You have to book your tour which lasts about one hour. Our guide was very knowledgable but if you are hard of hearing or very young you may struggle with the strong French accent. I though it added a lot of flavour.
The house is fascinating as VH was clearly a very creative man beyond his literary works. His interior design was quirky and verges on the bizarre so is a definite must see for anyone visiting St Peter Port. He certainly knew how to choose a good location, the views from his 'office' are stunning.
Allow time to walk around the garden (which we weren't told about but saw people in it) which is accessed though a passage to the left of the house. It closes at 5pm so if you take the 4pm tour you only get a few minutes to look around.

I first visited this house thirty years ago and still had many memories of it. It did not disappoint on our recent visit. Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about Hugo as a writer and a person. Our visit felt unhurried and there was plenty of time to absorb the atmosphere of the house and it's contents. It really is a magical place and it is wonderful that you are allowed to take photographs as an enduring memory

This beautifully preserved house belonged to Victor Hugo when he resided in Guernsey for a few years. It is now looked after and owned by the city of Paris who provide the guides. The gardens are also excellent and well looked after. Well worth a visit.

If you are a fan of Victor Hugo, you will love this. You need to reserve, we were lucky to get in. It was a very good tour, very informative. Some of the rooms were very quirky. Dark and heavy downstairs and then light and airy as you go up the flights. The views from the house are magnificent.
