“Lovely hotel in central location”
Reviewed 21 July 2012

I recently took my parents on a trip to Guernsey and we spent 5 days touring the island. I can honestly say that this is a lovely, well maintained hotel with great rooms and breakfast but most of all the location is fantastic ! It is v central in St Peter Port but it is tucked away, v quiet but has a great pub ( with good pub grub ) on site. The bedrooms are lovely, the breakfast is gorgeous and the staff could not be more welcoming. A lovely hotel in a great location and good for all ages as a base to explore a lovely island ! As a tip, don't hire a car, get the great bus service at a pound a trip and explore on a budget and make sure you visit the Fermain Beach cafe - get a bus to the end of the steep road down to the beach - it's worth it ! I would recommend this hotel !!

This is a 3 star hotel that behaves like a 4 star. The staff were professional, helpful and friendly.
The hotel is ideally located in a small courtyard a hundred metres or so off the main street. (be aware, it is a short sharp climb to get to it - but so is most of the town!!) Close to everything but away from the noise!
Our room was clean, fresh and comfortable and had all conveniences. The bed was large and comfy. The shower was fantastic!!!! Big fluffy towels. Complimentary bathrobes.
Our booking stated we could check in at 2pm, but we arrived early and they made our room available for us a little after noon. The included breakfast was delcious and served quickly and pleasantly.
The only criticism I can think of is that my companion complained the light in the bathroom was poor for applying make-up.
I would certainly consider this hotel again when I stay in St Peter P as it ticked all the boxes, my only hesitation in awarding it a full excellent is I feel it was just very slighly overpriced for what it is.

Room Tip: we had room 37 which is ground level annexe and it was great. just note that there is no lift to the...

Location: St Peter Port

Hotel: nice hotel in the centre of town

Surrounding: St Peter Port is the capital of Guernsey. Duke of Normandie hotel is almost in the centre, just a few steps from the main street and harbour. There you find shops, restaurants, bars. Hotel has own carpark.

Accomodation: is nice, clean and comfortable.

Breakfast: buffet style. There´s cold buffet wit cereals, cheese and ham and then you can order hot, typicall English breakfast.

Food: hotel has own restaurant but we didn´t eat there. We visited Da Nello restaurant in the centre and it was really good.

Services: restaurant, bar, carpark

Staff: helpful

Advantages of this hotel:
- comfortable hotel in the city centre
- comfortable and nice accomodation

What you can do there:
- trips in the town and also on the island. Bus stop is cca 5 minutes by foot from the hotel.

Our opinion:if you want nice, comfortable hotel in the city centre, Duke of Normandie hotel is a very good choice. But if you would like to see all island, better choice are hotels outside of the capital. Most of them have own garden, swimming pool and nice surrounding.

Small friendly staff , run by the owner ,comfortable rooms , excellent "hot " English breakfasts! The Pub attached had a good selection of beers and great bar menus , good value and well presented. Centrally placed for town and buses which at a pound per trip ,either round the island or just up the road ,really good value . Everyone we met in St Peter Port were helpful and friendly ,coming from a seaside town on the South coast that was refreshing.
A good Chinese meal at "China Red " recommended by reception ,expensive but good value. Castle Cornet a good day out .

We stayed here for three nights in June. The hotel is very central but difficult to find when you come by car due to the one way system. We arrived as it was getting dark and knew we were near, so phoned the hotel and someone was with us in minutes and showed us into the car park. Really helpful! Once you made the trip once it is easy after that.
The room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was especially good with the hot breakfast cooked to order. Eggs Benedict was especially good. Nice local bar within the hotel and you can walk to most places of interest in St.Peter Port.

I booked Duke of Normandie for its reasonable price and fantsastic location in the heart of things. But while this hotel is great on both counts, it also surpassed my expectations and really worked out over a 6 night stay. The food in the restaurant and room service is excellent and all the staff were unfailingly pleasant anywhere you came across them. I'd like to mention the restaurant staff Rhoy and Christine in particular.

My room was one of the smaller rooms since it had been the only one available at the time of booking but it worked out too. The bed was a pocket sprung variety so was more comfortable than most hotel beds in the UK. The window had double glazing so surprisingly I wasn't bothered by the bar noise from below. I'd certuainly recommend this hotel highly if you're staying in St Peter Port.

Room Tip: This is a boutique hotel so try and get as big a room as you can.

Great hotel. Nothing was to much trouble. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location for shopping and for catching a bus to see the rest of the island. The food was amazing, especially the breakfast!! The most important meal of the day and they have got it nailed. The room was great as well. Very comfortable with a modern decor and all the accessories you will ever need. Will be returning again soon and will definately recommend to everyone.
