Stayed here for one week 12th - 19th June, 2010 in one of the apartments. We were very comfortable, but the decorative order was that of the 1960's. Needs an update, but everything was spotlessly clean and lashings of hot water. Small kitchen but well equiped.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the grounds and gardens and swimming pool area were atmospherically grand. All in all a good holiday for us and plenty of room to relax around the place if wished. Would recommend it to a friend, if they realised how nice it was, but the Ritz it isn't.

When I first arrived at the Grange Lodge I was greated by a friendly receptionist. I thought to myself that this was a good start. The room was of a reasonable size and was well maintained. Meal's were of good quality. All in all, I had a very enjoyable few day's stay. I would recommend this hotel to friends!

Was going to stay here ( visiting elderly relatives ) as this was nearest self catering place. Due to the volcanic ash, couldnt fly in, and the management couldnt care less.
They were only concerned to keep the fee for the apartment.
They could not have been more unhelpful.

We booked in for a weeks self catering which commenced on the Saturday and had to stay in B&B on arrival for one night - which was good. Excellent reception staff and all appeared well - on switching to one of the self-catering cottages on the Saturday, all our nightmares were realised - dated decor, smelled fousty and damp and my wife refused to even sit on the settee. We didn't stay! The redeeming feature was the hotel receptionist who couldn't have done more to help and although she couldn't offer an alternative in the hotel, did help us locate somewhere else.

We have just got back from a 2 night stay at The Grange Lodge - For £80 per room per night I would have expected staff that were able to smile (in fairness the bar staff were very friendly, it was those in the hotel who were rude with the exception of one waitress whose English was very poor and couldn't bring me any hot water but at least she was trying!). Our shower only worked for a minute or so at a time before the pressure dropped to a dribble then stopped completely and this was not fixed when I informed the staff. We did not receive an apology either. The part of the shower that alters the pressure just came off in your hand when you tried to turn it.

The double rooms are actually 2 single beds pushed together, which is really annoying and they have two single quilts.

The decor is old and tired and looks like it hasn't been touched since the 1970s.

The breakfast was appalling - cheap meat sausages, under-cooked bacon and beans with funny lumpy bits in the juice. The toast was ok though.

The only redeeming feature is the guest house's gardens - They are very nice and well kept.

All in all a terrible place to stay compared with similar priced hotels. Very poor customer service in the hotel, however the service is much better in the bar.

This is my fourth time staying at The Grange Lodge Hotel for business and I have to say I would not stay anywhere else. It may not be your ultra super modern flash hotel, but its charm and friendliness more than makes up for it. I find it very welcoming and homely.

The rooms are clean, staff are helpful and breakfast is good. The staff in the bar are really welcoming and the bar food is ok. The garden is beautifully kept and there is an outdoor swimming pool which is lovely.

Overall, this hotel is dated in terms of decor and could do with a spruce up, but the relaxed atmosphere, charm, friendliness and good service far outweigh this. Rates are not too bad either. If you take it for what it is, then you will not be disappointed; I never am.

I've stayed at the Grange Lodge numerous times over the years, and have to say that it's my favourite hotel on the island. I travel to Guernsey as often as I can, mainly for a bit of R&R, but have also had to go there on business too, and there have been times when there has been no availability at the Grange Lodge, so have had to stay at other hotels, but have still found myself heading there for bar meals in the evening!

Yes, it could do with a bit of an update decor wise, but it's friendly and homely and the breakfast is always good. But I have to say that one of my favourite things to do whilst in Guernsey (whether or not I'm staying at the hotel) is to head to the bar of the Grange Lodge, have a few beers, a chat with the locals and a meal at the bar, which is always excellent value for money. There is also a more formal restaurant should you prefer not to eat in the bar area.

The hotel is located at what's known locally as 'the top of the Grange', which basically means that it's at the top of the hill that overlooks St. Peter Port, so whilst it's an easy walk down to the town centre, harbour etc., the walk back up to the hotel can be a chore. But if you find that's an issue, it's just a short bus ride from the harbour, or a cheap taxi ride away.

The grounds of the hotel are very nice, and there's an outdoor pool to use, weather permitting. The Beau Sejour leisure centre is only a short walk away, should you find that the walk up the hill from Town is insufficient exercise for you!!

In short, the Grange Lodge is a great, comfortable hotel. It's no Hilton, but we are talking about Guernsey after all. Personally I can't wait for the next time that I'm able to pay it a visit!!
