“Excellent spot for a relaxed week”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

We have just returned from a week in Jersey staying in one of two self catering villas at the Undercliff Guest House in Bouley Bay. The location was excellent, only 4 miles from St Helier (shopping, ferry etc) but secluded and at the end of a road leading to the bay so very little passing traffic. The accomodation was one of the best quality self catering villas we have stayed in and rooms were of a 4 star hotel standard. It seemed to be recently completed and everything was spotless on arrival - providing a real wow factor. The couple managing the property (and adjoining b&b) were very helpful and friendly, without being intrusive. The holiday was for our parents 50th wedding anniversary and they really enjoyed the week, especially as one if the bedrooms/bathrooms was at ground level. Would definitely return.

We have just returned from a week's stay at Undercliff. We had a sea view room at the far end of the B&B- our room had plenty of space with a very modern & clean bathroom. The room was cleaned every day to an excellent standard. Ida and Richard were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were excellent- and as mentioned, the porridge creamy and delicious (especially with a dash of golden syrup!!!) The nearby pub ( the Black Dog) provided good evening meals at reasonable prices. Bouley Bay itself may not be the most pretty of bays on the island but it has a nice charm and character of its own. The pool was there for us to use but it was a bit chilly so gave it a miss.
Many thanks to Ida and Richard for making our stay on Jersey so pleasant.

Room Tip: We can only speak for our room but it was nice to be off at the far end. These are family rooms so m...

My family and I have just returned from a blissful 7 nights at the Undercliff in Jersey and are all desperate to go back as soon as possible! The guest house is just above Bouley Bay in the cliffs. This location is breathtaking - magnificent flora covered slopes, down to the sea. Everything about Undercliff is charming, tasteful and immaculate, from the beautiful gardens and pool area to the characterful building itself. Our triple ensuite room, (for my husband, myself and my daughter) was small, but cleverly designed so we didn't feel at all claustrophobic. The breakfast is excellent, both continental and cooked. We loved the location - 2 minutes walk to the beach and an easy drive to everywhere we wanted to visit. Ida and Richard are great hosts too. We will definitely be returning!

Just got back from staying here with my two children.

The room was nice, clean, lovely view and the door and window were beautiful!

The breakfast was great, with serving times from 8.45 - 10am we did have to wait a while for 8.45 a couple of times, but that is down to my children waking early, I was quite happy with the times. The choice of food was good, a selection of fruit and breads/spreads to help yourself to, and table service for cereals, cooked breakfast etc. Nice big pots of coffee and they bought in some soya milk for me after I asked for it..

The owners were very friendly and also helpful when I had a problem with my car, calling the mechanic they use for me, and when they were unavailable, giving directions to another nearby garage.

The pool was small but clean and a nice little poolside area. The sea at Bouley Bay isn't the easiest for swimming due to it being very rocky on the shoreline, (although it is possible, just not the easiest!), so having the pool there was great and my children especially made full use of it, giving me a bit of time to enjoy a book on the sun loungers.

We had dinner one night in the very nearby Black Dog Pub. Food was good and well priced although was served almost too quickly (ie the speed it takes to stick something in a microwave - although it tasted better than that!).

We also had ice creams from 'Mad Mary's' on the beach, very yummy!

The walks along the coast path from here were lovely, the view was stunning.

You are a bit 'out of the way' in this location, although Jersey is small enough to explore anyway so this is a great base to stay somewhere quiet.

We stayed at Undercliff for one week. We had two rooms both of which were clean with towels being changed every day and beds being made up. Undercliff certainly deserves its four star guesthouse rating, with its swimming pool, homely and quiet atmosphere and wonderful service from both its owners and staff who we couldn't speak more highly about. Richard and Ida couldn't be more friendly or helpful and nothing was too much bother, we only had to ask and they did their best to help. The breakfast each morning is served directly to your table with a good selection of fruits, bread, cereals, and a full English served with a different selection each morning. Richard cooks the breakfast himself and Ida serves. You can see the real team effort and how interested they are in each guest. We must particularly thank them for how they looked after our son. They were so kind and I know he felt special and this made his holiday even more enjoyable (he is already looking to go back). Overall the location and setting is idyllic, easy to get to by bus or car. With walks, and attractions close at hand. The guest house is clean and the grounds are kept to a high standard. This is certainly the place to go for a nice quiet holiday.

My husband & I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Undercliff. We had a lovely break which was made even better knowing that we were going back to a comfortable & friendly place to sleep. We had room 3- the bed was huge, very comfortable & the room had all the amenities you'd expect. Although the shower was a bit dated, it was still good- if it ain't broke, why fix it? My only critisicism about the room was the towels, whilst they were clean, they did smell a little musty. The tea & coffee facilities in the room were well stocked & replenished daily. The breakfast was lovely- very plentiful & if you opted for continental & full English you could roll out of the door!
Bouley Bay is lovely & there's the Black Dog a few minutes walk from the guest house which serves great food. There's also Mad Mary's cafe on the beach- the crab sarnie is a must & the Bouley Burger is an experience!
This is a lovely guest house run by friendly & professional people & we wouldn't hesitate in returning, thank you!

Thank you for your positive review. Regarding the comment about towels not being perfect, we write in our room literature "If you have any issues please tell us immediately and we can endevour to do something about it" Unfortunately now we have no chance to rectify your problem, but you can be sure that we will be monitoring our laundry process carefully on an ongoing basis.

My husband and I stayed for 13 nights in June/July 2013 and cannot give enough praise! The beautiful location with superb views, the style and comfort of the accommodation and most of all the attention and friendliness of Ida and Richard. Nothing is too much to ask for. Breakfasts are personally cooked by Richard with a varied menu each day, but if you require something different-no problem! His porridge is to die for and despite the fact it's summer, is impossible to resist. In addition there is a great selection of fresh fruits to start the day. Ida is adorable and makes you feel you just can't wait to return. Thankyou both for making our holiday very special indeed!

Room Tip: Room 9 has amazing views of the bay and access to a small private patio shared with the room next do...
