Beds are like sleeping on concrete. I'm guessing they are so hard is due to the amount of old people at this place. Average age must be 70! So they feel a hard bed would suit their ageing bodies! Breakfast is poor, the bacon looks dry and dreary, the sausages have about 5% of real meat in them. Take the safe option and go for toast and cereal.
The rooms are hot due to no air-conditioning. The tv in the room has poor reception constantly. The check out time is a ridiculous 10am. Just ignore the phone call if they try and get you at that time. Please dont stay here. Find a nice local B&B for the same price or cheaper elsewhere.

We have stayed at this Hotel now at least once a year for 5 years, hoever this year will have been twice and are due to go again next month, the food in the Belvedere for Breakfast and Evening Meal is plentiful and tasty - well done Chefs!!

The rooms are clean, comfortable and plenty of storage for all my clobber.

The staff are very polite and helpful nothing is too much trouble.

If going for a drink recommend using The Commentry Box, hidden away upstairs.

Would recommend this Hotel to any age group, my son and girlfriend who are in their 20s also enjoyed the hotel when they went.

We have rocommended this Hotel to many friends and family.

Town is 10 minute walk away just what is needed after the breakfast.

For a 3 star hotel I was very disappointed. Certainly not value for money at £133 for a twin room plus breakfast. We arrived late on Sat afternoon and didnt want to waste time trailing all the hotels in St Helier for availability so thought this would fine. The hotel itself is rather dated in decor. It was like going back to the eighties. Rooms clean enough and bathroom was nice. The room we had looked towards the sea but it was also above a very busy road which surprisingly was noisy the whole night sat and sun! Breakfast buffet was lovely i have to say. If you are not using a hire car I would say this hotel is too far from the centre of town. When I see the prices of the other hotels in St Helier this hotel has to up its standards as it cant compete with them. Wont be back Im afraid.

We stayed at the Merton for the third time this year after having a break last year by going to the sister hotel The Pomme D'Or, but came back because of the ambience and the amazing buffet at the Merton. We love the service and the staff, but cannot critisize the Pomme D'Or for this because they were very good. We changed hotel because of the number of children that we encountered on our second visit, which we found too overpowering but decided to try again during term time - and that really worked. Of course this is a family hotel with fabulous facilities for children but I can honestly say that this year it did not affect our holiday at all and with the number of small children being catered for so well we could get on with enjoying a really relaxing atmosphere.
So go to the Merton with children but don't let that put you off going there during term-time without the kids - it's a fabulous hotel.

We have stayed at the Merton 3 times now. It is great for the kids with the swimming pool, flumes and flowrider. The rooms are confortable, a bit basic but clean. This time we chose to eat in Bonetti's restaurant, which we won't be doing again !. The service is really slow, food took ages to come, and really wasn't very appetising at all. The evening entertainment is ok, but mainly for the over 50's. Only a 10 minute walk from the town, so good location.
