“Wonderful evening”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2013

The food at The Conservatory is really excellent and incredibly cheap for the quality that you get. It's clear that they are proud to serve good wine, as the wine list was very good and our waitor got very enthusiastic when we ordered the Alsace Gerwurtz. We were also impressed by the menu, which although doesn't have a huge choice each time, changes daily so you can pick a day which appeals to you - I would imagine this means that the head chef has a lot of say over what gets put on the menu, which is always a good sign.
Although my main course was lovely, the highlight of the meal for me was the dessert - warm dark chocolate truffle tart with marmalade ice cream which was absolutely delicious. You can tell that the ingredients in the food are very fresh and high quality, and everything was cooked wonderfully.
The decor inside is also lovely and I liked how, as a couple, we were placed away from the large tables in the middle of the room (although it was pretty quiet the night we went anyway).
Lastly, I must stress again how insanely good value this restaurant is - you can have 2 or 3 courses of the highest quality for the price that you'd pay for one mediocre one elsewhere! Highly recommended, we would definitely visit again.

“Fabulous Meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2013

This was my personal favourite of the restaurants we visited in St Peter Port.

The menu changes daily, with the menus of the current and next day up outside, so it's worth keeping an eye on to see which day's menu takes your fancy. The menu is also amazingly cheap, but rest assured that the quality is extremely high!

The food was absolutely excellent; I had a duck confit starter, which was the best duck I have ever tasted, followed by an absolutely gorgeous wood pigeon and quail main course and an equally delicious baked alaska for dessert.

I can't fault the service here; the waiters were friendly and the serving prompt but not rushed; it was a very relaxing experience.

Also to be commended is their wine list. We chose a lovely Alsace Gewurz and were not at all disappointed!

The atmosphere is airy and characterful and definitely contributes to the overall extremely enjoyable experience of dining here.

Many of the reviews here seem to be about the Hideaway cafe next door, which, while also run by the hotel, is a seperate entity.

I'd thoroughly recommend this restaurant!

“Refurbished”

The café/restaurant has been refurbished and it looks lovely. The cakes are amazing and you are always given a warm welcome. I also like the fact that there are tables outside on the terrace, which is lovely in the summer

“Not somewhere I would recommend”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2013

The staff were somewhat abrupt and verging on rude, we waited upwards of an hour for our food and when it did arrive it was cold. The staff the all but disappeared and we were left drinkless, having finished them waiting for our dinner to arrive. We then asked for the bill, but instead were bought the desert menus and ended up calling the waiter over 4 times below the bill finally appeared. Thoroughly unimpressed.
