“Nice hotel”
Reviewed 30 April 2013

We have just returned from a 3 night stay here and were very impressed.
The room was very clean (as was the whole hotel) and was also warm, which was a blessing as the weather was not as warm as we would have liked.
We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. It was nice to see peoplef who obviously enjoy their work.
Try the afternoon tea while you are there. It was lovely.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are very glad to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and that you found the staff so helpful and welcoming. Thank you also for recommending the afternoon tea which is served in the Hideaway - we are very proud of our cakes and pastries.
We hope you will come back and stay with us again soon.

Have just returned from four days at this hotel - first time staying there and have already booked to go back again.
The food in the Conservatory Restaurant is excellent, the menu changed whilst we were there and each time there was a wide range of food to choose from. All the staff in the hotel (whether it was in the bar, reception on in the restaurant) were very friendly and helpful; offering to do things for you.
Would go back again tomorrow if I didn't have to be at work ...
Looking forward to being there and being able to sit out on the Terrace with some better weather and enjoy the delights of the Hideaway Patisserie.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear of the hotel are quieter than at the front.

We stayed at Moores over Easter Weekend and although the weather on Guernsey could of been better we could not fault the hotel. Staff very friendly from the moment we arrived. We checked into a lovely room but unfortunity did'nt have much of a view. We asked at reception if there were any rooms we could swap for. With no fuss we were given a large room on the top floor with view of the sea and Castle Cornett. I also dont think I have ever stayed in such a well stocked room, lots of teas, coffee's and hot chocolate on the hospitatlity tray also very well stocked bathroom. Well done! Room also very clean. The hotel in is a great location, right in the centre for the shops, bars and harbour and also close to bus stops. We had no problems with noise at night. Breakfasts were very good served in The Conservatory Restaurant. Good choice from the buffet to start then freshly cooked full english, other options were available. We used both bars whilst we stayed, again both very good, also excellent Breda beer may I say! Also nice fire in the Rendezvous bar in the evenings with was much needed!
If I stay in Guernsey again I would'nt hesitate to return to the Moores and would highly recommend to anyone. Thanks for an enjoyable stay.

Has Sunday lunch here. What a fantastic value for money lunch it was too. (under £10 each). The room is pubby and comfortable and the staff are helpful and friendly, even though it was very busy. However, the star of the show was the food itself. A typical carvery, the chefs are generous with the meat portions and its help yourself to the rest. just great

Room Tip: Booking is not vital, but don't chance it, book!

Most British people will understand what I am talking about...this is one of those very functional hotels that you really cannot get enthused about (unless you are over 70 - and even then...you are still not likely to be jumping about). Like Ronseal, you use it because it does what it says on the tin - it does a job - period! That is not to say the hotel is bad. I have stayed in many different hotels in my time and this hotel is a long way from bad.

It actually has a number of good points - for example, the rooms are very large and spacious (the suites can readily accommodate a small family), there is free (really fast) wifi, it does a good breakfast, it is very well located whether you are visiting Guernsey for business or leisure and the staff are friendly and helpful. However, like Ronseal, you just don't love it....it is there simply to do a job - to satisfy a need...to provide a temporary bed (and possibly breakfast).

It is hard to love it because as good as those attributes are, there are a number of things really holding this place back. It needs a complete facelift for starters. The decor in some of the rooms left me wondering whether I could sit on the chairs (I had a suite) as they were more like collectors' items than period traditional design...the living area looked like being on the set of “Mad Men” – for those who know the show. Simple things such as loose shower handles and damaged tiles also give an impression of insufficient staff or a hotel that did not strive to excel (you can usually tell when something is a new problem or one that has been left to fester). This all brings me back to my starting point...even though I did not love this hotel, I would stay here again - as it is OK for 3-star and it does not hold itself up as being anything other than that...it does exactly what you expect - by providing OK accommodation in a well-located area. It is a Ronseal…

Dear highimpactuk

Thank you for your review following your recent stay at Moores. I am
pleased that in the main you found things to your liking, the hotel
is indeed ideally located in the heart of St. Peter Port and we
endeavour to cater for a variety of the needs of people visiting the
island. There is an on-going refurbishment programme in place and many of our rooms and two of our other suites have very recently been refurbished, but we take on board your comments about the decor and furniture in the suite you occupied, and are attending to some of the smaller points you mention straight away.

In the meantime, we would thank you for your valued custom and hope to
have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Moores in the not too distant
future.

Assuring you of my best attention at all times.

I am writing this at 02:30 on a Friday morning not being able to sleep. I have a room overlooking the high street and the noise of drunk people in the street is keeping me awake. As it is an old building there is no double glazing as such the sound outside echoes through. On top of this my bedroom wall is paper thin and is on the main corridor so all sounds from inside e ho through again. Note to self AVOID THIS HOTEL...

Dear Rjackson-Jsy

I was very sorry to read that you had such a poor experience staying with us at Moores, and were unable to sleep due to the noise from outside. The hotel has a very central location, and it is a listed building and so far the environment department has refused us permission to install double glazing even of the conservation type in the windows of the main facade. Having said that many of our rooms are located at the rear of the hotel and so are not affected. If you do decide to stay with us in the future please contact me or our General Manger personally so we can ensure we allocate you a quiet room.

This hotel is a real gem and I can recommend it wholeheartedly. Our stay coincided with the worst blizzards to hit the Channel Islands in 30 years, but the staff maintained an excellent level of service in very trying circumstances. Our room was spacious, well-decorated, clean and very comfortable and the bathroom was finished to a high spec . We had requested a quiet room to the rear of the building, and based on other guests' experiences of the Saturday night rowdiness in the street outside (nothing to do with the hotel) I'm glad we did. We didn't take a car, and to be frank it's a waste of money in Guernsey - most places can be reached easily by foot, bike or bus (you can travel all around the island by bus for £1) unless the roads are closed by snow (but this only happens every 30 years!). The hotel is situated in the centre of St Peter Port, within easy walking distance of the ferry and there's nowhere to put a car park so it seems a little unfair to review this negatively as some have done. The food was wonderful, and the service and ambiance in the restaurant and bars such that we didn't bother eating out for the 4 nights of our stay. The service was truly outstanding. We shall certainly be back.

Room Tip: Request a room to the rear of the hotel, as it seems the street outside can be noisy at night. This...
