We stayed for just 2 nights whilst visiting friends and received a warm welcome, very accommodating for us all.
Clean quiet room comfy bed!
Lovely breakfast, the menu for dinner looked delicious.
Sadly the weather turned chilly so we did not use the pool.
Perfect position for quiet country rest, 5 minutes walk to the sea and only 15 minutes drive into St Peter port.

Having spent a four night stay recently at this delightfully situated hotel, we can recomment it in every respect. All the staff really seemed to enjoy their work which is of the highest standard - reception, room service, bar and restaurant personnel created a warm relaxed and entertaining atmosphere. The cuisine was excellent and not over- priced. Everything was in immaculate condition and the floral decorations inside and outside were exceptional.

We chose La Barbarie as the reviews were excellent . We both needed a well earned rest from our five children and work commitments and Guernsey has the peace and quiet we were searching for, so we booked half board for three nights.
The staff were all so lovely. smart, polite and attentive. We ate in the restaurant each night and the cuisine lived up to the reviews, it was wonderful.
Disappointingly, we had a ground floor room in a "newer" part of the hotel, the bathroom was lovely, clean and modern. The bed was comfortable, unfortunately, we could hear the occupants of the room above us, talking ( at intervals throughout the night), walking across the room, opening/shutting drawers and using the bathroom!!, hence, we failed to have a complete nights rest during our stay.
On reporting this to the receptionist at the end of our stay I was told they had never had this complaint before and would look into the problem....I hope they do....

We stayed at La Barbarie in middle May with our 2 year old son in a 2 bedroom self catering apartment. From the moment we arrived, we experienced nothing but faultless service from the staff we met. The ladies on reception were exceptionally helpful even down to getting us a jug of milk so we could have a cup of tea in our apartment before heading to the supermarket. They also made sure the travel cot and highchair we requested were in the apartment when we arrived along with some other equipment we'd hired from a company on the island.

The hotel is only a couple of miles from the 'capital' where you can catch boats to other islands (Herm, Sark). There is a lovely little cove at the bottom of the hill (not for the faint-hearted or unfit coming back up!!) which had a little cafe.

The apartment was very clean and well equipped. They are fairly basic in decor but had comfy leather chairs, nice TV and DVD player. Ours was upstairs and had a small balcony overlooking the pool which looked very inviting.

The restaurant was very nice indeed. They had a 6-7 sitting with two courses for around £10 which had changes every day, including fish, meat, vegetarian - everything we had without exception was delicious. The staff in the restaurant were very kind making sure we had a highchair (with crayons and paper) each night we ate there.

All in all, we couldn't fault this hotel. We'd have no hesitation in recommending people stay here. Excellent all round.

If you like small friendly hotels with helpful staff and in an excellent location for coastal walks, then this is the hotel for you. We stayed 3 nights on a B&B basis, but the food in the restaurant was so good we ate every night there, and then staggered back upstairs for a comfortable sleep.

Short distance from brilliant coastal walks and beautiful bays. Lots of parking, which is unusual in Guernsey. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely return :)

Last minute booking including car hire and a bottle of bubbly was no trouble at all with details from an enquiry email from a few weeks earlier easily found. The service was brilliant and the food excellent. A lovely location and setting.

I have just returned from a very relaxing break at La Barbarie with my partner . I would recommend this hotel if you like a quiet holiday with great food (especially fish and seafood) that is located well for walking. We stayed 3 nights and it was just not long enough. We booked a superior room with a kingsize bed and I was more than pleased with what we got, although when we were shown to our room, I was surprised that it was in a separate building to the hotel that looked a bit run down. We had room 34 which has its own private staircase and a dressing room - it felt very open plan and apartment like. The balcony was a great was to relax in the evenings too - and the bathroom was very clean, modern and spacious with separate power shower. We had read the reviews about the water pressure but we had no problems at all. The bed is extremely comfortable with a lovely soft thick duvet.

All the reviews rave about food and for good reason - the menu caters for all tastes and everything I ate was delicious. We were on a half board package which we don’t usually do as we like to eat at different places but half board was a good choice as the menu didn’t tire and I don’t think there was anywhere else around anyway. We paid a very small supplement if we wanted something from the a la carte menu - you can mix and match. The same table was reserved for us at breakfast and dinner and it was their best table. The breakfast is very good, again with a wide selection on offer.

Only a small number of negatives: some of the staff in the bar were very abrupt and not as friendly as were lead to believe and the pool side allows locals in, which I found quite strange, especially as it is quite small. The garden area, where you can relax with a drink and a book, unfortunately is no more than a few cheap plastic tables and chairs that are on a slant - it felt like a ropey beer garden when it was busy. The hotel would really be improved by revamping this area.

I would return to this hotel as I don’t think there are that many to chose from all the island and the Barbarie is very nice. If I was going back tomorrow I would be really looking forward to it!
