This was our first visit to the hotel since we visited 25 years ago for our honeymoon. The hotel is traditional in terms of décor and the main hotel, grounds and communal rooms are all beautifully decorated and furnished. The restaurant has wonderful oak panelling and a very nice conservatory/breakfast room attached to it. The food is excellent and highly recommended both at dinner and breakfast. Our room was on the top floor of the hotel and we noted that since our original stay, there were signs of wear and tear that take the sparkle of the main hotel away a little. That said, our room was decorated to a high standard but there were signs of modernisation in the room and bathroom which felt like a step away from the hotel's traditional character and feel in places. We would be happier with the rooms following the same traditional decoration and furnishing of the main hotel and would urge the hotel to resist moving towards the stereotypical modern room decoration and stick to the traditional but I accept that others may prefer a more modern style and electrically controlled showers and modern taps etc.
Staff were all very helpful, friendly and competent and we had no issues whatsoever with service in the hotel.
I would certainly consider staying here again if returning to Jersey. You need a hire car, of course, and if steps are a problem for you or you have very young children, this may not be the hotel for you due to elevated setting of the hotel.
If you are looking for a romantic and gastronomic get away in Jersey, it should definitely be on your list.

We had a weekend away from the kids (Peppa Pig World with the Grand-parents - thanks!) and chose Chateau la Chaire because of its location and quality. We wanted to get out and about and explore the wild north coast of Jersey and enjoy some fine dining in the evenings. It was a perfect hotel for this.
We are at the hotel one night which was very nice although the restaurant was a little quiet. The food was very tasty and well presented - lovely fillet of Jersey beef! On booking we opted for buying food and drinks vouchers, effectively giving you 20% discount which is worth doing.
We also ate at Sumas in Gorey and The Navigator just down the road - both also very good). The Rozel Pub is also nice for a pint and a game of cards, pool or darts (we didn't try the good but it looked good.)
Lovely breakfast was served in the conservatory. Coffee to our room was delivered exactly the requested time.
The lounge and bar are also beautiful rooms.
Only (minor) complaint was a tiny shower cubicle as we were in an attic room.
We would stay here again!

stayed over the last 10 days, 2nd floor very tired but still asking top money for the rooms,
staff are excellent but overworked with no real guidance, food is excellent if you can get it !!
arrived back at hotel at 8-55 and at 9pm was told that food had stopped and I only wanted chicken and chips !! ( not a good move there !!!!! ) left in the bar many times in the evening sometimes waiting 20 mins for a drink ! should have helped myself really ! NO atmosphere at all in evening and very stiff !! im 50 and came home feeling 90 !! this place is very very overated
and overpriced and like a retirement home, needs refurbishing externally and 2nd floor, if you do want to go and are staying
on the second floor make sure to ask if its been refurbed before you book, lovely local walks but nothing else to do in rozel and the pub is worse than the hotel, would I go here
again DEFENATLY NOT !!!!!!

Room Tip: don't go on 2nd floor unless they have refurbed the rooms

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. As discussed with my team during your visit the only remaining internal public areas needing attention are the bedroom corridors. This is simply because after last years extensive refurbishment of rooms and ground floor we ran out of time due to high occupancy levels. At the time we took the decision that since guests do not spend time in the corridors and only use them to get to the rooms that we would delay these areas until later this year rather than cause disturbance during guests holidays. Please accept my apologies for this delay.

On the evening you arrived back at the hotel after visiting the local pub I'm afraid this was after restaurant closing. This would not normally have been a problem however on this occasion it was a quiet night and there was not a chef in the kitchen after hours. I understand however that the duty manager was able to assist and made up something for you. There is also an honesty bar in the lounge where you really can just help yourself.

During your visit the hotel was fully booked on most days of your stay and from your comments you still found it quiet. This is exactly what the Chateau is about. I'm afraid if its noise and late nights you are seeking then the Chateau is not able to offer this however I do hope that you will consider visiting Jersey again in the future.

