This hotel is marketed as luxury and we had one of the more expensive rooms which was very comfortable, clean with excellent facilities. Sadly, there are other elements of this hotel that really bring it down. The staff were a significant problem, particularly the manager. His charm was superficial and we were not left with the impression he cared about his guests at all, in fact he seemed bored with them. On arrival he gave a beautiful performance to his work experience student of how to do a 30 second guide to the island and scribbled all over the map - not helpful. Our holiday was a special occasion but he made no effort to engage in any meaningful conversation and following our arrival, he was barely able to make eye contact. The breakfast staff tried really hard to be polite but breakfasts were a shambles. They frequently got the orders wrong, had to be reminded every day to bring a supply of bowls and I really did not appreciated being called 'darling' all the time by one of the male members - I felt so patronised. I was shocked that an hotel of alleged quality served plastic, cheap sliced bread and the coffee was not drinkable - so weak and when a top up was requested, they just poured extra water into the coffee pot - unforgivable. Based on the breakfasts we decided not to risk dinner as there are plenty of good restaurants locally with welcoming, genuine staff. The swimming pool had not been cleaned so I was disinclined to use it. The staff were always out the back of the hotel smoking, gossiping (including the manager) and there is nothing wrong with this, but as a guest, I did not want to see it. So, I will not go back and I will not recommend this hotel to anyone else.

My wife and I spent ten nights here and although the weather was less than kind we had a pwondefrul holiday. From the second we arrive we were treated like family, nothing was too much trouble and whatever we asked for they provided it. The accomodation, linen, towels, toiletries, cleanliness of the bedroom was excellent. The food was superb, all freshly prepared and cooked and well presented. The staff from owner to gardener could not do enough for you and came across in a friendly but totally professional manner. Having travelled on the finest cruise ships and in the best small hotels in the caribbean and the far east we can honestly say Bella Luce is amonst the best. The generosity and value for money was second to none. We are returning in December. Thyou everyone at Bella Luce!!

Room Tip: Reception will give good advice, but the Luxury Rooms are excellent.

What a great hotel. The staff were brilliant from the moment we walked through the door. The decor is perfect for the age of the hotel. The food was fantastic and great value. The breakfast has a great choice to chose from. The spa was lovely too, we both had an hr treatment and was value for money.Would recommend for a weekend break and would love to revisit Bella Luce again soon

We have frequented Hotel Bella Luce happily for many years, but the recent up-grade has placed it in a world of its own. Whilst the size and layout of this old Guernsey farmhouse conversion will always limit such a hotel from the most prestigious accolades, there is no doubt now that the quality of its facilities, food, ambience and service is in a different league than ever before. We have been impressed with the variety of menu choice, the value for money especially of the luncheon menus and afternoon tea - impossible to finish! Dining experience, often accompanied by quality live music, guitar and vocals, jazz saxophone, etc., is of a high quality and the service of a quality rivalling 5 star prestige places. The many cubby-holed dining and bar area offers privacy if required; we preferred the south-facing areas as the rear dining spaces were a little to dark for our particular taste. The rooms offer a quality to compare with boutique establishments such as Hotels du Vin, but naturally retaining an individualism of their own. The garden is something of a sun trap and a great place to while away the late afternoon. The Hotel is well positioned in St Martins near the south-eastern corner of the triangle which is Guernsey and with easy access to the delightful Moulin Huet bay where Pierre-Auguste Renoir following in the footsteps of Victor Hugo enjoyed painting scenes of children splashing in the cool waters. Not much has changed in two centuries judging by his brushwork! The hotel is surrounded by many pretty paths and green lanes wherein it is easy to imagine Renoir meandering to find the right spot to sit, commenting as he did "...What pretty paths! Superb rocks, beaches such as Robinson must have had on his island". Down the cliff path towards the bay from the hotel you can stop off and enjoy morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea served in chintzy style the bijou "Bella" café and gardens perched perfectly to enjoy the vista over the south east coast and head-land. Renoir would have certainly felt at home!

Room Tip: Top floor is more secluded.

We recently spent a week in Guernsey at another hotel ( on a bed and breakfast basis only ). We like to eat at different restaurants every night. We discovered this fantastic place one night after driving round some very pretty country lanes. It was fantastic, on arrival we were welcomed at the door by a lovely gentleman who treated us like royalty, nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful staff that work there, they were all very attentive, polite, efficient and the food was fantastic so much so that we took some friends back with us for another meal that week. Definately would go back again, highly recommened.

Second trip to this fabulous, intimate hotel in beautiful St Martins. We made a point of getting our favourite room, spacious and well-appointed. The staff here are a delight and have that happy knack of combining 5* service with personality & humour. The bar is great with a eclectic mix of locals and residents. The food is of great quality in both the bar and restaurant. But chilly for the pool on our visit but having lunch or cocktails in the garden is one of the delights.

Superbly situated for amazing cliff top walks and about a £10 ride by cab into St Peter Port (walkable if you fancy a 30 minute hike).

The downsides? Close to the airport (where isn't on Guernsey!) and planes tend to go out quite regularly straight overhead. Breakfast can be a drawn out if the restaurant is very busy. Not cheap but then nor is Guernsey so just go with the flow and relax!

We'll be back at Bella Luce soonest

I stayed 2 nights at the Bella Luce and everything was excellent.
THe rooms were clean and well furnished - my room was small but that was OK.
THe food was really good and not too expensive.
The staff were very attentive and obviously prided themselves on exceptional service.
So I would recommend this for business or pleasure stays.
