We returned to the Blue Horizon after a 3 year break form Guernsey and low and behold the hotel is better than ever.
The food is still excellent as are the staff and a lot of improvements have been made to the pool area, dining room and lounge.
Our room was nicely furnished and the bed was very comfortable to the point of not wanting to get up in the morning.
The hotel has such a friendly atmosphere it's like a home from home.
There are fantastic walks along the cliff path just a few minutes away and a Bus stop to take you around the island or into St Peters Port again just a few minutes away.

If you want a great relaxing break this hotel ticks all the boxes.

Room Tip: We had an upstairs room with a sea view but there are others with poolside views.

Very friendly family run hotel in stunning location although hard to find at first. Food excellent as were the staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Unless you are avid walkers or cyclists a car was essential although we didn't try the local bus service. Trips to the islands of Sark and Herm were wonderful. Very tranquil islands. We were lucky with the weather on these visits and would highly recommend visiting the islands.

This was our first visit to Blue Horizon and we found it to be everything we could wish for. The food was really something to look forward to every day and we received the best of attention at all times.Nothing was too much trouble for all the staff and everything was spotlessly clean.
It appeared that nearly all the guests had been there many times before which is the best recommendation ever. We will certainly try to come back again as we would have great difficulty in finding another place to rival this one

Room Tip: Haven`t seen any other rooms but our room had a great view of the garden and ocean beyond and was ve...

Like many previous reviewers we been happily returning to the Blue Horizion in St. Martins, Guernsey for the past 13 years since 1999 and to Guerney itself since 1997. We found this hotel in the Guernsey Brochure after our previous hotel closed to be converted into self -catering flats (The 'Ellingham', St Martins). My wife and I would like to echo all the positive comments that have been made by other reviewers and to say that we look forward very much to returning in August/ September each year. If you want to stay at this hotel in that period then you either need to have booked for the next year before you leave or book in January when the new ferry schedules are published by Condor!! We think the hotel is great value together with the offer of bike hire, bus tickets or car hire although in our case we bring our own car on the Condor Ferry. The food both at breakfast and dinner is excellent and the re-furbishment of the accomodation and the surrounds including the swimming pool continue. The view from the dining room is one of my all time favourites (I ihave photos to prove it!) and the cliffs walks to Moulin Huet Bay are not very far away. If walking and cycling are your hobbies then the hotel makes an excellent base from which to explore the island. We have already booked for next year and cannot wait to get back!!

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view or overlooking the swimming pool

We normally like to try new places, despite this we keep going back to Blue Horizon almost annually. Main attraction for us is the stunning location - a magnificent cliff walk within five minutes of leaving the hotel. Reasonably easy walking into town and many more great places. Food is, and always has been fantastic - people must be crackers not to go half board. Hotel does some sort of deal leading to a 'free car' + cost of insurance, circa £150/ week - brilliant. Alternatively have a free bus pass (services are good) or bicycle if that's your scene. We are lucky to have many holidays in a year and we will probably going back next year....

Room Tip: Ask for one of the recently upgraded rooms, a few need a refurb which is on the cards

We have been coming to this hotel for the past 11 or so years and have seen many changes including change of ownership to the present family. There have been many improvements since Ray & Julie have taken over and many more are in the pipeline. We will not dwell on praising what is already a well documented feature, but to provide information to the visitor, particularly for a newcomer to the island.
Yes, the Hotel is hard to find, but that is one of its attributes. For the driver, hire car or own vehicle, do your homework first. Have the narrowest car that you can put up with, otherwise half of the island will be out of bounds. Also if bringing your own you will need to have an official parking clock (£2.50) for timed parking areas, available from the Tourist Information Office. Leave a person in the car to explain while the other goes to the TIC or you may get a parking ticket. To get here, make for the traffic lights in St. Martins – junction Route de Camps/La Route de Sausmarez/La Route des Blanches (out of airport turn left at four way filter or from harbour, turn left at roundabout and keep in left hand lane all the way to the ‘Val de Terres’ hill.) At the traffic lights proceed towards Jerbourg (Route des Blanches). Best route then is to take first sign posted turn right, (Les Salines) then left at the corner, next left and at the top of the rise turn right and onwards to the hotel. For first time drivers – if you see a yellow arrow on the road pointing towards you, don’t stop, it doesn’t mean a one way street! It is the equivalent of a ‘Halt Sign’ All this info is available on the web. If you have Sat Nav, location is 49º25′44¨N, 2º32′37¨W. If not using the hotel’s car or bike hire scheme, take advantage of their free bus ticket card and have the best of both worlds.
Yes, the hotel is near, but not underneath the airport flight path. Then there are very few hotels here that aren’t. You may hear the paper and mail plane (depending on runway used) first thing in the morning but flying stops by 9.30 pm.
Accommodation is on two floors (no lift) with twin & double rooms with one or two rooms having extra beds. Rooms are classified as - a) Pool view (5 have direct access), country view and sea view. Talk your way through with management as to what you want. The hotel is most suited to the reasonably active who want to explore the island. Cliff paths are just a step away. Buses go round the island and is a 5 minute or so walk to the local stop to Town and ten minutes to the circular route. See timetables for details. In fact you should be coming to see the Island, not lounging about around the pool.
Food. This is a priority here and the hardest part is getting portions that are small enough for your diet. Breakfast is self service for cereals etc followed by any variations (including vegetarian etc.) of a cooked breakfast that you can think of. Dining room seating is in the formation of the number in your party so select the appropriate table.
A packed lunch can also be ordered the night before.
Dinner if taken, needs to be ordered directly after breakfast – this ensures that you are not disappointed. One of the hardest decisions of the day. The menu is rotated on a two week basis so variety is assured. Vegetables and potatoes are decided for you so they may not be always to your liking. Gone are the warmed brown or white bridge rolls, replaced by a slice of white bread stick. There is always a choice of three starters, three or more main meals (meat, fish and veggy) with salads and jacket potatoes as well. Sweets are a speciality so those with special diets should talk to the chef after their first breakfast to see what can and ultimately will be done. If you are going out quickly after a meal, get in early,, tell the staff what you are doing as there can be some unexplained delays between courses.
The pool is of standard ‘Guernsey’ design, heated directly by the sun so temperature is weather dependent. This is one of the areas that is due for refurbishment although more attention could be paid to its water treatment. It would be nice if this area could be made ‘No Smoking’.
Taxis are readily available for the less mobile or revellers, talking of which, it would be nice if everyone learnt how to close their bedroom door quietly, particularly late at night. (Gripe No. 1). Try putting the key in the lock or use the turn knob and holding it while shutting.
The hotel has sufficient parking for all residents, assuming that: - a) there are some that only use buses or bicycles, b) drivers learn to park prettily and c) the number of locally registered cars is restricted.
Finally, a lot of guests book from year to year, so one has to step in early to get the best weeks. Tariffs for next year are held at this year's level.
