Stayed here with my Mum and Daughter for a long weekend. Lovely well designed, comfortable hotel with fantastic staff who made the stay special. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We ate in both the bar and the restaurant and at all times the food and staff were excellent. The table d'hote menu was imaginative and the breakfast superb. Being able to swim in the heated outdoor pool in October was superb. The room standards were high with an excellent turn down service in the evening. We are looking forward to returning soon. Definitely a 5 star experience.

Initially, I was a little disappointed as to how close the hotel is to the main road but in reality, it isn't busy and traffic made little impact on this well managed gem.

Recent refurbishment of the ground floor has given the public areas a relaxed and elegant look with good furnishings and lighting. Bedrooms I assume will be done progressively and our 2 rooms were still in the English country house motif of the 80s/ 90s. Absolutely nothing wrong with that but given the look of the reception rooms, a make-over upstairs will make them that much more attractive. Bathrooms good and well lit with Ren toiletries. Only fault was with turndown which was not thorough with bathrooms not being replenished or cleaned and bins not emptied. Form over substance.

The weather was generally good and the pool area was consequently a focus for many of the guests. A good pool with comfortable furniture and a pleasant place for lunch. Afternoons seemed to be very busy with lots of visitors for tea. Badly behaved children shouting and screaming of course marred it but no one seemed willing to ask for some basics of behaviour to be followed. Can't legislate for poor parenting but the hotel should request some volume control.

Gardens are very pleasant and exceptionally well maintained with a flourishing walled kitchen garden and greenhouses bursting with produce.

The food and service were to a very high standard. Every dinner was excellent with more than adequate levels of staffing in a very full restaurant. Good winelist with a range of expensive but well chosen vintages. Breakfast also excellent and catering to all tastes with their sublime home smoked salmon being a must-have.

The owners are clearly investing in the business and not resting on their laurels and it shows. There aren't many hotels in the UK that can meet and sustain such a high standard and this one leads where others can only follow.

What an amazing place - wonderful ambience, civilised, peaceful, and calming. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff - I have stayed in some top places but this truly beats them all. We stayed in the Tower Suite which was newly refurbished and amazing. We loved very moment. The food is excellent and the care and consideration given in all respects of service from the standards of housekeeping to the care of the grounds, cuisine and overall comfort of guests was outstanding. We thank all the staff for looking after us so splendidly and making our stay so special. We will be back!Lilian and Frank

We spent 3 nights for our joint 60th Birthdays and we could not have had a better gift from our children and grandchildren than this.
Hotel, location, service and staff second to none. Highly Recommended.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.

We stayed here for just one night & throughly enjoyed our visit. The hotel & grounds are beautiful. Our room, which was the standard option, was quite large & almost as big as some suite rooms that we have stayed in at other hotels. The decor was extremely cosy & comfortable & very elegant. We also ate in their restaurant & had a superb meal. They do need to enforce their ruling not to allow mobile phones to be used in their restaurant though. A couple of fellow diners became very upset about another diner using his mobile phone in the restaurant. Some people are very rude & ignorant, but the establishment need to enforce this rule so that innocent diners do not have their dining experience ruined.

We arrived early for check-in so spent a few hours by the pool. Waiter service was efficient but one of the waiters just needed to smile a bit! My partner took it upon herself to make it her mission to cheer him up, & once we started talking to him he became very friendly. But had we not made an effort I would have left this hotel with a memory of a miserable looking waiter. First impressions count! The staff were excellent & very attentive & efficient - & all the others were very smiley!

We had an excellent stay & would definitely visit here again.
