We stayed here to celebrate my wife's 29th birthday (for the tweflth time) and we were the youngest guests by quite some margin.

The hotel is a bit tired and in need of refurbishment. Our room was a bit scruffy with dated decor. The bathroom was grubby and the toilet wouldn't flush.

The breakfast was uninspiring, consisting of cereals, a few pastries, a limited choice of fruit and some yogurts from a buffet and a cooked breakfast that was cooked to order but also fairly bland and uninspiring.

We ate in the bar one night and I have to say that the steaks we had were very good and reasonably priced. The wine was also very reasonably priced for a hotel.

All in all I think that this hotel is perfect for the retired clientelle which it attracts - cheap, safe and uninspiring.

We won't be going back - even after we have retired.

Having read the reviews of Hougue du Pommier with some being positive and some negative we were not sure what to expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised from our first meeting with Hotel staff to the quality of the food and the rooms. In some parts of the Hotel the decor is dated but the overall cleanliness cannot be faulted. The food served in the bar was suited to all tastes at a very reasonable price and we ate there twice. The Hotel is ideally situated a short walk from Cobo Bay with a fantastic bus service from virtually the front door. At 60p a trip it was excellent value and always ran on time. This was our first visit to Guernsey and overall we found the island a wonderful place and will certainly return.

Friendly welcome. Quiet, nicely decorated rooms. Ideal location whether travelling by car, bycycle or bus, or all as we were. Food is great value, with a menu to cover most tastes, we chose to eat in every night. Pool area a great place to relax, secluded, and sheltered. The staff are a credit to the hotel, all very friendly and pleasant, and the room cleaning could not be faulted.
We have travelled widely abroad, staying at hotels from very basic to luxurious, and we would certainly recommed the Hougue to anyone.

We stayed for 8 nights with two friends on a B&B basis to give us freedom to eat where we chose in an evening. We did, however, eat in the bar at this hotel on four of those evenings and the food was invariably of a high standard. The hotel is in a quiet country location a few minutes walk from Cobo Bay. Staff were friendly and helpful and everything was clean. This was our first visit to Guernsey and we knew little about the island but this hotel was ideal for our needs. We would definitely return if we come back to the island.

I have stayed in quite a few hotels over the years and in terms of value for money the Hougue du Pommier was excellent.
The staff were efficient and enthusiastic, the food was pretty good, and the swimming pool was very welcome at the end of a day's sightseeing. The rooms were a goed size and the general amenities of the hotel - grounds, bar, sun deck, conservatory - were useful.
Overall, this is not a 4/5 star hotel, but I personally would say that a stay at the Hougue du Pommier was more 'comfortable' than any 4/5 star hotel that I have stayed in in the past.
If there was a downside it was no sea view on an Island, but this was available within a 10 min walk

We stayed at this hotel when we visited our daughter who has just move to Guernsey. This was a budget holiday for 4 nights and 5 days sailing from Weymouth with Condor. We arrived at the hotel and were shown to room 14. This room is very dated and in great nead of a revamp and looks like it had not had a repaint in years. The bathroom was in need of a complete make over, the floor tiles were cracked and damaged, the bath was chipped but the shower was very good. Carpets in the room had stains that looked like someone had dropped bleach.
The room was above the kitchens so during opening times all we could hear was the staff talking and washing pots and pans. This was not a problem during the daytime but at night it went on until late at night. Then one of the staff was in a private room next to ours and all we could hear was him talking on his mobile until 1am. We did complain to the management who said they would ask the staff the keep the noise down, it worked for 2 days then started again.

In my view this room should not have been used for guests and if you are offered this room asked to be moved. I would not recommend this hotel unless you had a room upgrade.

On the plus side the staff were very friendly, food was good and the location is fair for the price.

Dear iotahunter,

I would like to take this opportunity to respond to your review.

Since taking over from the hotel in March of 2009 we have taken great pride in bringing all of the hotel facilities up to date but within keeping with the character and style of the original Farmhouse which dates back to 1712.

Since March 2009 I have not had any guest comment about any aspect of room 14 and I am wondering if the fact that you were not very well during your stay might have misguided your judgement as coming away on holiday and having to spend time in bed is frustrating for anyone.

Our kitchens are below that run of rooms but as service ends at 9pm normally the kitchen is empty by 10pm so I do not know how the room could be noisy until late at night.

We did speak to the person in the room next to Room 14 and asked him for a little more consideration to our other guests. I do believe that this was only a problem on one occasion and once we had spoken to the person it did not happen again.

With regards to the bleach mark on the carpet we are currently looking to replace this.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the food during your stay and we shall pass on your comments regarding the friendly staff.

I would also be more than happy to speak with you personally regarding this response if you would like to contact me at the hotel.

Our 3 nights at this hotel were lovely... rooms clean & comfortable, staff very friendly and welcoming with a lovely atmosphere. The food was great and at a very reasonable cost.
The hotel setting couldn't have been better, plenty of room, excellent gardens and very relaxing, both my husband & I felt totally chilled. An easy 10 - 15 minute walk down to the local beaches too... a bonus!

Couldn't fault this hotel and would love to come back again.
