“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 27 October 2012

After travelling to Guernsey to attend a family wedding, what a pleasure to find such a warm and welcoming hotel. Sadly the weather isn't great but all rooms are warm and spacious. The staff have proved to equally warm and welcoming with nothing being too much trouble. Would certainly recommend this hotel for both couples and families. It has great facilities including indoor swimming pool. The restaurant has superb views and the food is wonderful. All in all a great hotel.

Gennaro and staff get full marks for excellent, friendly, helpful service. We had booked a one week stay but due to fog conditions were forced to stay an extra three nights. We were fortunate that this hotel had rooms available for the extra nights as bed very comfortable with choice of pillows and, although a B rated room, it was very clean, spacious and well equiped. We advise taking the offered island bus tour which is enjoyable and Sam the bus driver is full of information about the island. Several people have mentioned the steep hill however the mini bus does run into town three times a day. Restaurant is very good and again the staff could not be faulted, all do an excellent job. The choices at breakfast have something to please everyone. I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return again in better weather!

Room Tip: Our B rated room was on the top floor with no lift, but fine for us. It was quiet, well equipped and...

last week 3 of us enjoyed the 'tennerfest' lunch meal! Though now £12.50 it was a very good meal we all agreed!
A generous portion of moules to start-was wonderful for me! As a visitor from the Uk Midlands a real treat ! Beef Bourgoine (spelling) was nicely served with small slices of toast! Again well served! A chocolate torte to finish was naughty but soooo good!

As they were not that busy the waiter from abroad hat time to chat to us all as well !

Had a delightful salad-plate lunch one day and returned for a 'Tennerfest' dinner following evening. Both very good, with a good choice of dishes for the dinner and attentive staff. Didn't stay so cannot rate the rooms but would presume of the same quality.

excellent stay at this lovely hotel overlooking Havelet Bay in St. Peter Port. The hotel is up a hill that we didn't attempt to walk but only because my mother in law doesn't walk so well. However, once in the hotel grounds the views are worth the hill climb.Breakfast was taken in the upstairs restaurant with excellent views to the castle and Herm which is a view that changes with the tides. We worried that the restaurant was not attached to the hotel and as it was raining I was going back for my brolly but we were thrilled to learn that the restaurant could be reached through a tunnel connecting the hotel and the restaurant/bar block. Really novel way to get to breakfast. And then I come onto the staff. Wow, what great staff and nothing was too much trouble, even to the extent of the receptionist guiding mother in law through the gardens looking for a Guernsey Lily. Waiting staff were fabulous and again nothing was too much trouble. The manager took time to check that everyone in the restaurant was happy and was often in reception asking if everything was ok. Reading tripadvisor reviews I saw that the hotel did minibus tours of the island and when we arrived I checked the days and was pleased to learn that we could have the last 2 seats on the Tuesday minibus. This was a great way to see the island and Sam the driver was very knowledgeable about the island and lots of fun to travel with. The trip takes about 4 hours and you see all of the interesting parts of the island with Sam giving a running commentary full of jokes and anecdotes. Definitely a good way to spend an afternoon. the bus service on the island is excellent with jouneys costing £1 to go all the way round the island and the taxis were reasonably priced too. We stayed half board which was a good idea as it rained most evenings and it was nice not to have to trawel round St Peter Port looking for restaurants. The food was excellent and we messed around with every menu asking for different starters, main courses and desserts off different menues. Again, this was not problem for the staff. Have to stop writing as I could spend all evening telling everyone how great this place is to stay. Mother in law is very well travelled and has been all round the world but her parting comment was that hotel had the best staff of any hotel she had ever stayed in. Praise indeed.

Room Tip: room 29 has dark furniture and dark curtains so if the sun wasn't shining it was a bit dark.

We arrived 26th.September for a 4 day break,9th(this being our 9th.visit) as a birthday special for my wife. The reception staff gave us a warm welcome again & provided us with an excellent room. The pool &spa were well used by myself, the facilities were clean & maintained to a high standard. We dined in the Welly Boot restaurant, with all menus giving good choice with presentation & quality to a fine level. We used the courtesy mini bus into town, the driver a very cheerful pleasant man.The hotel has a very pleasant & relaxing atmosphere, well managed with very positive & attentive staff throughout. We wish that all 3star hotels were of the De Havelet standard.

Like many before, we choose this after seeing TA reviews. Not disappointed.Good location to get into Town if you are fit enough to walk 15 minutes back up a quite steep incline. Original room 20 was too warm for our liking so at our request were moved to room 28, much cooler with better view. No trouble to do this which was nice. Lovely meals at reasonable prices. Town has lots of choice to eat with bargains if you are prepared to eat before 19.00 especially. Spa was good. Staff particularly helpful, efficient and friendly overall. Very clean throughout the Hotel. Useful to have free access to internet access via their own computer free of charge. Other guests were nice and quiet and we all seemed to be tucked in bed by 23.00. I would guess not to be recommended for younger travellers unless they wanted to stand out. Special mention of Sam who drives and comments on Guernsey free Hotel tour. Try to get on this early so you can perhaps plan later individual visits to spots of interest. Great week and felt very relaxed at the end. Thanks everyone
