“Bit tired but friendly and excellent value”
Reviewed 9 July 2012 via mobile

We spent one night at the Talana whilst visiting Jersey for a friend's wedding. From the moment we arrived, when we were personally met by Gus, the owner, we were made to feel very welcome indeed. We arrived much earlier than the advertised check in time but Gus and his team ensured that our room was prepared quickly whilst we waited in the sizeable lounge area of the hotel.

After checking our room we had an hour or so to kill before heading off to the wedding. We inquired if there was somewhere nearby where we could grab a sandwich and the lad on the desk very kindly offered to make one for us. Within minutes he brought us nicely presented cheese and ham sandwiches with crisps and plenty of salad. Delicious, and when we checked out, we were only charged £3.95 each. Excellent value!

When we returned from the wedding, quite late, it was clear that our ensuite room had seen better days. It was rather tired and quite dated. Even so, the bed was comfortable, the shower worked well, and tea and coffee making facilities were provided.

The included breakfast was very good. Fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, tomatoes, beans, toast, and tea and coffee were all freshly prepared and very tasty. The portion was not large, but was sensibly sized, and just enough for us.

On check out the staff booked us taxis to pick us up and take us to the airport.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Talana. It's by no means luxury, but if you're after a friendly welcome, personal service, a comfortable bed, and all at a great price, then the Talana is well worth checking out!

We've just returned from a lovely three night break at the Talana. Staff were friendly, hospitable and went the extra mile to ensure we were comfortable. We had a good sized clean room and comfortable bed which more than made up for the dated decor.

Dinner, bed and breakfast was excellent vaue for money and the hotel's location was great for exploring Jersey by bus.

Just returned from a 1 week stay at the Talana (18TH - 25TH June ) it was great .The owner and his wife (Gus & Sam ) made us so welcome every member of staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean.Would certainly recommend this hotel and if we return to Jersey we will certainly go back. The only criticism i would make is the menu for evening meals could be more varied what you get is good but very limited for choice.

Room Tip: Rooms to back quieter as on a busy road

we just got back from staying 7 nights at the Talana The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit dated but very clean with comfortable beds.We had patio doors which lead to the swimming pool area. It was nice to sit out with a morning cuppa. The food was good. We will go back to this hotel when we next visit Jersey. We could hear the entertainment in our room but this stopped at 11.00 so was ok.

Room Tip: Room 1 patio doors to the pool area very quite (except when the entertainment was on but over at 11...

"Talana" translated from Zulu, means "The shelf where precious items are stored", having just got back from a week at the Talana, we would say "The place where precious memories where made".
Yes the Talana is a 2 star hotel, but from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you are given 4 star treatment, friendly and relaxing.
The hotel and your room are very clean, Gus, Sam and James are always willing to talk and listen and help if needed. Restraunt staff are polite and service is given with a smile, bar staff are attentive and service is good. Food was always hot, and portions adequate, the menu offered 2 starters, a set main course, with an option of either omellete or salad, a set dessert or an ice cream option or cheese and biscuits plus coffee. Breakfast offers juice, cereal, full english options, toast and tea and coffee. St Helier is a 15 - 20 mins walk away depending on your route in, through the tunnel or the nicer way through Howard Davis Park, or a bus from just outside the hotel. If you have a car, the car park can be a challenge especially if busy.
The hotel is on a main road yes, so if booking request a rear facing room.
Basically small is best, I have stayed in supposed better grade hotels that could learn from the Talana, we will be going back without doubt, like many others who we met.
Gus and team thanks for making our trip so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Rear facing rooms away from main road.

This hotel was much better than we expected for the price we paid. It's a bit old fashioned but I think that adds to the charm. The food was always hot and tasty and the head waitress is especially hardworking! We always had plenty of hot water and I was pleased to find the room was warm when we arrived on a cool, foggy day in May!
Housekeeping and all staff do a good job and it's a friendly, relaxing place to stay.

Room Tip: Room 4 at the back is quiet and has a small outside sitting area
