“Perfect for families”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

We stayed at the Merton for 5 nights in August with our two kids. The hotel has plenty to keep the kids busy. The pool complex across the road is excellent. A very safe place and i felt comfortable letting my two swim around unsupervised. There is also an excellent gym with weigths and cardio equipment, although it only had one bench which was always being used.

The hotel had 3 restaurants within it. The italian was very nice and a good menu ( and kids choice), the burger bar was OK for what it was and we did not eat the main restaurant for tea. This is where breakfast is served. It is a bit manic at breakfast times and if you can make it through the crowds the food is of a good standard. There are loads of places to eat out in St Helier also.

The entertainment in the evening was also very good and we attended the quizes and kids club most nights. Drinks werent that cheap but all in all it was worth it.

There were only a few negative points - one you have to pay £5 deposit per towel at the pool, and if you loose your receipt (like i did) you wont get your money back until they cash up at night. Still they did give it back to me. The family room we stayed in was nice although the bathroom was very small. For this type of room I would have expected more space and air con. I am not sure why modern hotels dont all have air con - to keep cool you have to have the windows open which then becomes noisy.

Overall, it was a great hotel, the staff were well trained and coureous and I would defiantely visit again. However i would not recommend it if you are travelling without children!!

my wife and I recently stayed at the Merton and were pleased with what we found.
a clean pleasant hotel with friendly helpful staff, on arrival we found our room to be extremely hot having discovered there was no air conditioning I asked at reception I they had a fan we had had a long journey that day and fell asleep as if by magic when we woke up there was the fan in our room you could not ask for more.
breakfast was very good, my only problem was a special Mexican night and the food was not special pity I cancelled my table at another restaurant.
overall a hotel I would visit again

Room Tip: choose a room high overlooking the gardens for a view and far away from the lift to avoid hearing th...

Just got home from Merton and had to write this review what a hotel amazing great for all ages we were aged 11 years to 81 years, parents both with disabilities found things easy to use if they were able to use the flow rider they would of , the food was fantastic so much choice we had half board and it was well worth it book it before you go and get 20% off . Must admit before I went I thought jersey would be boring and for old people how wrong was I even the war tunnels was good , indoor and outdoor pool great for all weather , entertainment every night , we could not have wanted more or better see you next year thanks to the staff

Room Tip: We had rooms 558 550 little noisy at night but not a problem nice views parents had 538 very quite...

Our 1st time to Jersey with a family of 5 in one of the family suites with boys aged 6,4 and 2 and room was spotless and spacious. Small downside was the room overlooked the smoking terrace and some of the other guest's conversation was audible but it's only a minor matter.
Breakfast was varied and fresh and we dined at the restaurant one evening and there was plenty of choice.
Free parking was available as was the excellent swimming and leisure centre next door kept us all entertained.
The hotel had free wifi for an hour daily but there are 2 terminals for use in the bureau downstairs, the concierge were both very friendly and full of information and the hotel was very well placed from a short stroll into St Hellier and all the capital had to offer.
All in all, we will definitely go back to Jersey again and without doubt stay at the Merton and to top it all off, we had 5 days of glorious weather. A real gem of a place to visit for holidays!

Room Tip: try to get a room away from the terrace, the other guest's conversation were audible and can go...

Arrived back last Thursday after a lovely holiday. We usually fly abroad for our summer Holiday however to avoid airports this time we decided to get the sea cat to Jersey. What a lovely time we had. This is a super hotel that ticks all the right boxes. We are well traveled having done a mixture of ordinary hotels, 5 star hotels including most of the Canary Islands, The Med and Caribbean. We will be back here next summer- need I say anymore!

Room Tip: Book a room high up over looking the rear garden

2nd visit I don't think we will ever consider another hotel, this one is so perfect, spotless in all areas, all the staff are amazing most of them have time for you and nothing is to much trouble, one or two in the star room could do with being a little more welcoming but still do there job very well, all restaurants the staff are lovely except again jersey joes the same with one or two staff, food in all restaurants is very very good, reception staff are all lovely as well, aquadome and pool are amazing, flowrider is fantastic fun whilst learning a skill for kids and teens but some of the coaches are better than others Mark being the star for our children, our kids 12 - 15 also enjoyed the teen club, very good value for money at this hotel for all ages everything is covered, we saw a lot of mobility vehicles that may belong to the hotel.
The little shop opposite is very well stocked with papers snacks ,suncream, gifts etc and there is a co op about 5 mins walk away, bus services are also close by and we found the locals very kind and willing to help with which stop you need etc.
We love jersey and this hotel.

Returned to the hotel after having a really good time last year. After a few initial problems with room location and noise (these issues were addressed swiftly and professionally by the reception manager) we were moved to a quieter room and all was good.
The hotel just seems to run so smoothly, the staff are fantastic, always saying hello and stopping for a quick chat. There is no rushing around, the maids even timed the cleaning of our room perfectly - while we were having breakfast - so not to disturb us. There is no snobbery and nothing is too much trouble - children are treated like little VIPs - hot chocolate at breakfast!
The aqua dome/flowrider and its staff are brilliant - fab interaction with humour and patience towards kids. Lovely sunbathing area around the pool with plenty of beds.
Breakfast was good, and we used all the other restaurants for our evening meal at least once - Bonetti's being our favourite.
The location of the hotel is good - a 5 minute walk through a lovely park to get into town where we had some nice meals out at Atlantique, Halkett and Indian Ocean.
Another lovely family holiday - and will definitely return.
Can I just leave a tip for parents - please don't allow your children to run up and down and up and down and up and down corridors late at night/early in the morning. Other guests may find it rather inconsiderate! Xxx
