Rooms were nice and clean. Disappointed with the food at the hotel, 3 out 5 meals came out cold, when sent back the food came back very quickly and still not hot and was also tough. Very disappointing as the food for the attached Oak pub is normally excellent. Health sweet was not cleaned thoroughly.

Dear M4S-13

I was sorry to see from your review that you were disappointed with the meals served to you at Les Rocquettes, and can only apologise. As you quite rightly say the food at the hotel and in the Oak is generally highly praised and the hotel is a very popular choice for islanders eating out. I was also surprised to read your comments that the Health Suite was not thoughly cleaned. The pool and gym are normally sparkling and the changing areas are cleaned and checked regularly too. We restrict the number of Health Club members so that the hotel guests can always avail themselves of the facilities but perhaps whilst you were staying there were many guests and members using the Health Suite and the changing rooms etc then became untidy.

I hope this will not deter you from returning to the hotel in the future.

Yours sincerely

Stayed here on business - Presentable, attractive Hotel with slightly limited parking. Staff very helpful, bar food and restaurant food an acceptable standard but dated, rooms cosy and reasonably well kept. The Hotel though, seems to try and appeal to all people and maybe as a business destination I wasn't too disgruntled but I couldn't help thinking how my family would have reacted if we'd booked this hotel for a holiday break. The first night, a Monday there was a folk singer in the bar and even with the doors shut, her wailing through a magic box that made her sound like several wailing women was unfortunately audible in the far reaches of the empty restaurant where we took refuge from her singing. No escape!! The second night was pub quiz night so the bar unlike Monday was packed making it even more hotel resident unfriendly The music in the restaurant that night suited me - Jazz but irritated my companion. Again no escape from the noise of the pub quiz as it mingled with the background jazz in the restaurant. The third night we'd had enough and walked down the hill into St Peter Port. The bar showed constant football on a couple of large televisions which appears to suit 95% of blokes but not their wives (or me)! Somehow Rocquettes fails to charm and falls short of its potential by trying to appeal to everyone. I wouldn't use Rocquettes as a holiday hotel and for that matter wouldn't use it again for business, looking for something altogether more restful and relaxing - a hotel more like a hotel and not a sports bar pub!

Dear Harold_Worth
I was pleased to see from your review that you found the hotel presentable, and the rooms cosy and the food reasonably to your liking. I am sorry to see that your stay was spoiled by the music and the quiz which were held in the bar and function room. As it happens, the young lady singer whose vocals did not appeal to you, is the daughter of some long standing hotel guests and she performs in the UK fronting a band and as a soloist. Although her performance was not to your taste as a result of her singing that evening she was invited to perform at next year's Sark Folk Festival. That was a one off performance - very occasionally we host Jazz or Acoustic bands and generally they are popular with our hotel guests as well as our local customers. With regard to the pub quiz we run these for 6 weeks on one evening a week in the winter into spring. I am sorry that you did not enjoy the football but as you quite rightly say it pleases many of the gentlemen in the bar, and many of our business guests are pleased to dine in a bar that buzzes with life and atmosphere. There are many quiet corners at Les Rocquettes - the Mulberry lounge where you can enjoy a quiet drink or coffee and the spacious Atrium which links the old and new wing. Perhaps on a future stay in Guernsey you might like to try our sister hotel, Best Western Hotel de Havelet which has a choice of two good restaurants and a charming old world bar.
Sincerely yours

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The food was excellent, especially the breakfast - a huge choice and perfectly cooked. We found our room comfortable with tea and coffee replenished daily. Everywhere was very clean, always plenty of hot water and radiators to turn up if needed. We did have one problem when work was carried out on scaffolding outside our window which we were not notified about, but this was resolved amicably. Although fairly central there was a courtesy bus into the main area which we used on a couple of occasions. It would have been nice to have been able to stay longer.

This was my first trip to Guernsey, and, because of this hotel, will not be my last. The customer service I found was excellent, the team were always polite and helpful with a smile on their faces. Having worked in the leisure industry myself for the past 7 years (Butlins), I think I am qualified to give that recommendation. The food was definately well worth the trip, again excellent..in presentation, choice of mains, and in the eating. The fitness suite was relaxing, didn't do the weights-just the jacuzzi. The only glitch was the TV reception in the room (but who wants to watch tv when on holiday).
Well Done to you and I shall definitely be staying with you again.

Sadly I will be using less of this hotel in future and that is a shame. I agree that has a one off stay it would score much higher but if you are on business and planning on staying several nights over a longer period of time look elsewhere is my advice;

The Good - very friendly and helpful staff, reasonable value pricewise, breakfast good

The Bad - room service has declined markedly in terms of quality of food, little or no alternative to chips and something, basic menu unchanged in 2 years little variety. Quilts in bedroom leave you feeling like you have been buried under rubble they weigh that much. The maids must look they are auditioning for Miss Universe lugging them about all year.

The Ugly - quite simply the WI FI which I think is being run by someones pet mouse. If you are in a room above main reception its ok, but if your anywhere else it doesnt work, dont even try.

A few tweaks and it would be better than average.

Room Tip: Book a room in the 300's if you require good WI FI. If stayin over the weekend ask for a room...

Dear Spandex
Thank you for taking time to post a review as we value all our guests' feeback, and are eager to "tweak" things where possible.

Firstly, very glad to read your positive comments concerning the helpful, friendly staff and that you feel the hotel represents good value pricewise.

With regard to the room service issue we are a little puzzled as the full Oak menu is available for room service and this includes many dishes not including fries, however, the new menu is in development and will be rolled out in the next few months.

Turning to the "wifi" - it is not powered by any small animals, but we are aware that the service is not meeting all our guests expectations and we are planning to put in cabling shortly which will improve the complimentary service.

We hope you will come back and stay with us again in the future.
Yours sincerely

What to say... Well staff are excellent, rooms are excellent and the facillities, food and cleanliness are all excellent! The rooms appear to have recently been done up with new little things like, new beds curtains and bathroom accesories and taps, plus all the TVs have been wall mounted. The bathroom has been kept the same but it was already very modern looking and expensive sanitaryware ( villeroy&boch) which is not worth replacing until it becomes unfunctional. The staff are lovely and the food is amazing! The cleaners do an excellent job and everything is always kept beautiful. The health suite is definetely something to rave about and is probably one of the best on the island! Town is not too close but at the same time it is not too far away. There is a bus stop right outside which is always useful.

Faultless hotel, good food, great pool ,with extras, nice touch to see shower gel in changing rooms ,and plastic bags to take wet stuff back to room. Bed room was clean and well serviced. The oak bar has quite a good menu, but tended to be busy at times. Breakfast was large and hot. All the staff were polite and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Would not bother to stay anywhere else as this hotel as said is faultless!!!!-

Room Tip: Standard rooms are good. Stayed at rear, no noise at all.
