You have to book your tour which lasts about one hour. Our guide was very knowledgable but if you are hard of hearing or very young you may struggle with the strong French accent. I though it added a lot of flavour.
The house is fascinating as VH was clearly a very creative man beyond his literary works. His interior design was quirky and verges on the bizarre so is a definite must see for anyone visiting St Peter Port. He certainly knew how to choose a good location, the views from his 'office' are stunning.
Allow time to walk around the garden (which we weren't told about but saw people in it) which is accessed though a passage to the left of the house. It closes at 5pm so if you take the 4pm tour you only get a few minutes to look around.
