“not for business travellers”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2011

the main reason I won't return is that the hotel doesn't offer a secure wifi connection. Unlkely as it may be I cannot risk my business information being corrupted or overseen on this kind of connection nor would I expect any serious business traveller to accept this. Also the room in the front overlooks a noisy street and has internal glazing - not double glazing. Otherwise the staff were very happy and friendly, our dinner in the restaurant was excellent but the following night the room service meal had what tasted like dehydrated mash. Nasty. Why would they put that on a plate alongside a well cooked fish?
I would visit the restaurant for a meal but I won't stay there again.

We asked for a quiet room, undisturbed, but without any view. The breakfast was excellent - smoked fish and English was available. The kingsize bed was comfortable and cleanliness good. It also had free wi-fi throughout the hotel. We are staying two nights and will not hesitate recommending this hotel. 4 course dinner at £13.50 pp looked appetizing.

A group of us stayed over Valentine's weekend and had their special Saturday night meal - great desserts and attentive friendly staff. The sauna and jacuzzi were deserted and peaceful. Our room - an upgrade though it was hard to see in what way - had no outlook at all, but was quiet and very clean.

Walk straight out the front door and you're in the town centre, really close to the quay. There's plenty of choice of other places to eat, and the bus terminus is no distance.

Okay, let's put some perspective on this - through work a double room was £52 a night, plus £7 breakfast. You won't get silver service, you won't get Egyptian cotton bed linen, and you won't get Italian marble bathrooms.

But...the staff were friendly, andvlet me check in at half past one. The room was clean. The bathroom was clean. The bed had cotton sheets and several different pillows. There was free wireless. The attached pub was reasonably priced. In fact, I cannot think of anything to criticise the hotel for. The only issue was noisy guests nearby returning to their rooms at 1am, so not the hotels fault.

Great location, just up the hill from the port area.

Would go back in a heart beat.

Indeed, we did! Had a 5 day Christmas break with my husband and sister at this hotel. There was not one aspect of the hotel, room, location, food, staff or service that I could fault in any way. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and staff, the rooms were comfortable, quiet and warm, the bars welcoming, the food absolutely superb, attention had been made to every detail of service and decoration and the whole atmosphere was absolutely lovely, one had the feeling it was a very happy place. A single traveller wouldn't feel at all uncomfortable here.
After Christmas Day, excursions to Herm and around Guernsey were laid on, with superb refreshments during and after, and on two evenings those who wished were transported to sister hotels for race & quiz nights.
Step outside the door and you're in the main shopping street of St Peter Port and only a few hundred yards from the water front, what could be more convenient? We all agreed it was one of the best Christmasses that we had ever had and look forward to to our next visit. If you intend to visit Guernsey, do book in at Moores, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I stay in this Moores hotel twice a year and have done for many years on business and pleasure sometimes taking my wife along as she loves the hotel and Island. When booking they are so helpful and polite and on arrival greet you like long lost friends. My cases are always taken to my room and taken to my car on leaving. I had many a lovely night when Pierre was there but this new team is just fantastic. Dagmar is just too good to be true, Marina an absolute scream and not forgetting Nicky,Martha and Sarina, just a lovely lovely team. It really is a great pleasure staying there and when visiting the island I will stay nowhere else. Can't wait to get there in the spring. They all deserve a medal.

The good bits: great location, lovely breakfast, pretty clean room, work paid the bill. Didn't get woken by any noise just by the fact it was November and I could not get the heating to work and had stupidly left the window open before going out for the evenng,
The bad: the lino in the bathroom had turned black with mould where the over bath shower had leaked. The staff very rather surly. The night porter turned away the pre booked taxi (going to airport) saying I was not in the hotel. Booked a superior room but no shampoo provided although did get a shaving kit and mending kit. Thankfully I was not paying myself or would have been rather upset.
