“Good room, good location, great service”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

Arrived late in the evening to a warm welcome and an open kitchen. Food was very very good at every meal. Service impeccable. Even down to chasing me when I had left to let me know I had left some medication. Very unusual in my experience.
Car park in the middle of the courtyard was no problem. Very quiet. Room was fashionably dressed and spotless. Shower was hot, and bed was very comfortable - every travellers dream. Laundry was cheap and quick. Was done within hours. Hire car was organised and delivered to the door, very reasonable rates.
Absolutely no complaints. Would recommend to anyone visiting the island.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room if you have heavy bags or are mobility challenged.

First impression of the building is not particularly impressive but wait until you meet the staff. They are friendly and helpful and seem to genuinely care for your well being. The hotel is in an excellent position in St Peter Port with only 75 yards walk to the hight street. This does not mean noise and hustle but a steady stroll down the hill into the centre of the main town. If you visit Guernsey with the intention of seeing as much of the island as possible then it is wise to stay in. St Peter Port as this is where the buses and taxis and boats are most readily available.
The rooms are comfortable and clean with small but adequate bathrooms. Breakfast is delicious and cooked to order from an inviting menu.
The restaurant offers a good dinner menu and is reasonable priced, in fact, less expensive and better quality food and service than other restaurants we sampled in the town. Try it.
Wifi is free and had a good signal in the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a downstairs room if walking is an issue as some of the upstairs rooms are access by iron sp...

Recommend this hotel to anyone staying in St. Peter Port. Room was tastefully decorated and bed extremely comfortable. Plumbing was a little noisy at times but did not detract from an enjoyable stay! Breakfast was very tasty ! The staff were very helpful and courteous . A most enjoyable visit!

Accommodation excellent, Food was of a very high standard and found the staff extremely helpful and polite. The hotel was well signposted so easy to find although a bit of a trek up the hill to get here, but well worth the effort

I love this hotel. The owners and staff are all very welcoming. The rooms are to a very high standard. Parking is limited so I'd advise to get there early if you need parking.

I've not eaten in the bar but the food looks to be of a high standard and it's always busy.

We stayed at the hotel on half board basis for 4 nights and we were very happy with everything. Our room was clean and compact although we had to have the lights on most of the time as it was a little dark! Soft bed and 4 peaceful nights sleep.
Service at breakfast and in the restaurant was first class and Paul and Dorina were most helpful and attentive? We'll done Alan in the bar for a cheery welcome.
The food was excellent, the breakfast menu was full of everything, fruit, pastries, juices and an enormous English cooked breakfast with plenty of toast . Alternatives like Eggs Benedict, smoked Haddock and a poach egg on top of bubble and squeak!
Dinner was excellent although the specials were repeated during our stay. I can recommend the crab starter, pork cutlet and whatever sweet you fancy.
Magical stay taking in Herm Island and Sark Island which are not to be missed.
Good location for St Peter Port and parking on site if you get there early.
Would we go back to the DofNH - you bet! Excellent!!

Never in our long experience of hotel stays have we ever met a more welcoming and helpful hotel staff from the general managers Alan and Aine through the receptionists, the wait and bar staff to the housekeepers. They were all excellent. We spent two weeks at the hotel while my wife was doing research for the fourth book in her mystery series set in Guernsey. The quiet and peaceful ambience of the Duke of Normandie was perfect for that purpose.

Food in the hotel's 200 year old bar and the restaurant was excellent in quality and presentation. The hotel is blessed with a first class and creative chef. Guernsey friends we entertained in the Brasserie, the hotel's restaurant, had never eaten there before and we delighted by the quality of the meal. The wine list is also excellent and both food and wines are very reasonably priced.

It was important for both of us to maintain our business contacts while in Guernsey. Unfortunately there were problems with our Surface RT tablet in regard to webmail. Not the fault of the hotel's Wi-Fi system I hasten to add. The hotel lent us a lap-top computer so that we could maintain our communications. Again a service above our expectations.

All in all a wonderful experience that we hope to repeat in the not too far distant future.

Room Tip: We were happy with our courtyard room away from the main body of the hotel. It was very quiet and pr...
