We have stayed at this hotel many times, both as a couple and now as a family, and have just returned from another fantastic break here. Firstly this hotel is all about the location, its position literally at the Waters Edge of Bouley Bay is absolutely stunning and you will struggle to find a setting more beautiful this close to home. It is situated beside a pebble beach with an amazing array of rock pools to explore and in between 2 incredible coastal cliff footpaths which overlook the coast of France. My children are 3 and 5 and love clambering around rock pools and throwing pebbles into the emerald green sea, holidays like this are what childhood is all about. If you, like us, live a hectic life and need to recharge somewhere therapeutic then seriously this is the place. The hotel itself offers a good standard at reasonable value for money, food is good quality whether you choose the more formal restaurant (overlooking the bay) or the Black Dog next door. Breakfast offers a decent selection of Full English or Continental which is served in the sea view restaurant. Public rooms are very well presented and very clean. Bedrooms are comfortable with new beds and decent quality cotton linen, I love going to sleep listening to the sea and the seagulls. I agree the bedroom furnishings are a bit early 90's and could benefit from updating (I understand from the management that this is due to take place shortly) however they are very clean with very thorough housekeeping. This hotel aside, I always seek modern high end accommodation, however in this case the holiday isn't about the choice of curtains, its about staying in a unique location that can't fail to restore your good karma - there is nowhere more relaxing to be and I don't think I thought about work once! Jersey is an amazing family holiday destination with great beaches/scenery/food and entertainment - particularly if you like your children to run free and enjoy the outdoors rather than just sit in a kids club!

Room Tip: Avoid second floor as they have restricted views.

I've just enjoyed my fourth meal in four days at the Black Dog Bar, part of the Water's Edge Hotel in Bouley Bay, Jersey. Great food, good portions, friendly efficient service and excellent value. There's also great diving in the bay and wonderful service from Bouley Bay Divers. What more could a diver ask for?

We stayed as an extended family in the lovely self catering apartments adjoining the main hotel. Really nicely furnished units with great facilities (very nicely kitted out kitchen and power showers). Perfect base for exploring the island. Hotel facilities really good with the pool perfect for families. We found the food in the restaurant really good and good value; not cheap, but the plateau de fruit de mer was fantastic and well worth ordering in advance! Excellent service from staff who on a couple of occasions clearly went the extra mile.

we stayed for 8 nights in May.Fantastic looking reception area and downstairs dining area, in fact all public areas were good but the rooms need updating and soundproofing!. The room was no 308 and there appeared to be a herd of elephants above (408). We heard every movement including the use of the loo. I had to get reception at one point to ring them as they had left the mobile on the floor on vibrate and ring. Not good at 1 am. The view from room was excellent and a bus service came to hotel for those without transport.. The hotel rooms were tired. Paintwork needed redoing. The shower was the sort that comes from the bath taps. BE WARNED. IT WAS NOT THERMASTATICALLY CONTROLLED. I found this out unfortunately and the water was very hot.
There was plenty of storage space and an ample supply of tea, coffee etc. Nice touch giving face cloths as well. The gardens were lovely and although we did not use, the swimming pool looked very inviting. There is a large decking area with plenty of tables and chairs. All the staff were very polite and friendly. They seem to have come from all over Europe. The beds were very comfy although the quilts were not big enough and the mattresses were covered with a waterproof protectors. These made a noise when moving. I maybe over 50,and I really do understand that some people do have problems but isn't there something that does the job but not as noisily?. There was a serious lack of car parking due to there being a pub attached to the hotel and also a diving school nearby.I do not think we will be returning which is a pity as it is in such a beautiful location.

Room Tip: No idea as they must all be noisy

Went to have lunch on the terrace overlooking Bouley Bay which was basking in gorgeous sunshine. We live at the top of the hill so would be potential return customers over the summer, and with our visitors who come over. Service was okay-ish apart from trying to order at 1.05pm and being told that service didn't start till 12.30pm and she would have to check with the chef.... oops - realised her mistake and we were able to place our order. Took a long time to come, despite being the only people ordering food at that point - disappointed with tiny Caesar Salad for a hefty £11.95 - huge mark up there - not difficult to do that right - tiny pieces of obviously packaged chicken, very few leaves... oh dear... Lady at the table next to us was vocally disappointed too with her crab linguine - she loudly said it comprised of only plain linguine and crab! No luscious fishy sauce that she was hoping for. To top it all, charging £5 for a very small white wine spritzer - dear me! Wont be back unless things improve but feel cheated by wasting a substantial amount of money on such a poor meal.

We used Water's Edge as our base for a course in Bird Conservation at the nearby Durrell Conservation Academy. A fantastic location sitting in Bouley Bay looking out over the sea towards the French Coast. One very early morning start allowed us to watch an impressive dawn break, with the hotel providing breakfast for our 6:00 am start. The hotel itself is undergoing updating, redecoration and modernisation, which when complete will lift the recognition and quality star rating. The rooms are of a good size and those facing the sea command fantastic views. The communal areas, the bar, lounge and restaurant, are all very comfortable and again command super views over the bay and surrounding coastline. The refurbished outdoor pool and veranda offer a good sun trap. Staff very friendly and supportive. The menus at breakfast, lunch and dinner all offering excellent quality food and the wine list is well priced. The attached pub - 'The Black Dog' is a good alternative if you fancy a quick meal and a pint. Parking may well be a bit of an issue when the hotel is really busy, but it is not an insurmountable problem. A good base from which to explore the island by car and the numerous coastal walking paths offer good exercise.

Room Tip: Choose a sea facing room.

Stayed here for four nights. Rooms very well sized. Hotel area and room very clean. It was just missing that sparkle for me personally. Working staff friendly. Sadly the manager needs a customer service course. Not a cheap stay by any means and when I pay that bit more I expect that bit more. Hotel was not busy. I would expect a good morning from manager and a line of conversation. Even on check out he sat behind the desk in his office. I I think Jersey is struggling for tourism at the moment which is a shame as it is a beautiful place with fantastic beaches and restaurants. Overall though fantastic views from this hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view room above floor two as floor two all share a long walkway balcony.
