“Great Location”
Reviewed 10 May 2012

Stayed for a weekend for a reunion, hotel full. Staff very pleasant on arrival and our room was ready - we had chosen a seaview/balcony room. Room was not big but balcony was spacious and good bathroom. Nice touch was free bottles of water, plate of fresh fruit/chocolates and free secure internet.
As we were at a reunion we had set evening meals which were very good, breakfast was mostly a buffet with hot food cooked to order and again very good.
This would be an ideal location for a family holiday as there is a sandy beach just across the road, good bus services into St Peter Port and plenty of walks nearby.

Room Tip: Spend a little extra for seaview/balcony, balcony large and facing west so beautiful sunsets to be s...

The hotel has fantastic views over the Bay - make sure you book a sea view room though!
We had a second floor room, very comfortable bed, great shower and fresh fruit when we arrived.
The only problem was the lack of storage space provided for suitcases and no provision for clothes storage, except for a hanging wardrobe. Could do with some coat hooks and cupboard provision - we had to keep clothes in the suitcases!
The breakfast was excellent and when we had dinner the food was 1st class, including the service. Certainly would recommend as a hotel and venue.

Room Tip: Second Floor rooms over looking the Bay

We were very pleased we chose this hotel. Great value - lovely room and great breakfast. We were in room 114 and with a poorly insulated door we could hear people passing to other rooms. There were minor problems with the service over dinner. The food was excellent, though a little pricey. Disappointed to be charged for a bread basket, particularly as there was no toast with the terrine in the cold meat plate. Great outdoor seating area at the front of the hotel with glass protection to keep out the breeze. Great for a meal or a drink before dinner in the restaurant.

Room Tip: Ask to be on the front (and at the end of the corridor) if the weather is good enough to sit on the...

We had a great room with great touches like fresh fruit, dressing gowns and a lovely balcony over the bay.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful in reception and in the dining room, although we only had breakfast.
The breakfast was impressive, although I think the breakfast operation could be more efficient with clearer responsibilities for the staff.
The weather was awful at the end of April but the room and hotel were nice and warm

Room Tip: Room 201 is probably the best

We spent a 4 night break here at the end of April and had a thoroughly lovely time. The staff were friendly and the service went beyond what was necessary. We had room 108, which was beautifully proportioned having a lovely bathroom at one end with a walk-in rainfall shower and separate bath; the bathrom has been completely modernised. At the other end of the bedroom is aseparate lounge area with sofa and TV; you also get another TV in front of the bed too.

The only down side of the room is that it was next to the restaurant extractor fans and the Roquemount pub. The extractor fans go off at 10pm (when you should be in the restaurant or lovely bar anyway) and start at 7:30am but the room is so large and well proportioned that it kind of made up for the noise. On our first night the pub had the jukebox turned up loud enough that we could not sleep at 10:45pm but after complaining to the night-porter, they actually turned it down, which I thought was impressive (I think the same company owned the pub). After that we had no more problem with noise, even when they had a band on Saturday night (never heard a thing).

The best thing about the hotel is the beautiful bar and fabulous food in the restaurant. The food is not cheap but worth every penny; I recommend the sea-bass, brill or turbot. Make sure you take time to have a drink in the bar beforehand as it is very plush and relaxing. The restaurant manager was also very good, making sure everything was attended to properly. Please, please make sure you dine here; you won't be disappointed. They also own the Farmhouse hotel too and we dined there one night and the food was just as good.

Breakfast was good quality, decent choice with an ample selection on the cooked options.

The location is great. It is on the west coast of the island overlooking a lovely beach, which is great for walking. The west coast is a lot less built-up and thus quieter than the east where St Peter Port is located; as such it is much prettier too. There is a lot of good walks nearby and nature reserves so if you like your bird-watching, which I do, then you will love it.

There is also a small spa with sauna, steamroom hot-tub and mini-gym. Take your cossie as the hot-tub is very good; great jets and blindingly hot. We used it every day and was a great way to relax after a long day walking

Guernsey is such a small island so it is easy to get round by car and the hotel has ample parking. We took up their offer of free hire-car with the room but would Not recommend you do so. The hire is free but by the time you have paid for insurance, insurance excess waiver, wheel scuff insurance and environment tax it works out expensive. You can get a cheaper deal if you shop around and use a local provider (you can find them on-line). The hire is with Europcar who I have had bad experience of before and yet again they let us down; the car was not at the airport when we arrived and we had to wait 15 minutes before one arrived. This is not a complaint at the hotel but if I were them, I would change supplier and, If I were you, then shop around for a better deal.

Overall I would recommend this hotel if you like a relaxing break, great location and fabulous food

Room Tip: We did not like the balcony rooms as there is no barrier between them so you are very exposed and ov...

This hotel is located on the west of the island near the beach and with easy bus links around the island. While the hotel is of good standard, there are several points that let it down. The restaurant only serves up to 9.30pm which is problematic if you have flown on the 7.30 from Gatwick as it arrives around 8.30 and the taxis takes about 20 mins so you are really rushed to register, shower, change and get down for dinner in time. The bed in the room we had was 2 singles pushed together. The ridge caused by this was uncomfortable, in fact 3 not so good nights sleep. Surely a king size mattress or a topper is not too much to ask.
The hot tub was fine as was the sauna but no towels in the area which caused wet slippery floors. The only exercise cycle had a flat battery but the hotel didn't carry spares so this was unusable. The multigym was dated and only one person at a time could use it. A real let down for those who like to exercise especially when the weather is bad.
On balance there are better hotels on the island for a similar price if you are keen on exercise and are cjhoosing a hotel for this facility.
