“Great value accommodation close to town”
Reviewed 1 January 2014 via mobile

I stayed here for 5 nights for a wedding, I was more than pleased with my choice of Abbey Court. It is convenient for town, a ten minute walk in, but 15 back! It is in a good position for access to town and on a bus route to the airport. The breakfast is good, and as a visitor to the island touring places the fact that they don't offer evening meal suits me as I'm not likely to attend it, though they do have an arrangement with another local hotel where you can charge meals to your room at Abbey Court. The room was clean and comfortable and free wifi throughout. I'll book again when I'm back on the island!

I booked 10 days in September 2013 through hotels online booking (www.hol.co.uk). It cost me £690. The room turned out to be tiny on the top floor. Even so it was impossible to open the window as the noise of the constant flow of traffic below was unbearable. There was no space in the room for a desk. The TV was placed uncomfortably close to the tea and coffee making facilities. The kettle was burnt and I had to ask for a replacement. There was no telephone in the room. There were no toiletries other than a soap dispenser. The bathroom was so tiny that there was nowhere to put my own toiletries except on a ledge next to the toilet - unhygenic!!!! Breakfast was included but if you had to leave before 7 a.m. to catch a ferry, then you had to miss breakfast. On one occasion at breakfast time I opened a bottle of Heinz tomato ketchup. The content was covered in a thick layer of mould!!! I gave it to one of the staff - no response!! I am a vegan - they knew this but still ran out of soya milk 8 days into my stay. I have since researched as I was amazed at the price of such a room and discovered that it cost £65 a night on Abbey Court's own website. Despite drawing the attention of this to the manager, I have yet to receive a refund of the difference of £40!!! A couple on a trip to Alderney drew my attention to their hotel ( unfortunately this was on the penultimate day of my stay). I went to the hotel, whicih is in a better location, has far better facilities (outdoor swimming pool, serves dinner, huge grounds, gives guests a packed meal if they have to miss breakfast, bigger rooms with a phone and desk, etc.) and it would have cost me 2/3 of the price as they were charging £52 a night in September and only charge 8 nights if you stay 10 (or 4 nights if you stay 5)!!!!! They don't advertise through booking sites!!!!
In summary, this was an overpriced hotel, a real rip-off!!!!! I shall be keeping well away from booking sites in future!!!!!!!

I was due to stay here for a fortnight on a stay arranged by work, but arrived to find that they don't do evening meals and are no longer in partnership with nearby hotels who had previously allowed you to eat there and charge to your room in Abbey Court. Because of this I only stayed two nights and moved somewhere more suitable (La Piette).
The view is nice and the wifi is good. Rooms reasonably well equipped although ironing facilities in room would have been preferable to hauling an iron and ironing board up several flights of starts from a store on the ground floor.
Although the walk into town isn't far there are hotels much closer to the centre and nicer hotels the same distance away.

Its a stiff walk up to Abbey Court from the centre of St Peter Port. The owner is obviously fairly meticulous. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. Its best to avoid busy times to avoid a long wait because its cooked to order. There is fresh fruit available all day on the hall table. There is a nice lounge with a couple of tvs and pcs. Its where you will find wifi which was not available in our room. There is no evening restaurant. The bar has very reasonable prices. There is a good pub and a hotel within 5 minutes walk for evening meals. The reasonable prices reflect the lack of restaurant, service and distance from the town, Guernsey is a very expensive place these days. The owner, who was around in the morning, was particularly friendly and helpful. The eastern european staff were rather dour and didn't know the island, but did their primary jobs very efficiently.
A good alternative to the overpriced more well equipped and central hotels in St Peter Port

Great value for money hotel on the outskirts of town (15 minutes walk). Great breakfast, included in the room rate. Large comfortable and clean room (room number 19). Tea and coffee making facilities. No bath. Small garden (no pool). I would reccommend this hotel to others but I won't stay here myself. Reasons: I had issues with the owner who overcharged me in the end and the parking is an absolute nightmare. Basically there is very limited space and the hotel staff lets guests park each other in and then they just shrug when you need to get out in a hurry. I was late for work on two mornings and I scratched my car three times trying to get out of the situation.

The rooms here were spotless including the ensuite facilities. Fixtures and fitting were of real quality but the rooms had a pleasing individuality, as did the whole place. Lovely garden and terrace to sit on and also a comfortable lounge. The proprieter and his wife really do care about their guests and the service throughout reflects this.
