Arrived 13.15 following a reservation. We were eventually served with a starter after a long wait. There followed another long wait and we got the main course at 14.30. Wine O.K.
Had melon and Parma ham starter. Melon unripe, hard and tasted like a raw potato. Parma ham in small bits and not very appetizing.
Main courses Roast beef or Roast pork. Beef comprised thin, overcooked slices and looked like it was reheated or pre packed. Certainly not recently carved off the joint. The women in the party left it. The pork was thick and gristly. We waited ages before and between courses and had to ask for cutlery.
The Veg. was fine and plentiful.
It seemed the place was overbooked for the staff available - possibly because it was a Sunday.

The Windmill

This restaurant was originally a pub and has been through a couple of owners and never really quite hit the right note. The new chef patron is classically trained and this shows in his choice of menu and style.

Whilst it might be termed retro there is nothing wrong with this concept and this is not the reproduction of tired old dishes, but old classics with a modern twist.

We went earlier this year and the whole party enjoyed their meal, I had a black pudding starter with was excellent and a Lancashire Hotpot made with lamb and oysters which was delicious.

I was especially pleased and surprised with the interesting and eclectic wine menu which included some good quality American reds.

Would certainly recommend people give this a try.

My husband and ate there on a Monday evening and unfortunately we were the only people in there. Having said that the Bulgarian waiter was very friendly, courteous and helpful and made us feel at ease by not hovering. The decor is modern and pleasing and the food was well presented and good. Apparently the restaurant has not been open long but we wish them well as it is a bit special and there are not many eating places in that part of the island.
