“Lovely staff but really dated”
Reviewed 4 October 2012

Moore's has a fabulous location being right in the heart of St Peter Port and a short walking distance from several lovely restaurants, free car parks and the Herm ferry. The staff are friendly and eager to please but the hotel is let down by seriously dated decor in the rooms (Fawlty Towers has nothing on the shelf with the white plastic kettle, and iron and kettle both stuck on the wall). The bathroom looked freshly refurbed so maybe they're getting round to the rooms? Not soon enough!

If you must stay here .. or even if you don't, check out the lovely terrace café with fresh crab sandwiches and home made cakes.

Dear Becky1970

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I am glad to hear that our staff looked after you well, and you very much enjoyed your meal and cakes on the terrace of our hideaway brasserie. I note your comments concerning the room you occupied and can assure you we have a rolling programme of improvements and refurbishments for our bedrooms and we have already started this winter's programme. I hope you will return on a future occasion when we wil do our best to surpass your expectations.

Just returned from a short break at this hotel. Good position, good food and friendly, efficient staff. Very convenient for St. Peter Port.

There was only one thing that did dampen it for us. Whilst our friends had a very large, freshly decorated room, we had a very small room with an even smaller bathroom. We understand the hotel redecorates fifteen rooms a year and possibly our room will be next! The room looked 'tired' and the paintwork was badly marked by the door. The door of the bathroom just missed the sink and we couldn't push the door right back as the toilet was behind it. The shower head was loose but this was quickly fixed.

The above comments would not stop us from staying at the hotel again, far from it, but may be this room should be used for single occupancy.

The hotel is right in the centre of St Peter Port, so ideally situated to walk to the ferries to Herm and Sark and to the buses, which are cheap and clean and go all around the island, which suited us as we didn't bother with hiring a car. The hotel is traditional and benefits from being in private ownership. Service from the start was personal, friendly and welcoming. We had booked half board, which we don't usually but the price was very reasonable and we liked the idea of having the opportunity to dine in the sister hotels or in the Library Bar, which has a pub like feel. In the event we were so impressed by the quality of the service and food in the slightly formal Conservatory Restaurant on the 1st floor, that we couldn't be bothered to go anywhere else after busy days exploring the island! The menu was different every night of the week that we were there, with 5 or 6 choices for each course and we didn't have the feel that it was done on the cheap. Quality ingredients were beautifully prepared and presented and were served by friendly and courteous young staff. Dinner every night was a meal to look forward to and never disappointed. We had a standard room which was comfortable and convenenient. Decor perhaps a little dated...particlarly soft furnishings but clean and inoffensive. Maybe new pillows?
Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Might be best to avoid rooms on the front at weekends as there was some noise from nearby bars but n...

We stayed here for five nights from 23 - 28 August and it was excellent. The service was outstanding and all the staff are helpful polite and professional, from the receptionists and porters to the bar and restaurant staff. The food was really well cooked and presented and extremely good value for money. The hotel bar prices are also very reasonable. the location is ideal as you have shops on your doorstep with the pretty little harbour a few minutes away so you can take a boat trip to the other islands easily. Can't fault this little hotel, definitely will return and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Room Tip: We asked for a view of the harbour and the view was lovely. Little bit of noise from the locals on...

My husband, daughter and grandaughter stayed at this hotel for 5 nights from 15th to 20th August we couldn't have asked for more. Service great. Perfect location for discovering Guernsey. Staff extremely helpful. We could use the facilities of their other two hotels on the Island which was great. We went to them on an evening to use the swimming pool and fitness rooms. Would definitely go to this hotel again if visiting Guernsey. A big thank you to all staff for making our stay very pleasant.

My first trip to Guernsey for business reasons. Hotel in a great location in the town and very close to the pretty harbour. I found it very unique and individual to a lot of chain hotels. It had a lovely restaurant with a nice style, the food and service was excellent.

The bar had character and the rooms were nice, although it was a bit of a maze finding the room down corridors, but this just adds to it all.

If I come again for a weekend break I would definitely stay here, its an excellent base and certainly feels like a good deal better than its star rating.

Thie hotel offers 2 dining experiences - the Conservatory and the more "down market" Library. I am sorry to say, our choice is the Library every time... so we must be down market :) The food in there is fresh and the servers are lovely... locals are a plenty, this is what we prefer trying where tose in the know eat... my tip get there early or get ready for a few drinks at the bar whilst you wait for your table!

Try it and like us you will just keep going back again and again!
