“Eclectic - from Renaissance to Arts and Crafts”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

We didn't know much about Hugo the man and so a guided tour of the house was just what we needed, to gain some sense of what influenced his writing. The guide was excellent. Gothic, Arts and Crafts, Belgian tapestries, Chinoiserie, Venetian glass ... it's all here and more.

“Real insight into life of Hugo”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

As the decorations installed personally by Victor Hugo remain in place, a tour of the Hauteville House gives a real insight into the life and mind of the author. The guides were very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about Hugo. This was more than a tour of a nice house where a famous person lived, but rather an intimate visit into the personal life where Hugo lived and worked for almost 15 years.

“very interesting”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

The first thing you need to do is book a slot to be showed around, you cannot get in unless you book. We saw quite a few sight seers disappointed that they couldn't go in. It is very well organised by volunteers, who are passionate about this place. It belongs to the people of Paris now and is as it was when Victor Hugo lived there. It takes about 45 minutes to go around and is an extraordinary insight into the life of Victor Hugo. There are a few flights of stairs and no lifts so if climbing stairs is difficult it may be problematic.

“Do not miss this”

An amazing insight to the life of Victor Hugo. Reservations a must as the tours are limited to small groups. Absolutely incredible. Not open year round so check their website for opening months,
