“fabulous boutique hotel and restaurant”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last few year both as a couple and with our young daughter even a as baby. The hotel has fabulous sea view from all of its spacious rooms that have luxury clean and unfussy décor.
The restaurant food is the best I've had on Guernsey or for that matter anywhere and it I always full of local clients. There are also wonderful view from the restaurant and terrace.
I cannot fault the staff and service in any way - even in a hotel not especially geared to families they could not be more helpful. On one occasion the Maitre D even entertained our wide awake 9 month old so we could eat our meal when it arrived.
Location is close to town and financial services whilst being tucked away and off the main roads. The only issue could be for those with impaired mobility given the stairs and steeply terraced gardens. It may also not be so easy to locate by car and access is narrow if you are unfamiliar.

Room Tip: All double room are fabulous with wonderful views. All (I believe) have balconies. Deluxe room are n...

In an ideal location overlooking the harbour at St. Peter's Port, the deluxe bedrooms have spectacular views of the harbour and Herm. The hotel was spotless and the food was excellent and consistent all week. A few minutes walk and you are in the Town and close to catching the ferries to Herm and Sark.

Everything about this hotel was first class. The location overlooking the harbour and a short walk from the town must put it in one of the best locations in St Peter Port. We had a de luxe room in the new wing with a balcony looking out to Herm. It was large, well serviced and extremely clean and comfortable.
The dining room overlooking the harbour was light and welcoming and the food superb all fresh produce and beautifully served. The small bar area and terrace were just right for an aperitif.
All the above would have made a great stay but it was elevated by the exceptional staff. They were all polite, charming and nothing was too much trouble.
My top tip is that as then hotel is difficult to find by car would be to phone the hotel who will mail you directions. If we hadn't of picked up on other comments then we may still be driving around looking for it!!

Room Tip: A room in the new wing with balcony on top two floors. The lower floor not such good views as lower...

We had not visited the restaurant for about ten years and we went on this occasion because we were invited to a dinner for a group of about thirty plus people. All the food was beautifully cooked, the portions were very generous and the food was presented well. My husband had fillet steak for the main course and I had local sea bass, both were of a high quality. Our crab and smoked salmon starter melted in the mouth and the apple tarte was worthy of France. The staff wre friendly and attentive and not concerned at having to serve a largish party a very varied menu. We were not paying for ourselves, but it saw the price of the menu and it was by no means cheap, but it was very special. We were not staying at the hotel, so we can't comment from first hand knowledge of the rooms.

We chose this hotel from afar and stayed for three nights. My wife and I can say it was one of the best stays we have had in other 20 years of travelling around the world. It had everything one wanted - large comfortable room, good bed, air conditioning and a great view coupled with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good and the room had tea/coffee making facilities. Nothing to add to the other comments apart from the fact that finding the hotel by car can be an interesting experience. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Only stayed at this hotel for one night, en route to the nearby island of Herm. The hotel was excellent, with stunning views from the rooms and restaurant.

Our room was in the newer wing of the hotel with a balcony. The room was huge and had everything you could want in a hotel room.

Breakfast was excellent and was unusually all waiter service - no self-serve buffet. The evening meal was excellent, if a little pricy. Our three course meal, with a couple of drinks, came to exactly £100.

If I was visiting St Peter Port again, I would gladly stay at La Fregate, although the walk through the gardens down to the town wouldn't be suitable for those unsure on their feet.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaward facing room with balcony.

Having eaten at La Fregate several times, we were not disappointed last week when I took a party of eight for dinner.

The food, as ever, was really top end. Is a Michelin Star in the offing?

Combined with such a high level of service, the evening was perfect. Maybe this is the best restaurant o the Island. We'll certainly be back.

Finally, thank you Simon (Manager) for the help with my disabled brother-in-law.
