“Very Good B & B in Guernsey”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

This B & B is a gem. It's clean, friendly and comfortable. The breakfast is generous and perfectly cooked. I would come here again without any reservation. There is lovely pub next door (The Forrester's Arms) for an evening meal and a drink.

Room Tip: If you are semi-disabled ask for a downstairs bedroom, unfortunately is not wheelchair friendly, due...

I stayed here for one night with a colleague due to a work emergency. Room was a standard twin room which was fine for the one night. However, the receptionist on shift was extremely rude!

After asking advice on a reliable taxi service to use to get to town for dinner, we were told to walk instead, and even after explaining that we had no jackets or umbrellas with us and it was pouring down outside, we were told a short no.

Upon checking out, there was no one manning the reception desk, so after politely shouting hello to the back office (I presume), a sour faced receptionist approached and asked us what we wanted. We told her we were checking out to which she told us to leave our keys on the side. After doing as she said, I turned to thank her and say goodbye to which she mumbled something under her breath and did a 'hmmm' sound.

I don't understand what we had done to be treated like this and I must say this receptionists customer service skills were zero to none. From working in the hospitality industry myself, I know darned well that they way we were treated is not the correct way, by anyone's standards, to treat your guests or visitors.

Although the venue itself was of expectations for a 3 star, the staff are what make the experience, and although this was a one night emergency work stopover, I will attempt to refrain from staying here again due to lack of customer service and professionalism.

ok
I am assuming that you are intelligent people and that you understand the difference between staying in hotel and staying in a bed and breakfast or guest house.
Firstly we don't have a receptionist.....so we don't know who you are talking about.
secondly we don't profess to being professional, just being ourselves.
Thirdly it is written in your room, in the hall way and on the desk, PLEASE BOOK YOUR TAXIS AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE YOU NEED THEM. Numbers are on the hall wall, This is a small Island and taxis are a limited service.
Sadly It is not possible to get you a taxi at the click of your fingers just because you want one, even if we had a receptionist which we don't. So you want to take offense at being told by some-one, and to be fair to us no body here remembers this incident, that you can't have a service which we don't offer, but we do try to help people with, then that's your privilege, but don't go onto trip ad-visor and complain about something you are clearly warned about, and I am sure if you are adult enough to write this review you are adult enough to read the taxi no's displayed and try and get one for yourself.
There is no-one on the desk when you depart because they are busy cooking breakfasts. Once again its a bed and breakfast and not a hotel.
And shouting through to the owners flat is not going to make any difference, no the back room is not a reception area, it leads through to the flat which is why it says STAFF ONLY PRIVATE on the door, so who ever you disturbed was possibly resting and not working.
To call them sour faced, well it really is rude.
Due to the costs of the business and Guernsey being expensive we don't actually make any money on a one night stay, but do it as a service to the public, especially those Island hopping.

Though the hotel doesn't promote itself as 'cyclist friendly' we found the proprietor Davina welcoming when we pitched up with our bikes after a long and wet day in the saddle. Security for our bikes was quickly made available in the hotel courtyard, and we soon settled down in our very comfortable twin room. After a good night's sleep we enjoyed an excellent breakfast - freshly prepared - in the hotel's airy dining room. At £32 per head for B&B this was great value.

Always being one who likes the anonymity of large hotels, choice was a little restricted in Guernsey, especially in the winter. However St George's proved to be a good choice. It is located at the north end of the harbour of St Peter Port, not even 10 minutes' walk from the town centre, or a couple of minutes on a bus. Being located on the sea front and looking exactly like the photos makes it easy to find.

As would be expected in a B&B an estimated arrival time was requested. I have no idea what I put, but it proved to not be a problem as it was staffed at out mid afternoon arrival - from the description in some previous reviews I guess this was Davina the land lady.

St Georges was actually rather better than I expected: certainly larger, more modern, more welcoming. It was clean and comfortable, it felt secure, the facilities were all as advertised or better, and the price was certainly reasonable. There was certainly plenty of room in the twin room, no. 10, and it was quite well laid out for a potentially troublesome odd shaped room. Returning "after dark" was no problem with a key for the front door also provided. Road and street noise was not troublesome even with the window slightly ajar - there may be too many cars on Guernsey but there aren't 'that' many and certainly not overnight.

I was also happily surprised by the breakfast accommodation, where a cooked-to-order hot breakfast is available alongside more traditional toast and yoghurt, etc. The breakfast room itself tore apart my previous prejudice about B&Bs, that was probably formed thirty years ago. It was modern, and spacious, with a welcoming atmosphere.

The ultimate test is whether I'd return and the answer is yes - should life ever take me to St Peter Port again I will look up St Georges.

Assuming it was Davina we spoke to on check-in...sorry - the Trislander will be gone from the Jersey flights in less than two weeks! Got there just in time!

This was only £160 for 5 nights for a large single room (it had 2 beds in it). Plenty of space and furniture and a good hot shower, TV & tea/coffee facilities. The breakfasts were excellent in a spacious airy room. The staff were very friendly and efficient and helpful with advice. This is just 10 minutes walk from the town centre, but well connected for local bus rouutes, with stops adjacent. I would warmly reccommend this establishment.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the esplanade and the sea.

We were looking for a reasonably priced guest house for the Christmas holiday period. St Georges offered comfortable, clean and friendly accommodation - very good value with excellent breakfast included.

This is our second time at St George's. great to see a much needed refurbishment is u underway. However this was not communicated upon booking. So not good if you want to lay in with the work being carried out at the moment. The accommodation is cheap and cheerful and you won't get a better deal for being on the sea front.
Generally staff are pleasant, but you MUST read all documentation or be warned for being told off for not doing so. Some more tact from the owner would have made this stay better, she comes across rude at times and not so customer friendly with her approach to answers.

Thank you for your review.....ha ha what did you do, did you not notice all the signs that say PLEASE BOOK YOUR TAXI's 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE AS THERE IS A LIMITED SERVICE.
True to say it does erk me when I am suppose to conjour up taxi's that don't exist on a small Island.
Sorry did not mean to offend, but yes it is best to read the information in the rooms, so as not to exhaust the patience of the staff, who like taxi's have a limited service too.

thank you for staying.
