“best visit yet to the blue horizon”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

Just returned from a week's holiday, Sept 8th to 15th, on half board at Blue Horizon Hotel, and found that it was even better than the previous two visits. The owners, Julie and Ray, together with their most efficient staff , reinforce our view that this is the best small hotel on the island, despite its two star rating. Why a higher category is not allocated beats us completely!

The food in the restaurant is first class, thanks to Steve, and the choice is more than anyone could want. The in house staff are all very helpful, and nothing seems to be too much trouble.

Our room, number 1, first floor, and designated family, was spacious,, with splendid views,,comfortable beds and lovely shower room.

The owners have invested much time (and money!), in the many obvious improvements.

Overall, another really good holiday, and we would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone, particularly couples, who like a quiet location. A car is an advantage and can be be part of the special deals on offer.

Ken and Joan Lever.
Cheshire.

Room Tip: Room number 1 is good choice for couples or family.

We have just returned from this hotel and were disappointed by it.
Firstly the road signage to the hotel was only visable from one direction and the signs were of poor of poor quality. Clearer directions are need for first time visitors.
Secondly the room we stayed in , room 8 , was tired looking and need refurbishment. Too much heavy pine furniture made the room smaller and the decore needed an uplift. The good thing
was a flat screen TV, but cables left hanging a round made it look cheap. The shower screen was jammed and had to be pulled open?
It was like we were staying in a very select retirement home, the style of the lounge and areas.
Only positive note was the staff were hospitable and the breakfast was good.
Definitely not for us when we visit Guernsey again.

Room Tip: Get clearer directions for car travellers.

Superb hotel, don't be put off by the star rating this is a truly wonderful experience. Ray and Julie go above and beyond to ensure that your stay is a delight. Steve (the Chef) prepares the most amazing food and plenty of it!!!. As for the location it is idyllic plus we were lucky enough to be entertained by The Blades practising for the Air Show over the Bay outside the dining room windows on Tuesday evening! The swimming pool area has been renovated since the picture shown and is now a delightful place to relax - plus the pool is great for a swim to work of all that food. We have been going back for years so it must be good.

We decided to visit a relative that works on the island. We didn't have long to book so tried about 4 hotels. Either already full, or too expensive. Then this was recommended to us. We could not have done it better!

Bed & Breakfast only as we'd made plans for the evenings, but full English breakfast was superb. Staff were wonderful and very, very helpful. You could do a lot worse, but I think no better for the price.

We didn't have a chance to use the HEATED pool.... Maybe next time :-)

We have spent 10 days at the Blue Horizon, and what a wonderful experience it was, Julie and Ray go out of their way to make you welcome and the staff are a delight .The food is plentiful and delicious, you will not be hungry, Steve the chef makes sure of that. The hotel is overlooking the sea, a short way down to the cliff path , and our room had a wonderful view. We hired a car but you can have bus pass or bikes whichever is your preference. we went half board as it is a little way out, which means after a long day out you can come back and relax , knowing you can have a nice drink with your meal( which are reasonably priced) and then have a sociable evening in the bar lounge. A special thank you to Ray and Dan as they helped us out with a problem with our car!
We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms 1&2 have sea views but they are upstairs

We decided to book our holiday with this hotel after reading the reviews from regular visitors. We were very lucky. This hotel is all that one could wish for. Friendly and cheerful greeting, enjoyable and varied meals and the staff were excellent. The bus pass option is to be recommended as driving on the narrow roads might be a bit nervy for some, although the island drivers are very courteous. We agreed that the hotel made our holiday for us.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms facing the pool would seem to be a good option as they have an area for sitting...

We have just returned from our second trip to this lovely, very friendly small hotel. We travelled as a family of 6, me and my husband and 2 daughters aged 16 and 12 and my parents. My girls had a separate room next door and we overlooked the beautiful pool area, which we made use of daily!
Our huge thanks and appreciation must go to Steve, the chef. My youngest daughter has a lot of severe food allergies, which means that we always holiday self catering; that is until we discovered the wonderful Steve last year. We spoke to Julie beforehand, who assured us that they could cater for Daisy again and on arrival Steve came and spoke to us and sorted her menu for the week. Her food was delicious and very plentiful and there was absolutely no problem at all. Steve and the really lovely waiting staff went out of their way to make her food look and taste delicious and to make her feel happy and comfortable.
As already mentioned before, the staff here are absolutely lovely and go out of their way to help in any way. Many thanks to Dan for his extra mints and fixing the telly!

Room Tip: Choose a pool side room
