“LOVELY ST MARTINS GUERNSEY”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

This was a lovely cottage in St Martins, very quiet, only 2 together. Sharon the Housekeeper was very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything you need in the cottage. St Peter's Port is walkable. Lots of lovely bays nearby with only you on them. No need for a car, there is a bus that will take you from the Airport to St Martins, cost £1. Have no hesitation in recommending this property and will hopefully go back next year.

Room Tip: The bedroom has a king size bed and a single bed. Room in sunny position

this is a good area to stay ,with local buses a very short walk away ,cooperative super market, marks and spencer food hall good little cafe and restaurant, pub all in easy walking distance, close to the cliff tops and cliff paths but the walk back from the beach is very steep, don't go in may because thats when we will be going,it might be worth knowing that the local church clock rings every 15mins it's not the nicest sound but you get used to it after a while. if you are on a tight budget and want to have lunch try thecommunity cafe up Mansell /Mill st in the old quarter of st peterport

We stayed at no 2 La Bellieuse cottage, was the perfect location for exploring the island, a short drive to St Peter Port, the cottage was well equipped, With a large comfy bed, Parking a short distance away, plenty of nice walks near by, would stay here again when visiting Guernsey.

just returned from a weeks stay at No 2 La Bellieuse. This is our 3rd visit to the Guernsey and, by far, the best. The cottage is beautifully presented, well equipped and clean. The housekeeper - Sharon - welcomed us upon arrival, is friendly and helpful. We think St Martin is ideal, being on a main bus route between the Airport and St Peter Port, has convenient stores, a stunning local family bakery and easy access to the coast. There is occasional aircraft noise and the adjacent church clock does chime but the noises are unobtrusive and add to the charm. Only downside is the headroom but I am 6ft 3in tall!
I unreservedly recommend La Bellieuse

This was a great little place to stay and I would highly recommend it. Tucked away in a quiet lane it is very peaceful. Parking just across the road is handy and I would suggest you visit with a car, much easier to get around the island. I am originally from Guernsey so know the place well but there were handy maps and guides provided at the cottage.

The only minor issues I had was the shower - very poor pressure. It was plenty hot enough but there really was not much water. Only a little thing.

The other issue I think people should be aware of is the cottage is located right by the Parish church. The bells do ring every 15 minutes, plus on the hour it chimes the number of hours. This happens at all hours, including the night. As I said, I am from the island so should have realised and you do get kind of get used to the bells but they are not quiet!

Otherwise a great stay and I would definitely stay there again!! Thanks!

We stayed at No.1 Bellieuse Cottage recently. The description of the cottage sounds idyllic. What it fails to tell you is that it is on the direct flight path to the airport. From 7.15am aircraft are flying low over the cottages which makes it 'noisy' and contradicts the sign on the lamp post in the lane which states that it is an area of tranquility. (please see photograph attached) When we mentioned this to the lady who met us on our arrival and departure she said and I quote "You have got to expect that when you live on an island." Local authority tanker lorries frequently added to the noise by stopping in the road with their engines running directly outside the back of the cottage as early as 6.15am and on another occasion 1.45am which was most unreasonable in my opinion.
On a more positive note, the cottage was comfortable and the kitchen quite well equipped, more than one tea towel would have been nice. As the bathroom is located on the ground floor, should you need to use it, extra care is needed when descending the stairs at night. IrisE Centre of Eng.,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at La Bellieuse and we are really sorry you found the area noisy but glad you found the cottage comfortable and well equipped. Sorry you only had one tea towel, you should have asked the Housekeeper for another, our policy is to provide 2. Unfortunately when the wind is in the N - N/E direction which it was when you were with us more planes take off in our direction into the wind. This isn't the prevailing wind direction but S/W and so normally it isn't an issue. As you can see from other reviews most visitors have no issues with noise. The lorry noise - once a week - overnight refuse is collected and twice a week - the cesspit is emptied. I am sorry you didn't contact me when you were in Guernsey as I am sure we could have found you alternative accommodation at one of our other properties.

It exceeded our expectations. Quaint and comfortable cottage with all the necessary amenities. Nice location in quiet village of St. Martin's. Excellent local buses to all parts of the island. Car not needed. Cliff walks are within walking distance.
Highly recommended.
