We spent 3 weeks in Europe (2 nights at La Barbarie) and this was one of the very few places with a real kingsize bed by American standards (200 cm x 200 cm). What the British B & B's and hotels usually call a kingsize bed is even smaller than the American queensize bed (ca. 160 cm x 200 cm).
So that was the biggest plus. But of course there was much more to it.

This lovely country hotel is located outside of St. Peter Port on a very quiet road with almost no traffic, located close to Petit Bôt Bay and Fermain Bay. The German Underground Hospital and the German Occupation Museum are within 5 minutes driving distance.

La Barbarie has a lovely breakfast room with an atrium. It offers a large breakfast buffet. Afternoon tea takes place in the bar and dinner in another rustic room. We had dinner twice and it was absolutely delicious. I appreciate nice interior design when I'm eating in a restaurant and this place was lovely to eat at AND to look at.
One afternoon we had cream tea with scones in the bar which we shared with a nice group of 4 WW II veterans with their wives. What a great time we had!

The room and bathroom were both very clean and spacious (we stayed at the Superior room as it's the only one with a kingsize bed). The shampoo and shower gel samples were incredible, such a wonderful scent! I wish I could order them online.
The room has Internet access.

The only negative thing: the toilet flush did hardly ever work. Usually after 3 times of trying it finally flushed.

One of my criteria when I review a hotel room or a Bed & Breakfast is the reading lamp. The one at La Barbarie gets a big praise as it was bright enough to read a book without getting tired eyes because of too dim light. Unfortunately most hotels try to save money and put 25 Watt light bulbs in their nightstand lamps which makes reading impossible. I rather pay a few bucks more for electricity costs and have adequate reading light for reading a novel and writing into my travel journal.

We will recommend La Barbarie to all our friends who plan to discover the Channel Islands.

Room Tip: If you prefer a kingsize bed, book the Superior room.

Visited La Barbarie for the 3rd time for a short break with friends. Once again they did not fail to impress. The food is out of this world and the staff are wonderful. We will certainly come back again. Many thanks to Ivo and all the staff with a special mention to Richard who kept us amused. Thanks Andrew we had a great time and may the team keep winning. YNWA

We booked in half board at the last minute and from start to the end of our stay it was excellent service food and rooms were better than advertised. We had seen the reviews for the food in the restaurant and it was even better. Will not hesitate to come again. Just the place for walking and good bus service which stops outside the hotel.

we had a short break in Guernsey. The hotel was lovely with ample parking spaces for all guests (cant say same in Jersey). Hotel staff all very helpful and welcoming. Room was comfy and quiet looking out onto the garden. Good location to drive and walk from. we would not hesitate to return when we go to Guernsey next.
Restaurant is excellent. Breakfasts really very good and many choices on the buffet. Food in evenings was also excellent. Varied choices and good quality food

This is our fourth stay which should indicate our satisfaction.
We stay in the self catering apartments but eat in the hotel restaurant. The food is outstanding. There are several evening alternatives, early bird special 2 courses for £12.95, set menu 3 courses and coffee for £24.95 or a la carte. We tried them all and were impressed. Lunch again has a special menu, 2 courses£11.75, 3 courses £14.75 and different bar snacks.
One of the delights is the staff. Every one makes you welcome, remembers you by name and treats you with respect

Just returned from a three night break at La Barbarie, Guernsey.

From the moment of check in, the staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The room we had was just right. Couldn't fault the cleanliness,

We ate dinner in the Restaurant on our first evening. Absolutely fab! Quality food, excellently prepared and beautifully presented. Best bit? Not a rip off!

The waiting staff really went out of their way to please, and their professional approach was much appreciated.

We ate there again on our third evening, The Table D'hôte menu changes daily, and you can also go A La Carte.

Would deffo stay there again, would love to sample the waters of the superb outdoor pool and terrace.

All in all a very enjoyable stay and our thanks and compliments to the staff.

I had forgotten just how good La Barbarie dining experience is. As a regular diner in various Guernsey establishments La Barbarie is hard to beat from the friendly reception, attention from all staff, to the fabulous meal. I can thoroughly recommend the daily dinner menu, fabulous and fresh crab cakes with chilli jam to start, followed by the best slow roast pork belly I have ever experienced, think melt in the mouth with contrasting crispy crackling, creamy mash, crisp cabbage, homemade apple sauce and a tasty jus. My beloved and I both chose the cheese to follow which had a variety of 4 lovely cheeses and plenty of them with chutney, walnut bread and biscuits. A truly lovely meal, complimented by great service, hard to beat. S -J & Kieran.
