the owners and staff asking would you like anymore.
Also we chatted to other people who also appeared to have enjoyed their stay of a weekend.
We stayed two weeks and as others comented the bedding changed and towels also very very clean.
What on earth do people want for less than B/B at approx: £36?
Amelia & Joe and staff were GREAT Alice & Jono tried very hard with their English with French & German Guests but I am afraid some Guests do not take that into consideration.Hopefully we shall be back the People are very friendly and kind stopping to help if you are not sure where you are when looking at maps etc:The bus drivers were jolly and spoke to you as if they knew you my Friend & I are

Please remove the cheesy cheap faded plastic flag bunting from your rails - very ugly and I kept thinking there was someone on the balcony when the wind would blow (always). The front desk area was never staffed and no one to ask questions to. The woman who showed us our room was not friendly. Had to ask for a hairdryer - should supply them in-room. Room was clean, bathroom too. We opted for cheap and cheerful but only got cheap, no cheer. Good balcony view though.

Having head previous reviews we were a little worried. However we soon found this was unfounded the owners were very pleasant and could not do enough for us. We had a large airy room with our own balcony. The rooms were cleaned daily and bedding changed half way through the week. We had a very good choice of food for breakfast at least 8 cereals to choose from and a cooked breakfast. Staff were very effecient and polite at alltimes.
The decor is alittle dated but the cleanliness and polite staff amde up for this.
Hotel is very well situated for St Helier and value formoney

Like other reviewers, we were very put off by some of the comments left by other guests but decided to continue with the booking.
Over the years we have travelled extensively and stayed in accommodation ranging from primitive to luxurious. We were only going to Jersey for a short break (5 nights) and didn’t want anywhere especially expensive as we intended to be out and about as much as possible.

We were offered two rooms at the booking stage…….one without en-suite but with a sea view and balcony and one with en-suite but without the view and balcony. Surprisingly we accepted the balcony and sea view and the success of our holiday is very much based on this decision.

The bus from Liberation Station (18) stops outside the hotel but I wouldn’t describe it as a major bus route………there was no Sunday service and the last bus at night from town is 18:20hrs. The hotel describes itself as being 5 minutes from the High Street but, even as fast walkers, it took us 15-20 minutes.

We were warmly greeted by the owner (Joe) who showed us our room. There is no doubt that there is a musty smell in the hotel which is more noticeable when you first enter.
The room was small but the balcony and sea view made up for any deficiencies. The weather was magnificent and it was a lovely view. The street is ‘lively’ but the noise is a product of the location and we didn’t mind.
The external bathroom wasn’t ideal but we never bumped into another guest during our stay (and it was our decision).

Joe told us that breakfast is served between 8:05 and 9:00 which is a rather short period. However, it meant we were out and about quite early (for us). The breakfast room had comfortable chairs but was rather crowded. You got to know your neighbours quite well! Everyday there were clean table covers and fresh cloth napkins.
I thought the breakfast was rather good. A wide range of cereals (in the box, but at least you knew what they were) and orange juice was available. I’m sure the juice wasn’t the powdered kind and was very drinkable. There was a wide range of cooked items available and you just gave your choices to the waitress (or Joe). It arrived quickly and tasted fine. Tea or coffee was also served.

In conclusion, we had a very enjoyable stay. It isn’t a 5 Star hotel but you don’t pay 5 Star prices. Our balcony & sea view made up for any inadequacies.

Room Tip: Book a room a with sea views and balcony

Welcome and Service - poor, indifferent, unfriendly. Our ensuite room was outdated, cold and smelt musty. The beds very uncomfortable, bedding very poor. Coffee powder supplied in bedroom out of date! The breakfast very poor - tinned mushrooms, odd coloured sausages, cheap nasty coffee, cheap nasty butter spread. The guesthouse is in desperate need of updating and owners need to be trained in hotel hospitality!!!
