Great hotel. Nothing was to much trouble. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location for shopping and for catching a bus to see the rest of the island. The food was amazing, especially the breakfast!! The most important meal of the day and they have got it nailed. The room was great as well. Very comfortable with a modern decor and all the accessories you will ever need. Will be returning again soon and will definately recommend to everyone.

The title states the basic facts. We were VERY comfortable, the food was tasty and straightforward, and the staff and management were charming and helpful. We felt very welcome.
The hotel owns the old-fashioned pub next door, where the company of locals and the large screen television produce a convivial atmosphere, but this does not make the actual hotel noisy.

Room Tip: The room in the photograph is 46, which we occupied. It can be a large double bed or a twin room. Th...

Ate here on holiday, went in the afternoon to book a table and checked the menu. Arrived at the booked time to find that we had been shown the menue from the day before, the waiter spoke little English and could not understand what we wanted to order and so I went to the reception to explain. To give them credit, the person on the reception did ring the kitchen to ask if we could have what we wanted from the days before main course and that is what we got. The place was empty for a Friday night and people on the next table were also not impressed as they left after one course. I will not be eatin there again.

After a brisk walk from the ferry we found the Duke of Normadie up a little side road off the main shopping street. What a super location with its own courtyard outside seating area and small car park. We were offered room 27 which was at the very top of this old building and involved several sets of stairs and narrow corridors (there is no lift), This room was quite small but well-furnished in modern decor but was so hot I had to go and borrow a fan (no air-con). There was no view apart from overlooking the extract fans for the kitchen and plus the heat this made us go down to reception and ask for a change of room. The manager was very helpful and apologetic and offered us room 21 which although it was not much bigger and still had no view we accepted as it was better laid-out and less likely be noisy - and it was also much cooler though we did keep the fan! The manager apologised for any inconvenience and very generously offered us a free dinner with wine which we kindly accepted - and a very good meal it was too. The room had a comfortable double bed/tea/coffee facilities/iron/safe /TV and a smart efficient bathroom with a good shower over the bath. Plenty of towels;toiletries and hot water. There was a chest of drawers and a wardrobe (although the hangers were very high up!!). Breakfast was a buffet with cereals;juices and fresh fruit and we enjoyed eggs benedict for a change from the usual bacon and eggs etc. There is a bar at the rear of the hotel which is used by guests and locals alike. The TV was on for Euro2012 and the bar is decorated with a mix of old and new timbers and furnniture - quite pleasant. The hotel offers a left luggage facility so we were able to enjoy a full last day without carrying our bags around town. Magazines;guides and maps are available and we found the whole place very good indeed. Recommended.

Room Tip: You could try and get a room overlooking the courtyard - not sure if they are more expensive but see...

Staff are amazing. Rooms are great and spacious. The garden is a real sun trap and pleasant place to enjoy a summer afternoon drink.

Our room over looked the courtyard. The decor is funky -modern and the bathroom huge. The hotel was very close to the main shopping street and then down some steps to the esplanade. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the breakfast very nice. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: If you have trouble carrying luggage upstairs ask for a ground floor room as the spiral staircase up...
