If you like a cold English breakfast or an omelette with off veg then go there (NOT) Because the food is served undercook, cold or presentation is rubbish depending on the mood of the Chef don’t complain to the duty manager Simon as he isn’t interested and will tell you not to come back as this place isn’t suited for u considering it is suppose 4* or 4*+ discussing behaviour and attitude from him.

We were keen to eat at la Fregate during our long weekend on Guernsey and were pleased to get a table for dinner on the third attempt. It seemed odd as we arrived through the car park, and had to wander through the hotel to try and find the restaurant!!! However dinner started well with a wonderful view over the harbour. That was the best bit though; it went downhill from there...
Overall the food was pretty good but not outstanding, and the panna cotta was a little too gelatinous. However the service was very poor. The Maitre D seemed to overdo the aloofness and seemed somewhat arrogant. The other service was lacking and, when present, a bit chaotic. E.g. a waiter who had to chase the bread rolls around the basket to catch them! The wine and water were placed away from the table, but then refills were extremely sporadic. I had no wine for most of my main course and got increasingly bored of waiting - to the point where I walked across the dining room to get the bottle and refill our glasses. We weren't asked if the food was ok (even though generally it wasn't bad) and at the end of the meal we weren't offered coffee and chocolates (which came with the dinner menu we opted for, but we just got bored of waiting) and so we left without these - despite being charged for them. This was our most disappointing meal of our three days in Guernsey. Don't go here. There are much better places less than 5 minutes walk away. It is a shame, because it could have been great, but instead it was a massive disappointment.

We spent four days in Guernsey and stayed at La Fregate. A well positioned hotel that offers high end accommodation and splendid views of St Peters Port. The restaurant service was good for the evening meals, the food being Cooked, served and presented well. Breakfast however was a little problematic. The wine list was comprehensive. In all a good four days with visits to local attractions. If you have not been you are missing a treat.

The food for this year’s Mothers’ Day meal was absolutely delicious and fantastic value. We had a thoroughly lovely afternoon. I would say that they had maybe slightly overstretched themselves which reflected in fairly average service. We waited 30 minutes for the drinks we had ordered to make their way to our table. We ordered wine that came eventually but staff didn’t seem to understand that only myself and my husband were drinking wine. We played wine glass shuffling for a while and organised ourselves because it seemed to confuse the staff. I’m sure as the season progresses these things will be ironed out and it wouldn’t stop me from going back again because I can’t express how delicious the food is.
