“Great views - decor a bit uninspired and a wee bit isolated”
Reviewed 16 August 2010

We stayed the one night here on a walk around the island via its cliff paths. Apart from the decor being a bit unimaginative (like a costa coffee or travel inn!) it was pleasant enough and the breakfasts were excellent. If you are arriving via the coast path then note it's a good 30 mins walk into St Martins so save some energy unless you are keen on dining in the hotel as only L'Auberge (restaurant) is a close by as an alternative.

A strong hotel with a lovely staff.

Stunning location and the food is really to an extremely high standard - despite the moans about sameness in veg of the other reviewees, the menu is varied and all to top quality - why else would one keep going back year on year?

Positives - location was wonderful - overlooking the sea and other islands, great cliff walks and good bus service into St Peter Port and from there around the island - only 60p per trip.
Our room was spacious with it's own little patio area overlooking the swimming pool. Downside - I think the mould on the tile grouting in the shower could be cleaned off!
We booked half board and on arrival on the Saturday, found that the hotel were holding alocal wedding reception. Admittedly, there was a letter waiting for us apologising and saying that the noise would be over by 11.30p.m., which it was but after travelling 11 hours and needing our meal, we felt the poor staff were a bit rushed and we felt awkward pushing through wedding guests to use the smaller dining room. Not only that but there was yet another wedding on the Friday, the day before we went home, which was also my birthday. Had looked forward to a nice relaxing meal but again, we were all squashed into the small dining room and no a la carte menu available. Food wise, not as good as I expected - scrambled eggs resembled a cut up omelette, bacon was like shoe leather some mornings and the poched eggs came swimming in hot water - urg!! The table d'hote menu could be a bit repetative. We had Baileys cheesecake on the menu for 5 nights out of 7 and the veg was the same every night. I expected more from a 3 star hotel. Also some quibbles about the bill at the end didn't help. The young waiting staff were friendly and doing the best they could but I think tighter management could help - we felt a bit in the way at times. Shame - it is a great location and lovely rooms. Do check for wedding receptions, if you are going to stay there!!

We chose the Hotel Jerbourg for it's ideal location and great sea views which was a priority for us. Apon our arrival we found that the agents we had booked through (although taking our money and sending us written conformation) had not booked us into the hotel and to cap it all the hotel was fully booked. The Jerbourg management Paula and Paul were amazing - they offered to find us another hotel, which we didn't want. After going to a lot of trouble they managed to put us in several different rooms until we ended up in the room we had originally requested with the amazing sea view. This did however give us a chance to sample several of the rooms and all were of a very high standard. The cleanliness, decor and furnishings in the hotel were exemplary throughout and the food excellent. All of the staff even excelled the standard of the hotel. They were all so helpful and friendly. The management couldn't have put themselves out more to help us, not only with the booking problem but with every other aspect. Even although you get a friendly family feeling from the hotel it is run and the staff behave in a very professional manner. The location is ideal being not far from St Peters Port with a good bus service right up to the hotel door and there are some wonderful cliff top walks around the hotel. However, if you have a car the hotel has ample safe private parking.

If you want a relaxing holiday in stunning surroundings with a friendly atmosphere there is only one hotel on the island for us, this is the Hotel Jerboug!

I have dietry problems but the staff were very friendly and so helpful, especially the head chief, who is a director of the hotel, who went out of his way to pander to my needs.
Whilst food is very much a matter of tastes and what you are used to, the food for my wife and I was always interesting and well presented. We enjoyed the evening meals and the selections available. The only minor issue was constantly having the same bowl of vegetable choice presented each night, but overall very good.
As previously said the staff were very helpful and welcoming, with nothing too much trouble.
The location of the hotel is stunning right on the cliff egde with some marvellous views on a clear day. The fog came down one night during our stay, we found it quite envigorating, especially when the sea fog horn sounded below on Jerbourg Point.
The swimming pool is not heated - only by the sun - and proved a little cold, and was not cleaned sufficiently every day, but when the sun shines strong is a lovely area to relax.
All in all my wife and I had an excellent first holiday on Guernsey, based at the Jerbourg Hotel and had a very good 8 days, and look forward to returning again one day.

Which spoilt the trip somewhat for us. we had the afore-mentioned room 17, like an attic room with a pretty hard bed. On the upside, there is plenty of storage, wardrobe and drawer space. The bathroom also could do with some attention, there is black mould around the bath. The staff were very helpful and friendly and couldn't be faulted though. The hotels location is perfect, and I agree with another visitor who said the location deserves a first class hotel to compliment it.

The only meals we ate at the hotel was breakfast, so I can't comment on the evening meals.

If you decide to try this hotel, ask for a lower floor room, which appear (from other's reviews) to be larger. Be warned, there are no lifts.

The smart and beaming receptionist greeted me by name and I just knew this would be a great stay. It is all in the quality and detail at hotel Jerbourg from immaculate cleanliness to quality toiletries, fantastic service from professionally dressed staff and comfortable bedding. These folks know how to run a hotel. A perfect setting with some of the best views in Europe.
