“The Yacht Pub”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

I arrived in the morning to find the pub shuttered up so wandered around the port for a few hours.
The pub opened at noon and Andy the owner was very pleasant and helpful in getting my suitcase carried up 3 steep flights of narrow stairs.
My room was a double facing the harbour but unfortunately the bus station is in-between.
The bathroom was newly renovated and had a shower but no shelves or hooks. The plumbing made quite a noise and the shower was slow to drain.
The bed had a thin mattress and the wardrobe doors slid open due to the uneven flooring.
This is a pub with a few rooms above the bar in a rather unattractive stretch of harbour front.
At 150 pounds a night it was over priced with not a lot to offer. WIFI worked somewhat but no
phones in the rooms and no one around overnight as far as I could tell.

Room Tip: If you have to stay here, take the front room over looking the harbour and castle.

The hotel is situated across the road from the harbour, with its ferry piers, bus station and shopping all within easy walking distance. Car parking is also not a problem.
I had opted for a back room (to avoid any traffic noise from the road) so I had no view, but this did not concern me. The facilities were very satisfactory - in common with so many older British-type establishments, there were several stairs and doors to negotiate - I enjoy the quirkiness of such places, but definitely not suited for wheel-chairs
Breakfast was a good average standard. I did not eat any other meals there but enjoyed trying out several of the surrounding restaurants, again within walking distance. The owner and his staff were friendly and informative. The bar seems a popular place for meeting locals.
I can warmly recommend the Yacht Inn.

Room Tip: The quietest rooms are at the back, and have no view. However, when I was there, (out of high season...

This is maybe a 3 star hotel. Which is why it is priced as a 3 star hotel, perhaps. The nicest thing is the view, which looks right out onto the harbour. And, the shower was quite nice.

But there were some problems and weaknesses to the place- When we arrived at 9:05pm reception was closed,no contact information was provided and we were forced to find another hotel for the night. But to be fair, their listed reception closing time is 9, and they seemed genuinely apologetic the next day, gave a refund. The hotel is a bit dank, claustrophobia-inducing. Its small in a noncosy way. The bed was not very comfortable.

But, the bar downstairs is quite nice. The room is actually quite well priced for the view. We stayed at a modest place, a 2,star hotel the night before which did it's job at £50, this place at £75 was about that much better. The next night we went to Duke of Richmond which is a true 4 Star hotel, and memorable, but was twice the price of the yacht inn.

We appreciate the problem you had and once again we can only apologise. From this issue we have changed our procedures so the problem you encountered hopefully will not happen again.

There is a lot of confusion about our rating. We are rated as a 4 star Inn which is totally different to a 4 star hotel. The Inn classification is similar to guest accommodation rather than a hotel.

We hope this helps clarify our rating.

I stayed at The Yacht just for one night whilst on a business trip to the Islands. I had not stayed in The Yacht before, but was fed up with the single 'boxes' I have had to put up with in moderately priced hotels on the island.
The reviews on TA said the rooms were a good size, and mine was nice and a large. It had a good sized bed and everything you could need, plus an amazing harbour view.
Check in is at the bar ( fine by me) and breakfast is quite basic, but it is fantastic value for money, and in a great location. The bar looked good early evening too.
One thing I would like to see is the main stair carpet cleaned. It gave a bad impression on arrival, sadly, but this is a small and easily remedied thing. Recommended.

We had a 48 hour pass from the kids and snuck away to Guernsey. Having been before I was sure to book a hotel "on the flat" as many of the hotels are UP a steep hill. The Yacht Inn is right on the quay, so no problems there. (Though it is on several floors - starting on the 3rd - so be prepared to climb a few steps)
The room overlooked the marina, was spacious and immaculate. The bed huge and very comfortable, the on-suite was cleaner and bigger than my bathroom at home - we felt in luxury.
(could do with black out curtains behind the new beautiful drapes)
Nowhere in Guernsey is cheap to stay at - these guys have made a great job to bring a clean hotel within budget and provide the loveliest breakfast (fantastic coffee)
We arrived on the 9.00am ferry and they were happy and willing to store our bags for the day until our room was ready (from 2.00)
They were also very kind to recommend the BEST ever restaurant to us - but that's another review

Right on the harbour front, beautiful views of the castle. The only issues I had was walking into a bar early evening to get my room key as it wasn't obvious where the door / reception for the hotel was ( up on the first floor ).
The room was very spacious, lovely clean bathroom. Few areas that could be improved on with the carpet and general decoration looking a bit tired and no blinds at the window that was overlooked by what looked like an office opposite.

The breakfast room had a lovely view and the waitress was attentive. Not enough choice of juices as I don't like orange juice nothing else available apart from water and it was tepid. Could have done with another couple of choices of cereal as well.

Apart from that staff were very welcoming and friendly. Would stay again if I visit Guernsey.

Room Tip: Ask for seafront if you can afford it as the view is great.