A very enjoyable "holiday" in Rozel coming from the West of the island. We purchased a romantic package which included cream tea, evening meal and breakfast. There was also 1/2 bottle champagne in the room although we left too early in the morning for the free paper. We went on a lovely 2 hour walk exploring the lovely area and garden above the hotel. We enjoyed our well deserved bath at the end of the bed in room DAISY on our return. The service was fantastic although the evening meal quality of food could be better. The duck was good but the lobster for a small supplement seemed average. Although we could have gone off the menu and paid further supplements the choice seemed limited on our inclusive menu. Still we cannot complain it was a lovely break thank you very much.

Room Tip: Daisy has a nice bath (with ducks) at end of bed !

Lovely, quirky hotel in a quiet wooded area. Staff helpful, cheerful and very enthusiastic and nothing too much trouble. Just one or two points that in our opinion could make all the difference.
This time of year more appropriate summer bedding and not the winter weight duvet!! We were given a light weight cover but without a fan in the bedroom it was at times unbearably hot. We were in the Suite and the bed is situated up a very steep flight of stairs without windows and quite near the ceiling. The noise from the room above was more exaggerated (especially the snoring) and you could hear every movement made. We were told the room opened onto a terrace but there were parked cars right outside and it wasn't private at all. Opt for a room upstairs with its own terrace. Food was mostly good and the wine selection also. We were given a bottle of champagne for our anniversary which was a nice touch. Would we return.. Maybe ..

Room Tip: Upstairs with terrace.

A beautiful, peaceful hotel set in a very quiet area of Rozel Bay.The staff were excellent as was the food.We had a special summer deal where we had a 4 course dinner every night for the price of bed and breakfast. We also enjoyed a complimentary cream tea every afternoon.
Each room is furnished in a different style and we chose which room we would like to book.a lovely quiet place to stay and we would definately go back there again. All the staff were firendly and very helpful.

Room Tip: If possible choose your room when booking,we chose Marigold which had a jacuzzi bath and lots of spa...

Chateau La Chaire could be lovely - and maybe it once was, for it has many attractive qualities. An old country house set in extensive wooded grounds, with rocky Rozel Bay a steep few minutes walk away. Public rooms have high ceilings, there is lots of wood panelling, a sweeping staircase and mullioned windows which contrast well with the bright conservatory and outdoor terrace. There are some nice touches, the glass of sherry or port offered on arrival, afternoon tea offered as part of the room package, which also includes mineral water and apples daily. Rooms are generous sizes and some some have outdoor terraces. However, the hotel is tired and kept together by a hard working and charming group of young staff who appear run of their feet, and lack direction or leadership. The house style is classic and old fashioned, that is fine, but it often appears penny pinching in terms of food quality and the consistency of service and the availability of staff, who often appear to forget ones orders or requests from moment to moment. When the food appears, it can be good, but too many things go wrong, including a limited breakfast selection. The wine list is OK? In terms of position and accessibility, it is possibly the furthest hotel from the airport. There is a good bus service from Rozel Bay. If you want seclusion, and peace and quiet, you will have that in abundance, but no other facilities, and the beds need upgrading! Would we return or recommend to dear ones? No, not really, unless there were changes made. If there were, then it might be able to claim to be one of Jersey's finest! But there is stiff competition, and a lot to do. No apparent disabled access.

Thank you for your review. I was pleased that you enjoyed your stay overall.

We do try hard to maintain the high levels of service you would expect but on occasion during the high season the hotel is simply so busy it could use an extra pair of hands or two. Please accept my apologies for the service shortfalls at these times.

The hotel recently completed bedroom and ground floor refurbishment in July 2013 so I can only think that the age of the building, at 1843, is what you mean by tired. We do still have 2 corridors to complete and a little more exterior work but otherwise although not perfect its in quite good shape for 170 years old.

Regarding the beds, I believe you would have tried only one during your visit and I can only think it is just different from your own at home. At the time of bedroom refurbishments the beds were replaced for Hypnos and are all still relatively new.
