We stayed here for three nights during February half term with our 7 year old son and the amazing experience started from booking. We booked the superb value three night break and I had some queries which were answered quickly and efficiently by Christian. He even arranged a complementary pick up from the airport which was there waiting for us on arrival. They also offered us a transfer back which we declined as we were enjoying the bus rides around the country lanes and wanted one last one! Amazing value at £1 per journey and a heart in your mouth thrill at times around the little country lanes.
When we arrived we were greeted warmly and our bags were whisked up to our room whilst we checked in. Christian spent 5 minutes talking us through all the places we could go, marking them on a map and letting us know how long they would take. He also let us know about bus numbers and journey times as we didn't have a car with us.
He then escorted us to our beautiful room overlooking the front garden and showed us all that was there. The room was wonderful, even with the extra bed there was plenty of room for luggage and to move around. There was a variety of tea, coffee and hot chocolate, biscuits and water replenished every day but the best thing was the little plate of chocolate truffles which were so rich and smooth and fudge which was light and creamy awaiting us with a bottle of wine and a plate of apples. An amazing touch and much appreciated. The bathroom was big with a seperate shower and a bath you could while away hours in.
Breakfast was great with plenty of variety and the cooked breakfasts were a perfect start to the day. We also had afternoon tea which was by a lovely open fire in the bar and we drunk more tea than I think we ever have. Dinner on Thursday was an unforgettable experience. The restaurant manger (sorry forgot the name!!) was so lovely to our son, sitting and talking with him, making sure he was enjoying himself and his team were well run and efficient. Even though there was a conference going on at the hotel when we were there and we came down when they were dining they found a table for us straight away and there was no waiting for our meal. Two outstanding dishes were the crab my husband had which was indescribably delicious and made me wish I had chosen that. It was served in a coconut on ice which is a brilliant idea. The second dish was the duck I had. Mouthwatering and cooked to perfection served with creamy cabbage, which I don't really like but ate it all! The whole meal was well worth the money and fantastic value for the set menu. The children's menu had something for everyone and in manageble portions. The burger our son had was obviously hand made and was cooked just to his liking.
The hotel's location is perfect, 10 minutes by car or bus from the airport. There is a bus stop outside or another one 5 minutes walk into St Martin's where there are supermarkets, bakers, pubs, cafe's and a bank. It is about 20 minutes from St Peter's Port where you can catch a bus anywhere. It is also 10 minutes walk from Moulin Huet, Saints Bay and Petit Port beaches. We went there twice and were the only people there but the beaches are great for exploring and hunting for crabs on a cold but sunny February day. The colour of the water and the lack of any debry after high tide told how clean it was and I would love to revisit in the summer.
Two must things to do whilst you are there is the German occupation museum 10 minutes away by bus near the airport which is fascinating and moving. Also the Sausmarez Manor ghost tour led by the wonderful Peter de Sausmarez which is 10 minutes walk up the road in St Martin.
Only tiny problem we had was that our wifi internet signal was not great in the room but that is probably down to the fact we are with a rubbish network!! Perfect once you get down to reception.
We will be back as Bella Luce is a little gem and the team is outstanding.
